  • The D on the edge on the box was originally introduced as a tribute to Kaiser Willem who was the first foreign dignitary to attend the FA cup final in 1901.

    The D stands for 'Deutschland'
    What?!

Surely it's just to mark out the ten yards from the penalty spot?
    Nein
Hmmm.  Not convinced by that one.

Plymouth won the 3rd division as champions in 1930 to division 2. It was calculated at that time the players would have to travel 25000 miles in the course of the season.
Areoplane travel was considered, but the authorities turned down their request as it was considered too dangerous.
They finished runner-up six seasons running from 1921-7, when only the champions went up. Talk about groundhog day!

Did that not happen to England also in the 1982 world cup.

I played on Stirling Albion's old ground Annfield in the mid 80's..

In the day it belonged to the council and you could hire the pitch, facilities, floodlights for £11 an hour. It had an artificial pitch. We used to play inter department games there.

  • Isaak Hayik has set the world record by playing as a goalkeeper in a professional football match in Israel.
The record is the fact that Isaak is 74 years old ! This game took place yesterday and despite conceding 5 goals in a 5-1 defeat, he kept the score down with some good saves.
His 29 year old girlfriend said she wasn't surprised he lasted the full 90 minutes.

Must be something in the Oranges.

  • Steve Walford has the hat trick of being selected for the worse  XI for Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham, he only made sub for Norwich and West Brom his other club said no comment.

If you search Wikipedia for "9-11" or "11-9", you're redirected to the page on the September 11th attacks.  If you search for "7-7" it takes you to the page for the London Bombings.  Such are the iconic status of the numbers 9-11 and 7-7.

"7-1" takes you straight to the page for the 2014 World Cup match between Brazil and Germany.
Bit rubbish that 4-4 doesnt take you to the right page!!
But we are fourth in the list when you search for 7-6.
