I didn’t know anything about last nights hassle on southeastern but I was late getting away from work tonight, it was a nice surprise and gesture from the rail company to hand out £3 costa vouchers for last nights inconvenience.
I had a couple off them on behalf of you people who were late home yesterday.1 -

Fair enough that they've given advance warning but I don't really understand why work at Barnehurst means closing Bexleyheath, Welling, Falconwood, Eltham and Kidbrooke? Could they not run trains as far as Bexleyheath?

Yes they would have to run to at least Slade Green area to turn round, which means running through Barnehurst.MrOneLung said:

Surely it would be possible to put points in (or whatever) somewhere between Bexleyheath and Welling to enable trains to switch from the up to the down line and cause significantly less disruption than closing the whole bloody line for 9 days.

Gone are the days of a set of points outside each stations. Less maintenance.0

As well as ripping up the track and building the points you've got to install signals and lay cabling back to the control box. Then reprogram and test all the computers and system controls.Rizzo said:

Is there not a station upstream from Barnehurst that has sidings just outside? Half a lifetime ago Network SouthEast (or whatever the brand was) ran a sort of shuttle service between Hither Green and Crayford, through a bank holiday or Easter weekend, one train, both ways up and down one side, no need for points & shunting (and no rail replacement bus) cos of major maintenance works somewhere crucial. I had to work throughout near LB, living at the time right near Crayford station. It was effing awful and the robbing shites already had my money for a 7 day ticket, no staff ever at station, natch. No advance warning at all, turned up first affected morning, train standing at platform, ramjam full waiting for a green light. Token explanation in borderline illegible chalk scrawl on a black board propped against a lamppost rapidly washing away in the relentless bank holiday drizzle. Coming home even worse. The "scheduled" departure time from HG wasn't linked to the times any trains arrived into HG from London on any of the other routes. Couple of times legged it over the footbridge to see empty train trundling off eastwards, necessitating a 40+ minute wait for the self same shitbox to rattle back. BR-NSE's customer service policy makers must have TUPE'ed over through all the various franchise TOC criminal cash sponge parasites ever since and are still hoovering up the overtime as they plot new ways to figuratively anally violate the optionless commuter.2 - Sponsored links:

If Delay repay was 15 mins when I travelled on Southeastern I would have been able to claim at least 6 times a week. I was getting 1 a week for 30 mins.
Always frustrated me how you were either 29 mins late or about 45. Its almost like they prioritised trains that they could avoid paying delay repay on to the detriment of those that had already missed the target.4
