Funnily enough, as of yesterday, I live a 30 second walk from St Johns station. Just got home and there are three fire engines, numerous ambulances and a load of other emergency response vehicles all lined up outside the station. Was very concerned that something tragic had happened, although obviously I'm sure the poor folk stuck on the trains are having a thoroughly miserable time. Meanwhile, thanks to a combination of black magic and voodoo, the DLR is still running as normal about 300 metres from here.clb74 said:

It really is about time they invested some proper money in introducing whatever they've got in Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Canada etc which enables the trains to keep running when the weather takes a then for the worse.

I once again got the Jubilee to North Greenwich and then a bus. It was pretty decent.
I feel so bad for the people stuck on those packed trains for that length of time. I am sure we have all been squashed on a packed rush hour trains before, and it's horrible. I start to get very uncomfortable if the train is even 10 minutes late in those conditions.
Problem is I cant see how the issue will ever be solved. Doubt the rail companies will bother investing any time or money into fixing it.4 -

#LEWISHAM UPDATE: Power has now been restored to the 17:10 Charing Cross to Tunbridge Wells which has been delayed at New Cross. The train WILL be going through to Tunbridge Wells1 -

I would be in all sorts of bother if i was on that train. After 10’mins of train not moving I would start getting stomach cramps and my arse would be on red alert, even if been loo 5 mins before getting on the train.
I would have been first out of those doors.
Were the toilets not working ?

Got an 89 to Welling from Shooters Hill Police Station just after 8 and it was absolutely packed. Most were claiming 2-3 hour journeys from Charing Cross.

A lot of the newer trains on southeastern don't have toilets as according to them its a short enough journey that they are not needed .... what a load of B/SAddick Addict said:

problems started at lewisham - train tried to move off but stalled - tried again and again moving just about 20 yards at a time, same - a couple more goes and you would think the driver would call it a day knowing we could all get off but no he repeated it about 30 times moving a few hundred yards up the line - we then stopped whilst somebody brushed the rail, then a power off, then an incident in train behind, then an engineer to clear the rail, then a pulled chord then another then we were to evacuate, then we weren't, umpteen announcements then told train behind had loads jumping off so everybody decided we should all get off so we did - hundreds walking down the side - at least those who could did as a big jump off and very uneven and icy - firemen etc helping once got to station. a shambles, compounded by the early pull chorders but can't understand why the driver kept trying to start the train and taking us away from the station?1

Get to Charing Cross at 5 stand there for an hour as a train was showing then to be told that the next dartford service would be there around 730 so continued to wait half hour later we were told no more trains and make other arrangements, so tube to North Greenwich then a 486 and a half hour walk other end, office to home on a usual day 1hr 40 mins yesterday 5hr 20 mins.0 -

They effectively held people hostage on the trains with no access to toilets or water.
The power was also turned off to allow National Rail crews on tracks and not as a result of the passengers bid for freedom but they don’t seem to want to acknowledge that.
So glad I get Central Line Home or can get train to romford if tube is down.6 -

Yesterday evening was standard South Eastern on a larger scale than usual. The inability to run trains properly is one thing, for which they share the blame with Network Rail and the government for allowing these companies to take our money without reinvesting any of it.
The lack of communication is totally unacceptable. They quite happily sit stationary outside London Bridge or wherever for ten minutes or so every day of the week without a word of explanation or apology. Yesterday, from what I've read, they were far, far too show in providing any information about what was going on, what they were doing about it, when they'd be moving again. In those circumstances, I don't think you can attach any blame to people who take matters into their own hands and jump off. Why wouldn't you, when you're not receiving any assurances that you won't still be sitting there three or four hours down the line.
Locked toilets as well. Wtf?! You've been publishing all week on Twitter that there's gonna be delays, cancellations and disruption, in those circumstances anyone with half a brain would check stuff like that was in full working order.

Delay repay is also allowed to be used for journeys you would have made but we're unable to make due to delays/cancellations. I am well within my consumer rights to claim for days when I chose to work from home because I knew the disruption would be awful.
If you don't travel at all you need to phone for a refund on your ticket in the normal way (even if there were no trains at all).
The guys at my local station admitted they didn't know what to do when I asked about this but this was confirmed to me on the telephone by South Western Railways.

If you wasn't directly involved last night you should read this Evening Standard report. Another time it could be you. The incompetence is truly criminal and they get away with it. Thankful I used the DLR last night but via Lewisham is my usual route.clive said:2 -
