I agree but it depends on the player and the wages.WhenIwasLittleBoy said:
Some logic there. You would have been better selling the player at a reduced cost enabling the buying club to make up the saving on his wages.LargeAddick said:
wouldn't be at all surprised if in the next few days both had their contracts terminated with a nice settlement allowing them to go elsewhere on another decent contract and allow Roly to save money on unwanted salaries. The Red Robin said:
Why would he not want Tex here? He's easily our best CB.dickplumb said:Russell Slade doesn't want Ba and Texeira here, so I can't see them playing much.
Why give away a player that has a sell on value, and who knows if a player picks up an injury, he could come in over the coming weeks have a great 3 months and get a move in January.
Tex might attract interest but he is now 30 and had 4 years left on his deal. He has little incentive to take a pay cut to go elsewhere. Say he's on £10k pw that is £2m over the lifetime of the deal.
Charlton aren't likely to offer him that as a pay off but few other clubs abroad will offer his similar and clearly no one in the Championship did.
So he stays. We already have four players out on loan where we are fairly certain to be subsidising their wages. But you are right. If he does well we might be able to sell or loan him out in January or next summer. But he'll be 31 by then.
Ba, I was told, the club would have been happy to terminate his deal but maybe Ba wasn't and again why should he make himself unemployed with no offer of another contract on the table. He doesn't have a good track record in football and he'd most likely have to take a big pay cut and move to another country. All a risk for him.
And as I said before if we cancel their contract now they can't sign for another club in any case until January so they will stay put
This isn't unique to us. Other clubs have similar situations especially when they have had changes in management and each new boss wants their own types of players.
It's just that we've had a lot of changes and so have Watt, Igor, Cebellos, Sarr, Ba and Tex. Previously we had Reza, Polish Pete and Tucedean.
I think with Slade having more control we'll get less of this going forward but for now we are left with the consequences of previous mistakes.

Can anybody on here bring up a list of free agents.

I'd have Hoillett, Richardson and Gobern off that list, would cover both wings and central midfield.Henry Irving said:

I must have missed it when Tex made it very clear he wanted to leave the club, did he ask for a transfer? is he on the transfer list?.Matt_RolandOut said:Keeping Tex is bad news. I thought he was okay last year but nothing to amaze anyone. Sticking to Slade's policy as well... Tex made it very clear that he wants to leave so I have no idea why people are happy about keeping him. IF we could have offloaded him and Ba I think we would of been talking about some exciting new signings to really boost our promotions prospects. Instead, we are left with two foreigners who got us in this mess in the first place.
I also think Charlton were in a big mess before Tex arrived last season, I thought we looked better at the back after he arrived.
The one player I would like to see go and Covered End put it much better than me, Release Roger8 -
WENGER BLOCKED SANOGO MOVE
Arsene Wenger blocked a loan move from Leeds for striker Yaya Sanogo, according to The Sun.
Garry Monk was reportedly keen on taking the 23-year-old to Elland Road for the season but Wenger told the Championship club he wants to keep him at the Emirates.
Leeds dodged a bullet yesterday!!2 -

If he stays i do hope we actually play him. Considering we have 4 top quality CB's in Bauer Pearce Konsa and Tex it may be worth RS trying out a 532 formation with wingbacks to utilise at least 3 of these per game?Dazzler21 said:I'm telling you, no one will take on Teixeira's wages.
He'll stay.
That's why i was so disappointed with The THD sale,
he would have been idea for the left wing back role.1 -

I imagine Slade and Tex will have sat down and discussed his future.
The only way Tex will get a move in January (unless we pay him off which would be very expensive, and a hard decision to make for someone who was a success on the pitch) will be if he's playing regularly and well, so there is an incentive to put him in the team, and him to perform to his maximum.
On the other hand, that would be really harsh on the other CBs, if they feel Tex is only being played as a shop window for him.4 -
Did Tex make it clear? Post a link please?Matt_RolandOut said:
So, to confirm then.... you want a player to start games that doesn't care about the club whatsoever and made it clear he wants to leave? All this CARD and issues with the club is confusing.Greenie said:

Actually, at the meet the players event after the pre)season friendly, Jorge gave me the impression he was happy to stay and fight for his place.Greenie said:

If he was do keen to leave, he didn't show it against Welling or Orient (where he went off injured).
And if he was so keen to leave, why did RS take him on the Austrian trip?7 -
A little bit odd that we signed Pearce, if Slade was expecting Tex (and Bauer?) to stay though.East_Stand_Loopy said:

As it happened Tex and Lennon picked up injuries, and Roger effed off to the crowd, but without this we would have started the season with Tex and Lennon as our CBs!1 -

I think the nature of the board and owner in regards to smoke screens, being economical with the truth as well as outright lies make it hard to know exactly what's going on!3 -
Would be very easy for one of the reporters at the weekly press conference to ask if Slade would clarify the position re Tex.2

Understand what you are saying but logic goes out of the window when you are dealing with KM and RD and they have history of doing this already on numerous occasions. Anyway, as Henry Irving explained this can't now happen anyway.WhenIwasLittleBoy said:

Diarra
Massive loss. Was my favourite player at the club4 -
Yeah I'm also gutted. I was looking forward to seeing one last year from him.
Crofts or Diarra, Crofts or Diarra...
Hmmmm.3 -
Bolton seem to have done a good bit of transfer dealings in the last few days , I thought they were a basket case like us ?0
-
just seen the Diarra news so maybe Tex and Ba may yet follow suit.0
-
definitely won't happen with Tex, possibly Ba though. Be absolutely crazy if we do it with Ba, not everyones cup of tea but surely will get some game time given how light we are in CM.LargeAddick said:just seen the Diarra news so maybe Tex and Ba may yet follow suit.

Tex wont leave as he wont get the wage we are paying him anywhere else.0

I feel like the Lookman saga last night diverted from the fact that I think we've had a rather disappointing window in some areas. I'd argue our best signings are keeping Lookman, Tex, and Bauer.
Yes, we look very strong in defense but look at that midfield. Depending on how Wolf City gets on, there is just no one who can create in the center of the park. It makes me wonder how much Crofts and Foley are on, given that Slade had to fight for them. I don't know what is going to happen when we come up against packed defenses who don't give us time and space in the final third--actually we've already seen it at Bury and first half against Northampton.
It's now up to Slade to coach these players and get the most out of them. He must bring Ba and Tex back in. He's a coach, they're his players, it's his job to coach them. Getting something out of them would be a real coup. That said, his coaching and tactical abilities (particularly in a possession and attacking sense) are the part of Slade that most concern me.5 -

We have so many homesick players don't we. I would think Diarra has spent most of his career away from the bosom of his nearest and dearest. Sounds like a lot of old flannel to me to placate the plebs in this cost cutting exercise.church-lane said:
