Feeling very proud of Charlton. It's the fans that make the club, let nobody forget that

I will discuss with Beccy. Obviously this is the funeral bill (she had managed to pay £600 so owes £2899, the funeral director has sent me the invoice now) however she has suffered other costs due to distances and the like so her overdraft is more than a bit 'used' shall we say and believe she's been living in unheated accommodation (due to costs) and on beans and rice!.

I don't think I can extract the money until the page closes, and people have asked we leave it open for a while, i'm happy to pay the bill and sort out after.

Well done everyone, heart warming to say the least, Beccy wants to hug you all, she's hoping to get to a home game soon so I will let everyone know as I'm sure she'd like to meet a number of you. her fathers ashes will also be scattered at the Valley at some point.

£3,919 by 145 people as at 20.28 tonight.

As others have said, I'm happy for Beccy to use the excess as she sees fit.

If you need any help settling the bill before the page closes, let me know.
  • Nobody should pay any heed to comments on the daily fail's web stories. The daily fail is a despicable tawdry rag to start with, its web presence is mostly soft porn and neo-con bigotry clickbait. Quite what kind of organism feels the need and has the time to type that kind of bile defies belief. Their "views" certainly aren't worthy of consideration.
The fact that a few decent people can club together to help out a fellow citizen through something as tenuous and ephemeral as a shared affection for a football club is the encouraging reminder that the daily fail and its ilk don't amount to anything and never will while the likes of Rob7Lee and Cabbles do what they do.
Don't reckon there's a chance in hell the DM will run this story, even if someone wrote it up and sent it to them complete.

    Most eloquently put, young Thundercock.
  • RIP Ian.

Done. Just to clarify though. Don't just giving take a percentage so she won't get all the £2,900 or have I got that wrong?

They do yes, but i'll cover the JustGiving costs.
Well done Rob7Lee for your efforts. I would just like to point out that whilst your original offer to cover the just giving fees is incredibly generous, I'm sure that now the amount has gone a decent amount over the original target and may go higher, that no one would begrudge you no longer sticking to that offer and taking the fees out of the amount raised.
    Agreed.
  • Well done everyone you are amazing people

  • Just given my donation which has now taken it to £4,000. This is pretty amazing and just goes to show what an amazing group of people there are on this site. Makes me feel very proud to be part of the CL family.

Did a survey after donating for a £100 Amazon voucher. If I win I'd like to donate that as well.
    Of course I won't win though. :-(

All, thank you for continuing to donate, still a few more days left if you haven't already.

Also to let everyone know, I've just got off the phone to the Funeral Directors and have settled the £2,899 bill courtesy of you all, Beccy is one happy lady!!

Meaning currently we have £1,176 still to go to Beccy which will really get her back on track. Can we make it £1250?

    Thanks again everyone.

its a very fair reflection of what we supporters are capable of if a certain belgian did ever leave us high and dry,i dont mean that in the financial sense, but my suspicion is that the belgians end game will probably result in us picking up the pieces

£4,900 would be fantastic as that also pays off the overdraft from the flowers and some travels between Liverpool, Wales & Poole, but people have been very generous already and the original target has been smashed! It's open for a couple of more days yet so still a chance to donate if you wish.

Unbelievable, how did a Leicester fan find it!?!
  • Well done with this. I saw the headline for the article but didn't read the article at the time, so didn't realsied he ws one fo ours. Genuinely proud of our supporters and a reminder of what our club is really about
  • Out of curiosity I did a google search to see if there had been any further media pickup on the story and there also seems to be a go fund me account set up last November by a friend to pay towards funding the funeral costs for Ian 'Charlton' Oxley and where the only donation (£20) seems to have happened just 2 days ago. Any well wishers not familiar with CharltonLife and looking to chip in towards the costs seems to have the choice of two funds at the moment.

Interesting, I guess someone picked up on it from the press.

It's a half page spread in the SLP today, page 8. Mentions CL.

Perhaps worth keeping the donation page open for another week in light of this.
