Sorry I must have misinterpreted what you were saying - it's a bit hard to keep up with what the reason is people think we should not rest players. Some are saying winning momentum, others are saying because we should want to win the group - seems like winning the group could be making our route to the final as difficult as possible but each to their own.The Red Robin said:
Not quite what I said is it? England have something to play for, Croatia don't.Manicmania said:
So winning momentum only counts for us but not for Croatia? The Red Robin said:
Difference there being Croatia are three points ahead of Nigeria and four points ahead of Argentina and have beaten both of them, so will win the group regardless.Chris_from_Sidcup said:Croatian press named the expected lineup for tonight and they're making 10 changes from the Argentina game. Perisic the only one keeping his place.

Twice the test of Tunisia and Panama. Plus we won't control the game, so shape etc come into play.Manicmania said:
if Lukaku, Hazard, De Bruyne and possibly even Mertins don't start will it be THAT much of a test? Batsuyai and Fellani leading the line doesn't exactly strike fear in the heart lolValleyGary said:Don't care what he changes as long as the defence and keeper stays in place. Let them have a proper test against Belgium.

I read before the tournament its because our chosen ref was Mark Clatenburg but he left England FA to go to Saudi Arabia and as all refs had already been chosen for the world cup and was halfway through their training that we couldn't replace him for another.JessieAddick said:It's strange that there are no English refs in this WC.

Realistically they're going to need an Argentina 1-0 win yet be interesting to see how Iceland do today
Iceland beat Croatia 1-0 the last time they played each other which was in the same Qualification Group for this World Cup and so meant that it was Croatia who had to go down the Play-Off Route
Of course the fact that Gudmundsson is now injured is probably a big blow as they wont have his crossing ability now0 -
I've decided Brazil are going to win the competition on the basis of their dodgy result against Switzerland in their first game, just like Spain had in 2010.1
-
As much as I'd prefer England to finish second, I'd also like to see how we shape up against Belgium but not to the risk of players being knackered for the knockout rounds. Tough decision for Southgate.4

Walker and RLC are on yellows so I'm sure they won't play for a start2
-
Unless he plans to use RLC in the latter rounds, but not in the round of 16, so could be useful therefore for him to get a yellow now and the ban out of the way. Probably a long shot, but a possibility never-the-less.killerandflash said:Walker and RLC are on yellows so I'm sure they won't play for a start

denmark and nigeria win today and ill be delighted, with roy keane on bollocks to giving people and opportunity to play for the sake of it. would rest the players on bookings and that's it.2
-
Yellow cards do get wiped at the quarter finals stage though so it would only be the last 16 game to get through without a second yellow.0

Ah, fair enough, then zero point in risking RLC, just play Ali, Delph or RashfordManicmania said:Yellow cards do get wiped at the quarter finals stage though so it would only be the last 16 game to get through without a second yellow.

Might be a good game for Danny Rose to get some fitness back too as he looked well off the pace on Sunday. Dier and/or Delph may get a game and I'd expect Kane to be rested for Vardy or Rashford.0

Ah yes Roy Keane. The man for whom playing in the world cup meant so much.palarsehater said:denmark and nigeria win today and ill be delighted, with roy keane on bollocks to giving people and opportunity to play for the sake of it. would rest the players on bookings and that's it.

No room for loyalty and playing players for the sake of it. They understand we are there to win the World Cup - not give everybody a go. Momentum is very important - the only players to rest in the starting line up would be those carrying knocks - by all means make subs in the second half but don't treat the Belgiulm game as anything other than one we have to win! Winning is a habit!3

Looks like France are following suit with the other already qualified teams with 6 changes today.0

Hard to know what's a reserve side with France anyway. Their squad is so strong.Manicmania said:Looks like France are following suit with the other already qualified teams with 6 changes today.

Didn't think it matter whether a player is in control of the ball or not....what was Lawro on about there?ForeverAddickted said:Yeah took out his back leg unfortunately
Know Lawrenson is saying he isnt in control of the ball yet this isnt American Football where players can be tackled without having the ball1 -
Yeah I don't think Dechamps even knows his best 11 - be interesting to see how things change without Pogba in the middle.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

I do think this shows that there must be at least a percieved advantage to utilising the squad if the opportunity presents itself, as evidenced by literally every already qualified team resting players for match 3. Suppose we will see how the likes of Spain, Portugal and Brazil who don't have the option cope in the latter stages as compared to France/Belgium/Uruguay who did.0 -
France have been uninspiring so far anyway, their reserves might play better!0

Not between Australia and Peru (0-2)0

It surprises me as you'd think that Denmark would want to avoid Croatia0
