Lincoln City v Charlton Athletic | Post-match thread | Sunday 27th September

I thought we looked the better side through the first half, but then looked very hesitant throughout the entirety of the second. Sometimes, a soft penalty and a clearly offside goal will fire up a team, but we just seemed to lose our nerve today. Lincoln were ordinary at best.

We’re just days out of a long, long period of high stress and uncertainty. It will take time until that spell is broken. Let’s take the opportunity to focus on the fact that with Thomas we’re on the way up, irregardless of poor results like today.

Lets just remember. Takeover success and 1st 11 team not linked.
  • 1 week to sign some decent players to make a go of the first half of the season otherwise it's going to be grim.
  • Ditch the blue kit for starters! Substitutions changed the game even more in their favour which highlights our lack of depth.

Oh well, work to be done. Patience also required.

Think people need to curb expectations until we have a few more players through the door - we're still playing a 17 year old at RB ffs.

Deji not good enough by a long stretch. Doughty had some moments of class but just needs to sort that final ball out.

Ozzy was okay, but why doesn't JW start this season? Is it down to a disrupted pre-season?

First half much better than second, but still not very good.

    Dreadful performance.

Imagine being in the same league as Lincoln and then losing to them, embarrassing on both counts.
  • Well, I suppose at least Bowyer can't blame Morgan for how shit Oshilaja and Purrington are.

    Blind

    That was dog shit again.

Rerun of last week. Every area needs strengthening, from goalkeeper to striker.
  • Predicted a 3-1 defeat so almost right. Losing 2-0 to Lincoln shows how far we have sunk.
  • We are devoid of goals. Washington will be ok. We need two strikers in or we can already forget promotion.
  • First half decent, second half shambles

Deserved nothing from that. Bows I'm sure will be expecting a few more signings this week. Need time for the team to gel so I really don't want to overreact. I have no confidence in atm Bonne any time he gets the ball passed to him. Neither team created anything in the second half, undone by a crap back pass and a lapse in defending.

    We go again

I think Bowyer will I use the penalty/goal from today to fire the team up, hone in on the ruthlessness they’re gonna need to compete. Plus a few reinforcements to bring a bit of new energy (and maybe Dillon and Doughty to sign again).
  • Standard bad officiating in L1 as always, but very little quality or individual skill on show from us again - same as in the Donny match.

We were absolute shite and wouldn't have scored if we'd played another hour.
    Entirely predictable.
But at least it's our shite.
I'll start to judge us after the transfer window closes, as we're still at least 6 players short.
  • Might be a blessing in disguise if it convinces LB that the need for reinforcements is more urgent than he previously thought.

Josh D must be shocking in training to not get at least 15 mins in that side.  Lincoln defended well when required (not often enough).  Shocking pen/offside decision, but that cost us at most a 0-0
  • We gifted Lincoln that. First half was very good very impressed. Also the 1st goal I'm pretty sure it was deflected of Purrington?

2nd half was trash and not acceptable.

    Bonne lazy
Oz needs a rocket up his arse
Oshi scares the crap out of me.
Washington ok holds ball up well.
Doughty tries to hard at times.

Levitt was class as was our new CB.

Oh well back to moaning at the football, things could be a lot lot worse.

Like Barker but would love to have him sent out on loan. Will be unfair to him if he has to play in the team for most of the season

I know Bowyer will say “We didn’t take our chances we could’ve been 2 or 3 up first half,” but he says that too much. We just got soundly beaten by a league two side.
The first half was decent but it was fairly obvious from about 55 minutes that we were never going to score. We never even tested their goalkeeper.
Once again we lacked any attacking fluency, shape or ideas. Everything breaks down in the final third or we’re just swinging crosses in to… who… Who do we have that’s good in the air? At one point they were going in to Oztumer! What exactly is our system of play?
Even Lincoln looked better going forward.
Upfront we are woeful. Playing Bonne is like playing with 10 men. If he’s not tapping them in then his contribution is zero. He doesn’t even bother to close defenders down. Last season looks like a flash in the pan. Take the money.
As a unit we just look disjointed. A bunch of random players thrown together with no system in mind. If Bowyer says we need 7 new players, we don’t need squad players, we need first team players. This team isn’t good enough to get out of league one. It’s not even better than the last team to get out of league one. Not even in the same world.
The two shining lights were Levitt, who was brilliant and Famewo, who looked solid.
A lot needs to change and quickly.
