Port Vale v Charlton - Post Match Views

Another disappointing night with a late equaliser. Side just really isn't warming himself to people.

Grateful for thoughts, particularly from those who went.

  • Monsieur Slade - with this taking off our 3 best players when we are winning the game - you are really spoiling us.
What an utterly clueless twat he is.

Bad substitutions one minute before the goal.
Novak and Chicksen - for Holmes and Magennis !!

And as for Lennon - he is always in the match report somewhere, becoming a liability.

Keen to hear from those who were there.

From most of the games I have been to it's fairly obvious that we won't be going up. We are not going up with this Slade in charge. Simples.

2 points down the pan because of that disgrace of a so called manager. He needs to go ASAP. What the hell was those decisions today. Shocking of the highest order. Slade out.

Pinocchio & Ducktape only appoint useless managers to deflect a bit of criticism away from themselves.

Wasteful first half, should've been out of sight.

Where is Ajose? Has he shat on RS pillow?

Loan Lennon out. Too naive, too rash, needs to learn discipline and decision making more IMO. He plays well, then screws it up with a silly foul

Another point snatched form the jaws of victory. There's usually a draw specialist languishing in mid table in every division, looks like being us this season. Unable to press home our advantage when on top and then hampered by a manger too keen to defend what we have at the expense of any ambition to build on a lead. A combination for too many draws if ever I saw one.

Yeah, keep it clean you c***s
  • with AFKA's warning re language I am not capable of constructing a sentence about Charlton without expletives so will refrain

    0.001% Top two ......... 24.999% 3rd-6th ......... 54% 7th-12th ......... 20.75% 13th-20th ........ 0.25% relegation
  • Lennon and Johnson ahead of Tex. says it all. Slade has told us football decisions are his and praised KM enough times so this is on his head.

I said this before Slade was appointed. He's a nice guy but you know what happens to them....
    We won't finish bottom IMO.
We'll forever be mid table under Rus. He's beige.
And also a complete bottle job who is not in charge of a two bob club any more.
So frustrating that he threw it away. Vale breathed a collective sigh of relief when Holmes and Mag trotted off. What a terrible terrible substitution.
  • So frustrating, for the first time this season we were actually creating multiple chances and we didn't sit back.

Tonight proved to me that we have quite a few capable players and a different manager would get a lot more out of them. Obviously Slade is under supported and we don't have enough midfielders but Holmes for a left back, really?!

We ended the game with an attacking three of Hanlan (exciting but has even less experience than Lookman) Novak (a bit of a donkey bless him) and Chicksen (a f***ing left back).

All in all we did play well, far better than we did against Coventry in fact, but were let down by Slade's over cautious decision making.

What summed it up for me was when we one a corner right at the end. The players went into the box and nobody went to actually take it, they spent about 10 seconds looking puzzled as we didn't have a set piece taker left on the pitch! Jackson made Fox go and take it and nothing happened.
  • Best away atmosphere in a while too, Slade got a fair bit of stick at the end, "Russell Slade he ain't got a clue" etc etc.

    Embarrassing.
I bet Roland and KM are loving that our requested English manager is a total fuck up.
Richest owner in the club's history and we are a total shitshow.
Heading towards league two, an empty Valley, innocent fans getting beaten up for nothing, by security a former sandwich maker.
Wankers, I can't think of a better word.
Roland doesn't care, as if he watches every game- bollocks.
    You are a failure.

Roland, KM, No bollocks, Slade, Sue Parkes, the Morris dancing bellend, RM, security. Just fuck off.

We are definitely not going to League Two.

Sounds like we mostly played well and that Ulvestad really is a quality player at this level, but as everyone says, you can't make such negative substitutions, you just can't. Sadly for Slade, Novak just isn't good enough, but surely then better to just leave him off. And Botaka's injured? Leave Holmes on then. Sorry, but these were pathetic substitutions. You can't sacrifice the whole point of the team to protect a 1-0 lead. Effectively the changes meant we wouldn't score again. Vale had nothing to lose. Awful.

    At the game : -

How on earth did we only get a point from this game!

Only one team in it should have been out of sight before a dubious penalty gave Vale an undeserved point.

Good possession, good chances spurned but still comfortable until a double sub which cost us two points.

Our superiority in the first half was rewarded by a goal from Ulverstad after great work and cross by Holmes which saw us in front at the break 7's across the board score wise for the whole team.

Second half chances again created but somehow we failed to convert and one goal is never enough. With our best three players withdrawn from the action Vale were awarded a penalty for what seemed an innocuous challenge late in the game - Penalty - Rudd got a hand to it but it went into the roof if the net 1-1 to immediate chants ' Russell Slade you ain't got a clue'. The natives were very restless and he was getting plenty of stick at the final whistle.

Very good performances from Bauer, Lennon (edit: why spoil it by conceding a pen aaarrrgh!) Lookman and Holmes MOM. Ok performances from the rest. Not over impressed with Hanlan when he came on plenty of enthusiastic effort but raw and not yet ready IMO. We was robbed is an understatement.

So once again late substitutions...chicksen for Holmes? Really?!! Tactical mastermind parking the bus....
Ajose must have upset Brussels just like botaka seems to have done, although the latter does get 5 mins a game...
You're not at orient anymore...But yeah, great point Russ cheers

Slade's a David Brent like character. If I were at the BBC, I'd want to send the cameras down to watch this whole thing unwind. Cringe-inducing hilarity mixed with heart-renching sadness.

He who dares Brussel..wins,something you rarely do. He thinks he's a pound shop Mourinho. He thinks he's cleverer then is really is.
  • At the game, just got home.
The last half an hour of the first half was the best we have played this season. Good movement, passing and creating chances. Should have been out of site by half time. Stand out players were Ulvstadt and Maginess.
Sat deeper in the second half and had less of the ball, inviting Vale on, something that I particularly dislike and is becoming the norm.
Then Ulvstadt missed a glorious headed chance, then the penalty. Felt it might happen.
We must develop a more ruthless streak when on top and take more of our chances.
Corners and free kicks were woeful once again, and Vale's best attacks occurred when these failed and they attacked with our centre halves out of position.
Plenty of criticism of the subs on here and generally I agree. However Maginess was treated for a head wound and maybe his was justified. As for the other two I'm as mystified as everyone else.
I'm not as down as many posters as I did feel the team play and understanding was much better, and there appears to be a growing cohesion. Why Tex was not in the squad if Pierce was injured is strange.
Another two points dropped, partially through the team dropping deeper and difficult to understand subs, but also the inability to finish teams off when on top. These draws are killing us at the moment.
  • Just got home from first game of the season.

Felt we were a bit nervy for 20 minutes then took control of the game. We seemed to break up almost everything they tried with ease and went on to achieve attempt after attempt until half time. I assumed wrongly that Vale would come out in front of their fans and give it a go, but their charge never really happened. They soaked up attack after attack. I'd love to know how many attempts we had because it seemed to be well into double figures. They were a shambles and were there for the battering. Can see how Utd put 4 past them days ago and 4-0 tonight wouldn't have flattered us. Walking out I overheard many Vale saying that they were lucky. On tonight's showing they won the frigging lottery. Not been so pissed off walking away from a ground for along time. Sad thing is I was filled with hope and few of the 253 there would have thought we'd have let them back in, such was our commanding performance. Holmes was everywhere tonight and can't understand why the change came so close to the end. He was roasting them on a spit, such was his confidence and their inability to cope with his speed, skill and endurance. The penalty was almost out of nothing and didn't really seem a pressure situation. The ref seemed to take an age to make the decision and going down high to the centre it looked nearly saved. Slade got some stick at the end "You aint got a clue" was the very loud chants at full time. This is his team, with his game plan and it's not working. Results don't lie.

I assumed after the weekend protests that this would be rolled out again, but no. Not one "Roland Out" during the entire evening, but Katrien got a few mentions and an older woman in front of us was clearly upset by this and turned to face the masses and made it very clear that she did not feel attention of this sort against our CEO was acceptable, telling them to shut up. Confused.

Lots of entertainment. Positives plenty. Disappointment definitely, but on this performance it's only because we were so much better than the opposition.

    Just got back in.

I've never seen us miss so many sitters, was painful.

I think Slade got us playing some really decent football last night, very positive.
Shame we have so many players who cannot hit a barn door. Should have been a very comfortable win.
