Went with my grandad to get his season ticket on Monday.
The lady in the ticket office (only one position open and she said she's been asked to help out from a different department) said that paying by credit card would incur a £5 charge.
Is this normal? Is it allowed? Either way it's not a good way to encourage sales.

Must also add that she gave good customer service and so have everyone I've dealt with in ticket department (including phone and online) - note. I've never had to deal with Mandy but that's irrelevant now.

Yes, the £5 cc charge has been around for as long as I can remember.
The £5 charge was introduced, I think in 2010, because the bank that processes the club's credit card transactions imposed a much higher transaction fee on the club for season tickets due to the perceived risk of Charlton going bust in mid-season. Under the consumer credit legislation, the credit provider can be held responsible for unfulfilled supply (of matches).

The £5 fee (which like the legislation only applies over £100) did not cover Charlton's increased costs and was always waived online. The problem hadn't arisen at the time the prices were set that year and at one point there was a risk the club wouldn't be able to accept credit cards for STs at all.

Yeah. But what else is there to do in Dortmund? Visiting the stadium is the No.1 thing to do on Trip Advisor. It must be the German equivalent of Newcastle. (Although, in fairness to Newcastle there are four things that feature above visiting St James' Park.)

On the other hand, our club is somewhere where there is more stuff to do than you can shake a stick at. RBG, with all its attractions only features at No 34 on the Trip Adviser list. The highest football club is Arsenal at No 49.

If The Valley features at all, (I got bored checking) it comes lower down the list than the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.

I renewed last week by phone and was not charged a CC fee. Also, I believe CC fees should only cover the cost to the club and these are mostly the charge to the club by the bank which have been significantly reduced this year (max around 0.8 to 1%).

The plot thickens! Tbh it's not an interesting plot, kind of like Star Wars Episode 1.

They should not charge the credit card fee if you are a Valley Gold member as you cannot renew online, as it does not apply the £15 discount, I queried this with Mandy last year and she waived the fee.

Ah but have they got Andrew Crofts and Kevin Foley in midfield next season?

Well someone has bought my two prime front row seats at last. My resolve never wavered but the fact they've gone is quite cathartic.

Our two season tickets are 7 rows up, riiiiiight behind the goal. All the stay-aways are missing out. They won't get to show off their keeper skills in front of their petrified girlfriend three times a game.

'Right behind the goal' ?? Won't the new nets stop those shots ? If past performance is anything to go by you'd need a seat near the corner flag to show off your goalkeeping skills

Clever fellow Roland, Tom and I would probably have renewed but the current situation with a good manager complaining through the media about the state of our squad means ' no chance '. Retaining a useless CEO and talk of closing parts of the Stadium when they think means small unhappy attendances, and inevitable renewed protests. Saddest time ever during my 60 plus years as an Addick.

I actually think the opposite. My thoughts last year were that the size of the protests and the strength of feeling showed how many people still care deeply about this club. I fear the protests this season will be a shadow of what they were previously as many people will simply be doing other things with their Saturday afternoon. Lots of those people will come back when this owner shuffles off, but many won't. I believe the damage that this regime are doing to this club will be much more far reaching and will have much longer term consequences than a relegation and a few bad transfer windows.

7 rows up is prime position, I reckon. Anything just clearing the bar will come down around there. It's gonna be a fun season

As I've said previously, the charge to Charlton on transactions that fall within the remit of Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act (the credit card company is jointly and severally liable for any breach of contract or misrepresentation by the company) specifically increased, which is why the £5 was levied in the first place. It would not have covered the charge by the bank then. Obviously that's some time ago and I have no way of knowing what the current situation is (you'd think the club is less likely to go bust during a season, given the nature of the debt), but it wasn't a standard rate thing. It was after the bank threatened not to accept such credit card transactions involving Charlton at all.

Blow me down, some buggier has only gone and bought the seat I have sat in in the East Stand since the day it opened in 1994. Hope you are happy with yourself.

That's a shame, part of my thought train in renewing was fear of loosing my seat of 24 years. Looking online today there isn't 3 seats within about 50 yards of where I sit in the LN.

Of course who ever bought it had no way of knowing if it was vacant forever or just this season due to protest....... Anyone buying can only see what's free now.

Bought my match ticket for the Shrewsbury game today (can't go to Northampton match), and yes, someone has got their season ticket in my seat! No problem, I'll just move forward a row - plenty of space there. It does feel strange not having a season ticket, but there you go; it will save me money this season as I doubt I'll get to more than 16 or 17 home games...

Any of you wavering - make the decision! I feel such relief knowing that I haven't succumbed to RD's rape and pillaging of my football club.

of course, I'm not blaming anyone, except the regime, just a shame that my seat, and Golfie's next to me, have been 'ours' for 22 years without a break and now they have gone. Once the regime have gone we will be back, albeit in different seats by the look of it.

  • Still got that fear Large but my two are still there, £500 a pop so very unlikely they will get taken.

Very surprised by the number of season tickets bought in East Stand E block, way higher than I thought

Prompted me to look on-line at my old block. Seats still available, sitting there tempting me. The back twelve rows of my block, which by my reckoning consists of 318 seats, has only seven that have been taken. It's going to be mighty lonely.

Must be such a relief to know you could have paid £7.60 to watch the game instead of £20!

    Roland sends his thanks.

No lovey dovey stuff then you'd better keep 100% concentration especially as we'll be defending for most of the time. Otherwise them good looks could get spoiled .

If I was a billionaire I'd be tempted to buy up every remaining seat (all 20,000 or so) just to see how the club use the money.

Swallow it in RD's purse or invest in the team. More than likely the former.

But then if the £6m or so that would cost me was loose change to me, I'd be buying the club outright.

I had one going for £11.25

Hop over the aisle to sit with us in Row K, Large.

I've bagged ur old seats for the first 2 home games already so making it difficult for any prospective season ticket purchaser to request.

Maybe I should have done that earlier too, once sold for a game I wonder if it then shows as unavailable as a season ticket purchase? Hope you got a season ticket holder to help you out with your purchase.

    Indeed we did, Large.
