Just been issued a ticket for parking outside my own home, going to appeal because why the hell not but doubt I'll be successful. Had one side of car up the kerb like a lot of people do round here, just to try reduce risk of being clipped by larger vehicles as it's a fairly narrow road. No common sense by these jobsworths though I realise that technically I'm in the wrong, it's just bloody frustrating.

Unless there is a by-law that says otherwise, kerbing your vehicle is not an offence, is it?

Check the end of the ticket to see if it is a wind-up ticket, there has been a few news stories of residents buying wind-up parking tickets to put on cars parked anti-socially.

You say a lot of other people park on the kerb, have they had parking tickets.

Mine was the only car there at the time, whether others have received them in the past I don't know but I've been parking that way for about 4 years with no issue until today.

And unfortunately it's not a wind up ticket!

Just looked it up and in certain places it is. Huh. If my local council decided to enforce this rule it would rake in tens of thousands of pounds per day.

Maybe if they did that they could afford to build some car parks!

I'm sure this isn't a hard and fast rule but generally you cannot park on the kerb in London, you can in the rest of the country
  • As a general rule - there is no parking on the kerb within the Mayor of London area - unless specifically signposted.

This is a "make room for prams and wheelchairs (etc) idea.

On the kerb will likely be deemed ok on appeal. Over the kerb is an encroachment into the pavement area. Had this myself when parked up on a really wide pavement on a narrow road. Really annoying. Applies to anywhere within the m25, or did, a few years ago.

What chance do you reckon I've got if I appeal this one?:

So my son is learning to drive. I'm insured on his car obviously. After dropping him at the station I drove to a local car park, paid for an hour on the Parking app and did what I needed to do.
2 days ago my son gets a parking fine for said date and time..
So I checked my app and there was the evidence of me purchasing an hours parking time at said car park on said date and time.

However, Being a bit of a dipstick I purchased the ticket for my car that was registered on the app and not his (I was in a rush!!)
If they check back through the records they will see the car I paid for never entered the car park, but my son's,who is also registered to my address did.

So what do we think? Waste of time??

Maybe worth a go.  This is what AI came up with:

Using a completely different saved car by mistake is usually classified as a major keying error under private parking guidelines. While a simple typo (like swapping an '0' for an 'O') is often canceled immediately, using a completely different registration means the parking company's automated systems couldn't match your payment at all.
However, because you did fully pay for the session, you still have a strong case to appeal and get the charge canceled or reduced.
    Step-by-Step Appeal Plan
    • Download the proof of payment: Go into your parking app, find your history, and download or screenshot the receipt for that specific session. It will show the date, the exact time, the location code, and the amount paid.
    • Prove ownership of both vehicles: Take a screenshot of the app's "Vehicle Management" page showing that both registration numbers are saved to your account. This proves it was a genuine, accidental click.
    • Draft your appeal: Submit the appeal through the parking operator's website (do not pay the charge first, as paying usually closes the case).
    • Use this template for your appeal text:

"I am appealing this Parking Charge Notice on the grounds that I was a genuine, paying customer. Due to an accidental slip on my parking app, I accidentally selected a different vehicle saved to my account rather than the one I was driving.I have attached proof of the parking session showing that the correct fee was paid for the full duration of my stay. I have also attached a screenshot of my app account showing both vehicles are registered to me, proving this was an honest mistake. Because the correct parking fee was paid, the landowner suffered zero financial loss. I request that this charge be canceled immediately."

You won't know unless you try. Me and the Mrs have both done this before and pretty certain both of us get let off once we appealed.

Took an elderly lady from Westerham to Lloyds in Orpington last week. I temporarily parked in the loading bay directly opposite and took her across into the bank. She then wanted me to wait with her until, thankfully, a member of staff came over and sat her down while she got dealt with.

I walked back out to my fully signed-up, wheelchair-accessible taxi (with all the appropriate stickers), only to find a pi$$ing ticket slapped on it.

Couldn't have been in the bank for any longer than five minutes. I'm pretty sure the warden must have seen me helping the lady across the road, given how quickly the ticket was issued. Two elderly ladies outside the coffee shop opposite even told me they'd tried explaining to the warden that I was assisting an elderly person, but he didn't give a toss. ✊️💦

    £70 if my appeal fails....

The traffic wardens in Orpington are a serious bunch of cnuts.
The only thing that stops me punching the wankers in the face is that I would almost certainly go to prison.
    Hopefully you win your appeal
