@PragueAddick
Re your “dark thought”. What keeps me away from too much concern about something iffy is the involvement of Tahnoon Nimer. He is so high profile in the business world of UEA and worldwide and close ally of the Sheikh that it would be madness for him to be involved in anything in the slightest way dodgy. We have had knowledgeable post by lifers that are familiar with the region that suggest that being honourable and in high standing are fundamental to the way the UAE conducts itself. If there is a problem with the EFL my guess it’s to do with the source of the money. I doubt TN is either wealthy enough or daft enough to commit £100 million of his own money to a project in football.11 -
perhaps ESI have been told to distance themselves from the man city connection and they are shuffling things about accordingly0
-
@ShootersHillGuru I guess that is true, if we are all sure of Mr Nimer’s status as you describe.
One thing that makes me uneasy is that both The Rat and Southall have in some way been involved with third party players ownership in the past. Southall worked for the “pioneer” of that lark. Having said that, i saw a rather obscure interview with Southall that was posted on a Bolton forum, wherein he seemed to be rejecting his entire time as an agent, and had moved on. Talked about too many people setting themselves up as agents to make a quick buck, and too much corruption in the business. Music to my ears, that was, of course.
ok I will try not to have any more dark thoughts for now...1 -

Would imagine that the EFL are almost as anxious to rid themselves of the idiocy of RD as we are, so will work towards that outcome.1

@harveys_gardenerThe EFL responded to Duchatelet's statement, saying it hoped to conclude the matter "within an appropriate and reasonable timeframe".
"The EFL has worked with the club, the current ownership and prospective new owners to ensure any change of control is achieved as quickly as is practically possible," a statement added.
"These situations never follow a set format, are unique in nature and the EFL is reliant on the quality of information supplied as part of any submissions.
"The League is committed to applying its regulations and ensuring the appropriate levels of due diligence are undertaken on any individuals wishing to become involved at the club.
"Discussions remain ongoing."
I have a rather dark thought, based on @Airman Brown suggestion that the latest RD statement might have been prepared with ESI PR help. If that is the case it raises the spectre that RD and ESI might be happy with, but which the EFL is not. And that in turn has the unhappy implication that the EFL might be trying to protect the club, and us, from something a bit iffy.
but like I said, just my dark thought. Overall though, I am reluctant to get on the EFL back, because I can’t see any reason at all why they would treat our case more strictly, or with less application, than anything else they’ve had to deal with. And I do say that as someone who has been to their office and met them (albeit Harvey in charge that day)0 -
Dread to think what happens to us if this doesn't go through1

I'm just guessing, but that's not stopping anyone else. In my opinion, there isn't a problem, but I can imagine the financial background of our potential new owners may be very complex indeed, so it will take time for the EFL, who are after all not a large outfit, to do satisfactory checks of the ownership structures and ultimate sources of funds in place for this transaction.
It's not the sort of thing that can happen overnight. I'm sure Roland's was far more straightforward than this, and the EFL will doubtless have beefed up the extent of their checks following justified recent criticism of previous sloppiness.
It's like an MoT - if you're flogging the motor a slapdash check will do. If you're keeping it, you want to know it's been done properly.
Patience, people, and breathe...7 -
The way I look at it, we're one day closer to a takeover #TeamWIOTOS6

To be fair, it does not surprise me at all that the EFL is taking its time: they have been under so much flack of late with clubs going bust that they need to politically show they are doing their job. Plus it is getting up to Christmas and there is the general EFL hopelessness, so I am amazed that anything gets done!3

UPBEATS | @MattSouthall84 has just paid the Upbeats a visit at @pfshepbush, where they’ve been taking on @qprtrust’s DS team. #CAFC https://t.co/wuOeCvivHD

it’s either going all fine and Southall is doing a great thing seeing the Upbeats, or it’s cynical PR he’s rocking up there. Delete as required to suit your mood2
