The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

Er yes quite... if I've put my foot in it someone's going to have to explain to me. I just saw all the off topic Chinese jokes, PC gone mad etc. stuff and deemed this thread to be spiraling out of control. If there's another connotation, it wasn't what I meant.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:Calm down everyone ffs there's no way he meant it in that way.
I saw it and never made the connection and loled it.
Bad coincidence that's all I'm sure.

Paddy is half Chinese. I have insider knowledge of that.
He isn't much of a cook, does not own a take away, looks like himself, and has a great sense of humour.
Those on here who persist in using racial stereotypes and bleat that others who object have a sense of humour by-pass, cause offence and contribute to the persistence of racism in society.
However it continues on a regular basis, so I conclude they don't give a damn.
Go up to Naby Sarr and tell him because he is black he must have a natural sense of rhythm yet be a crap swimmer...if you dare. I'll hold your coat.

Is this a genuine piece of news you are sharing?JamesSeed said:The Aussies have reduced their price. They’re now willing to take the club off Roland’s hands for £30m.
So many comments unrelated to takeover now I am unsure what's intended as a joke and what's news.
If genuine the offer of 30m has reduced from what sum and inclusive of directors loans or not?0 -
Fook me, that's Roland's tactics.JamesSeed said:The Aussies have reduced their price. They’re now willing to take the club off Roland’s hands for £30m.
Make an offer, if it's not accepted, reduce the offer.
These clowns would be great at an auction.2 -
Anyway, as they are still trying to raise money 2 years down the line, it doesn't matter what the price is.JamesSeed said:The Aussies have reduced their price. They’re now willing to take the club off Roland’s hands for £30m.4 -
The link between Dalman and Sala's plane crash? Appreciate you didn't mean it but rather obvious to me.Exiled_Addick said:

Or maybe their view is the longer RD dicks around the less chance they have of putting a Championship squad together to stay up so the value reduces. Seems sound business sense to me.Covered End said:

- Beardface, in responding to "what's the sample size", referring to Chinese owners of UK football clubs previously, saying "1.4bn".
VERDICT: factual (population reference), amusing to some, generally irreverent. Absolutely no stereotyping. I didn't find it funny, but nor did I find it offensive, so no lol.
- soapy_jones "I think it is time for Chinese jokes..."VERDICT: No it isn't because we all know where this is going.
- soapboxsam with "I did hear a whisper..."
VERDICT: Chinese whispers is a game played mainly by children, referring to rumours and such. Quite appropriate for the takeover thread. Some might construe the base etymology - language/cultural barriers - as a little offensive, but not me. Clever. I didn't lol it though.
- CH4RLTON with "I know who the backer is - Win One Soon".
VERDICT: straight from the "ling long ching chong" school of "ooh their language is all funny noises". Offensive. Bugger that.
- ForeverAddickted with "or it could be Fookin Any Un".VERDICT: see above. Offensive. Bugger that.
- Johnnysummers5 with "this could become the takeaway thread".
VERDICT: HAHAHAHA YEAH SO FUNNY WE ALL OWN TAKEAWAYS ISN'T THAT WHAT THE CHINESE ARE IN THIS COUNTRY FOR. That's basically what it fucking is. My brother, at a university open day, was one asked - with no hint of irony - "so what takeaway do your parents own"? Yeah it's never funny and always reductive.
- Dave2l saying something about Zheng Zhi.
VERDICT: no idea what he meant but it doesn't look offensive? Maybe it's a whoosh for me. Whatever.
- soapy_jones with "that's my Chinese man dentist joke back in the can".
VERDICT: Joking about the jokes at best; "Oh no, I can't be casually racist" at worst. I dunno. Either way, I've heard it all before. It's a shit joke and is invariably accompanied by a crude accent when told in person.
- captainbob with "1975, Chinese jokes are banned".
VERDICT: Yeah this is pretty funny. Combines Happy Valley and his fact of the year for each page; Chinese governmental oppression (which is something I strongly dislike and am uncomfortable with); and is a good observation on Henry's post. Fair play.
- Mal with "should take it all on the Chin".
VERDICT: offensively unfunny, but more of a terrible pun than anything racially stereotypical or anything.
- The Red Robin, responding to Seth's comment about takeaways with "you can dine in at some [Chinese restaurants] too".
VERDICT: Oh good, more mileage out of the Chinese and catering. NB I know TRR is generally a decent poster and all, and I'm not giving a "pass" or anything, but this was probably more failed and misguided etc
- Arry Addick (you) with "these all look the same to me".
VERDICT: All the Chinese look the same is such a well-known racial stereotype. Grow up.39 -
I'd like to apologise for my part in derailing the thread, but I'm always going to call this sort of thing out when I see it.

Fair play Paddy, for having the patience to go through all that lot.1

It's an escape clause...4 -
I'm sure he hadn't seen those posts @Weegie Addick amongst all the jokes which he was pointing at and even if he had didn't register them in the context of the gif.Weegie Addick said:

Really not Exiled's style to make fun out of something like that.

I appreciate from his reaction that he didn't mean it. If you read the thread and don't just skim for jokes/ puns, it was pretty obvious, though.1

I envy anyone with enough free time to read every post on this thread. I've only got maybe 50 years left on this earth, life is way too short.Weegie Addick said:I appreciate from his reaction that he didn't mean it. Exiled posted the gif of the plane spinning out of control.ValleyGary said:What have I missed?
I believe it was a coincidence that it appeared on the same day that more info came about the Sala situation and people on here started to discuss if Dalman was implicated.0 -
Nothing much, just some casual racism and the Aussies lowering their offer despite RD already saying it's not enoughValleyGary said:What have I missed?0 -
Plus that stuff too yeah.0

30m and they will cover the director loans so effectively the offer is 37m?JamesSeed said:The Aussies have reduced their price. They’re now willing to take the club off Roland’s hands for £30m.
Or 30m and Roland has to cover them so effectively the offer is 23m?
1st one might have a chance, 2nd one will surely get laughed at.2 -
Time to get back on to the takeover folks. I’m sure we can all agree on that!! Any more snippets anyone?1

Nice to see so many of our posters are stuck in the 1970s - you can't beat comedy based around dated racial stereotypes. Some classic stuff on here and its as funny today as it was forty years ago.

Aussies lowering what they’ll accept, in order to get the sale through. They were asking for 33m, now 30m.sam3110 said:
