Would love to know how far the Lookman deal got i.e.
- Did we even accept an offer - Did Lookman himself turn round and say no thanks?
I think the last one is important and should be leaked if so, all we ever hear about is when Players accept transfers and we think every single one of them is a mercenary yet at the same time there will be those like Louis Thompson who want to stay at their club yet fans are never aware of those scenarios
Admire your faith in people, but an 18 year old simple does not say "no thanks" to an extra 0 on the end of his salary and a two division jump.
What about Jack Butland when he turned down Chelsea a few years ago?
Keepers are a bit different though I think. If you're a kid going to a big team as a keeper...you pretty much know that you're not going to be playing.
Outfield players will know their chances will be limited but the their competition will be more likely to be injured. There will also be more positions available to an outfield player.
I would agree that IF there was an accepted offer there - it would be extremely unlikely that AL would turn it down.

Different circumstances with Butland already had a career established and a decent amount of 0's to his name.
I'm certain that the inability of the club to offload Texeira and Ba had major implications in not getting the additional central midfielder and winger that Slade wanted.
It's pretty obvious that Slade was expecting more incoming than the slightly odd signing of Ulvestad who although undoubtedly talented has no real track record to indicate how effective he might be and that in the position that we all including Slade know is going to be critical to success or failure this season.
We had rumours and comments that the club were prepared to spend good money and pay good wages now. The lack of two more signings do not indicate evidence of that and a desire for promotion to me.
The squad does look to be competative at this level and with the unexpected addition of Texeira and hopefully with Diarra and Kashi to come back for the run in I don't see any reason why the playoffs should not be achieved.
It will depend as much on Slades tactical ability as anything else. I must admit I'm as concerned about that aspect as much as anything else.
One glaringly obvious observation is the ludicrous planning that has given arise to the situation of having six centre backs on the books. A financial luxury that a league one club cannot afford. Johnson will not get near the first team again and quite honestly we might as well pay the disruptive waste of space off. I still don't think that Texeira will feature and will be slipped out the back door as soon as we can do it. What a waste.
So pleased that Lookman has remained a Charlton player. Will be very pleasing to watch a future premiership star for a few months longer.
Here goes: Tammy Abraham - Bristol City, Nathan Ake - Bournemouth, Bekanty Victorien Angban - Granada, Christian Atsu - Newcastle, Baba Rahman - Schalke, Lewis Baker - Vitesse Arnhem, Patrick Bamford - Burnley, Nathan Baxter - Metropolitan Police (until January), Mitchell Beeney - Crawley (until January), Jamal Blackman - Wycombe (until January), Jeremie Boga - Granada, Isaiah Brown - Rotherham, Andreas Christensen - Borussia Monchengladbach, Jake Clarke-Salter - Bristol Rovers, Charlie Colkett - Bristol Rovers, Dion Conroy - Aldershot (until January), Juan Cuadrado - Juventus (three-year loan), Cristian Cuevas - Sint-Truidense, Alex Davey - Crawley (until January), Matej Delac - Royal Excel Mouscron, Islam Feruz - Royal Excel Mouscron, Michael Hector - Eintracht Frankfurt, Jordan Houghton - Doncaster (until January), Tomas Kalas - Fulham, Kenedy - Watford, Alex Kiwomya - Crewe (until January), Matt Miazga - Vitesse Arnhem, Charly Musonda - Real Betis, Nathan - Vitesse Arnhem, Kenneth Omeruo - Alanyaspor, Kasey Palmer - Huddersfield, Danilo Pantic - Excelsior, Mario Pasalic - AC Milan, Lucas Piazon - Fulham (until January), Loic Remy - Crystal Palace, Jhoao Rodriguez - Independiente Sante Fe, Bertrand Traore - Ajax, Wallace - Gremio.
Chelsea have 38 players out on loan at the moment. A number which shows the farcical nature of modern football.
It also makes you wonder why we've never had any from Chelsea in recent years! Was Carlton Cole the last one?
** Edit, there is one Chelsea player Cristian Cuevas at Sint-Truidense!
And yet the EFL think the answer to England's problems is to allow U23 teams into the checkatrade trophy.
The real answer is to limit the number of U23 players each club can possess to say 25 (like their first team squads). That way the very cream would still end up there but they would not be able to simply hoover up the rest.
Finally they should introduce a wage cap for under U23's so as to remove the huge risk we have probably just seen with Diego Poyet that a young players drive/ambition and determination is reduced by the fact that at 19 they have signed a contract that will most likely see them financially stable for life. Further, allow payments above the cap for appearance fees in the first team, so meaning a player has a real choice to make of staying at a lower placed club for first team footy and a higher salary or going to a top club for top class facilities.
I'd take Poyet back in a heartbeat. Should be able to run a game in this league. Was poor last season but can't forget how good he was first time round.
No way!
Wouldn't sign a contract with us, thought the grass was greener elsewhere, left us and we got peanuts for him!
Came back last year and was shite, why on earth would we want him or need him?
Yeah I mean why would want to sign on a free our 13/14 championship player of the year winner in his first debut season at the age of 19??
No denying he was a great player in that season, but he should have stayed with us and learnt his trade.
Instead of that he went for the bright lights of West Ham faded into mediocrity, got loaned out several times and in the end couldn't even get in MK Dons first team!
He came to us last year was awful and was basically another total waste of money as he didn't play in the end.
So now you want him back, even on a free, once again to waste more of our wage budget!
Rather have Crofts all day long!
What is it with CL and wanting ex players back all the time?
Just a side note for anyone still confused, the English premiership ceased to exist a few years ago. Unless you are all referring to the one in Scotland, then as you were.
Other than early sold on the cheap departures I am happy with this window and the business we have done it. We always want more, but I would rather have Lookman than sold him and got a winger in on loan. I know nothing about our Norwegian new boy but Slade seems to have done ok so far with his buys, also Diarra and maybe even Kashi will be back soon to supplement the midfield.
Haven't had time to read through all the overnight posts, so forgive me if someone else has suggested this. I can't help thinking that the Lookman being sold rumours yesterday, were a smokescreen designed to make us grateful that he wasn't sold and to soften the blow that only one player was signed yesterday, when Russell had said he hoped for a couple.
That was suggested yesterday, and I felt that might well be true. I find it very hard to believe that RD/KM would turn down even £2.5m for a (very talented) youngster who hasn't (yet) played week in week out. However @Redhenry seems to have great sources so maybe that indeed happened.
Similarly, the thought of CAFC turning down over £1m for Fox seems ludicrous, but seems to be backed up by stories from Sheffield.
Either Charlton's huge expenditure on Pitch PR is paying off and we are all being hoodwinked by clever "leaks" to the press, or KM's transfer income target for this season has already been achieved and she is keeping other sales up her sleeve for next time round the transfer merry-go-round.
Or they really have changed tack in a major way - but I need to see tons more evidence over an extended period, in order to believe that.
Russell Slade doesn't want Ba and Texeira here, so I can't see them playing much.
Why would he not want Tex here? He's easily our best CB.
Tex has openly told RS and KM he wants to leave. Despite having offers he chose to stay because no-one would offer his 4 year contract duration and wages. He may well be fully committed to the cause but he'll have to prove it before he's considered for a match day squad.
Could it be possible that KM accepted a bid for Lookman and the real reason it didn't go through was that Slade said he may leave as a threat. As it would of been too late to look for a replacement. Wouldn't be surprised.

I hope not because if that's true we could have a very disaffected young player on our hand. I doubt it though.
Very happy with our squad as it stands Some good CBs and keeping Fox and Lookie a bonus, I have a hunch RS will pick up some free agents as well. The clubs actions during the window tell me that they want promotion, and with this squad it must now be realistic. Onwards and upwards. Come on you Redddddds!
I wouldn't be surprised if the club announce in a few weeks an upgraded contract for Lookman, maybe that is where the buy out clause comes from! Well played
My football rating of Lookman is separate from my transfer rating to the Premier League. There is so much money available to these clubs that his price tag ought to reflect that rather than what people think a player of his status, age or ability ought to be. If he was to go to Crystal Palace for example I would price him at 10 million plus add ons and sell one. To Manchester City maybe even more.

wouldn't be at all surprised if in the next few days both had their contracts terminated with a nice settlement allowing them to go elsewhere on another decent contract and allow Roly to save money on unwanted salaries.

I heard that this was true, and that we tried to cancel Ricky Holmes' contract as well but couldn't find it
Keeping Tex is bad news. I thought he was okay last year but nothing to amaze anyone. Sticking to Slade's policy as well... Tex made it very clear that he wants to leave so I have no idea why people are happy about keeping him. IF we could have offloaded him and Ba I think we would of been talking about some exciting new signings to really boost our promotions prospects. Instead, we are left with two foreigners who got us in this mess in the first place.

won't happen (unless it has happened already)
Players can only move as free agents if they were free agents in the last window.
This is to stop just what you suggested happening outside of the windows.

Which is why Poyet got his terminated before 11pm last night

Some logic there. You would have been better selling the player at a reduced cost enabling the buying club to make up the saving on his wages.
Why give away a player that has a sell on value, and who knows if a player picks up an injury, he could come in over the coming weeks have a great 3 months and get a move in January.

Yeah, fuck those foreigners eh?
Stating a fact.
Yes in your head. Tex was a plus last season.
So, to confirm then.... you want a player to start games that doesn't care about the club whatsoever and made it clear he wants to leave? All this CARD and issues with the club is confusing.
