It's about 2 years ago that I took a colleague to his first ever football match. Despite having been in the UK for 5 years, some of which were spent studying at the Uni of Greenwich, he'd never seen a game.
On a dark Tuesday evening - both a bit pissed - we set off from Waterloo to The Valley. It was still the Duchatelet era, but we had what we were told was a long term manager - Peeters. We'd had a summer that bought in the likes of JBG and Vetokele. Things looked like the Belgians may not have been so bad.
Standing behind The East Stand, I had to explain to Sitaram that you weren't allowed to drink in the stands.. as he began walking back from the staircase. I'll never forget him mouthing off at me as if I made the rules... before he downed two pints.
90 minutes later we were leaving the ground and grabbing some cans from the off license to go back to Waterloo for another pint or two. He was excited, thanked me for the evening and began asking about away matches, evening matches, "meeting my friends and brother on a Saturday match" etc.
That was one of my favourite football matches. It's sad really, in other circumstances I'd have text him and we'd have been there tonight.
Looking at those photos and contrasting them to two years ago is heartbreaking. Whats more heartbreaking is surely I was precisely the kind of ambassador that Katrien keeps banging on about? The kind of ambassador that Target20K need? Or simply put, the kind of ambassador that we all were - simply genuine supporters?

I think its general knowledge that a fair percentage of our support are attending away games only, and will use that opportunity to protest. Me for one, as someone said earlier I would have thought nothing of going to this game with Chris Powell in charge, the current lot, no chance, I want them to win every game, I want them to go up but bollox to the owners.
Look at the crowd, look at the disconnection between the board and the supporters not hand picked to grace their presence.
This is a failing regime, T20K if you want to put bums on seats ask them to leave, amything less is justifying them.
And I am not hijacking the thread, I have patiently waited till half time to protest by posting so as not to upset anyone who just wants to follow the football

It would be interesting to see how big Scunny and Bury's grounds are, I presume they're not sitting in a 28,000 seater with it having a maximum of 8k in there.. when actually, counting begins at 6k.
There's a lot of reasons why the Scunny and Bury point is a bit stupid actually.7 -

stupid is a wee bit insulting old boy ((:>).. the point is that big grounds, big attendances etc. etc. do not a BIG club make .. what these outfits lack in 'size' is made up by ambition, spirit, careful management and ownership ..
