305-4 off 89 at close. Undefeated 5th wicket partnership of 174.
Malan 110* (174)
Bairstow 75* (149)
England's day without a doubt. The Aussies will come back fighting tomorrow morning but, if these two can see out the first hour, then we could be 500-8 declared at tea to give us a session at their batsmen.1 -
He got a top edge for six doing so but, generally speaking, there have been no "happy hookers" today and that decision making has made a big difference.The_President said:I havnt seen any play, but what I've gathered from Cricinfo, Malan has ducked most of the short stuff today?

Absolutely brilliant batting from Malan and Bairstow. That's a huge partnership when we desperately needed one.3
-
Well done Malan on his maiden Test century. Also to Bairstow for a great partnership. They showed some grit and stick ability at last.1
-
Great fight back from Malan and Bairstow. The Englishman in me fully expects both to go within the first 15 minutes tomorrow and we post less than 350!

Well done Dawid and Jonny, at last we have a contest out there,0
-
Whisper it but the Aussies are now clear outsiders for this Test. Based on current Betfair odds, the percentages for the three results are:
Australia 23%
England 32%
Draw 45%2 -
At last, maybe Mo can have something to bowl at, and turn that 2-198 to 12-300 ?1
-
Terrific partnership from Malan/Bairstow, really pleasing to see some fight. Now we've sorted the batting, the problem looks like being getting 20 aussie wickets on what looks like a road.2

Pitch won't be the greatest but if he's gonna produce anything this series then scoreboard pressure will be a huge help to him.The_President said:At last, maybe Mo can have something to bowl at, and turn that 2-198 to 12-300 ?

Assuming Stokes comes back at some point (but probably not this series), whilst it absolutely helps the balance of our side, assuming Vince is the one dropped (and we don't leave Cook out too), it actually creates a bit of a problem.
Presumably Malan will go up to 3 (assuming that Root won't do) but that will mean that the top 3 are all left handers, 5 of the top 7 will be so inclined and we'd have 7 of them in the side - would have to be some sort of record!0 -
As already mentioned, these two must knuckle down and fight like hell to see out the first hour tomorrow and see off this new ball, even if they only score a handful in the process.1

I remember there was a time a few seasons ago, when we had al situation where all our bowlers were right handed bowlers but left handed batters, I thinl it was...Jimmy,Broad,Stokes,Ali and That Kent spinnerAddick Addict said:Assuming Stokes comes back at some point (but probably not this series), whilst it absolutely helps the balance of our side, assuming Vince is the one dropped (and we don't leave Cook out too), it actually creates a bit of a problem.

I think you meant to say "that Kent Legend James Tredwell"The_President said:

Now you mention it, get Tredwell on the plane to Australia.2

As Stoneman seems to have convinced that he can score runs at Test level, then Cook may well come under pressure, so, for next season, maybe the line up will be..Addick Addict said:Assuming Stokes comes back at some point (but probably not this series), whilst it absolutely helps the balance of our side, assuming Vince is the one dropped (and we don't leave Cook out too), it actually creates a bit of a problem.

Malan is now the leading run scorer in the series - 22 runs ahead of Marsh in second place.4

Bairstow wants to carry on with the gloves so we will probably be able to have another spinner at 9, who knows maybe even Rashy!!!The_President said:

Maybe time for Sam Curran to shine - we need a left hooker.0

Brilliant day, well played Malan and Bairstow.
As much as I love the bloke, and have defended him against all the naysayers over the last few years, maybe this is a series too far for Cook.0 -
I like that line up.The_President said:

I am going to revise my series prediction from 5-0 to 4-08

Won't be long before you'll be saying 3-2 to England...........PaddyP17 said:I am going to revise my series prediction from 5-0 to 4-0
