I am seriously worried about the future of the human race reading some of the DM comments. Was just sat at my desk shaking my head.

So much good examples in all of this and something good has come from a very sad story.

Please don't get distracted by the DM comments and give them energy on here, taking this thread off at a tangent. Thanks
  • Now before this thread turns into the anti daily Mail thread let's remember there are plenty of other threads for that if you so wish.

A comments section does not take away the fact the DM reported on the story and people have reacted brilliantly in such a small space of time.
  • The Daily Mail can make us all proud by reporting on this remarkable effort to raise the money in less than 24 hours and................................................mispronounce cabbles name in the article

We've bigger fish to fry than DM posters

Plus, as above I've had an RIP on one of the donations and I'm barely mid 40's....

Done. Just to clarify though. Don't just giving take a percentage so she won't get all the £2,900 or have I got that wrong?

They do yes, but i'll cover the JustGiving costs.
Well done Rob7Lee for your efforts. I would just like to point out that whilst your original offer to cover the just giving fees is incredibly generous, I'm sure that now the amount has gone a decent amount over the original target and may go higher, that no one would begrudge you no longer sticking to that offer and taking the fees out of the amount raised.

It would be nice if this story was included in pre-match team talk.

All, as we've done so well I am going to close the page down on Saturday so we can distribute the funds to the funeral directors and to Beccy (you cannot withdraw with the page live/open). I'll then pay the bill etc and I should receive the funds myself 3-10 days later.

I understand some wanted to still contribute, possibly after this date, so if anyone would like to message me on here we can work something out either PayPal, bank transfer, brown envelope etc and get that to Beccy.

Hope that's ok with everyone, shout if not!

    Thanks again.

    All sounds fine to me.

Well done you and everyone else who helped.

    RIP Ian
  • Today my pride in Charlton has been restored.

Katy will, no doubt, thank the 98% for their swift and meaningful response in the next programme.
  • Would be great if we could get a minutes applause or something at the next home game?

I hope @Rob7Lee or @cabbles can let the Daily Mail know and remind the idiots commenting on the Mail articles that the stone pictured wasn't a grave stone.

@_nam11 was in touch with the reporter, might make sense for him to update him if he doesn't mind. Be good to feed it back up to the Liverpool echo as well
BBC contacted Becky, about going on air regarding it all. The reporter at DM asked for the link of the page.

I understand the Liverpool Echo has also requested the just giving page.

    Absolutely amazing.

I knew we'd get to the £2900, but to go to bed with it being at £500 and then log on at like 10am, to see it surpassing £2900 was a real eye opener.

Just goes to show, that we are all human, and willing to help others out if needed.

Hopefully Rich' releases something in the SLP, no doubt we will discuss on Thursdays Charlton Live, and will keep you in the loop if I hear back from Daily Mail and/or Liverpool Echo.

    Incredible.
