To be fair it is also testament to William's character to come back like this. Top lad.

Hard to argue with the management after that 🤷🏻♂️1

Today says more about Williams' character than Bowyer's man-management of him imo24
-
Might not like the method, but can't argue with the result.
Shame to be critical, but Williams really shouldn't be hitting the post from 1-yard out. Should have scored two. Other than that thought he was brilliant when he came on and finally showed a bit of determination and drive.1 -

It says that Bowyer knows his players and what they can handle/ what makes them tick far more than us pseudo psychologists on here ;-)
It was good man management from Bowyer to bring out the good character that William's possesses and showed with venom today. There was a point early when he came on when he could have shyed away from a challenge and he didn't/. A minute later he was fouled and got straight up and carried the play on.
Love Williams and Bowyer and they will both be happy with the outcome today.
Bowyer obviously knows Williams has depth of character to react in the right way as he has worked with him daily for 2 + seasons and therefore it has paid off.
Boywer acknowledged this in his post match interview with Minto and also made the point about Maddison working off the ball....he's been allowed to doss about off the ball elsewhere not here...and that was potentially one of Maddison's best performances for us and if he plays with that commitment along with his ability he'll be one of the first on the team sheet.
I trust in Bowyer that he knows what he is doing. I really hope he gets a good go for the next couple of seasons under our first non- crank owner in years.

Im pleased Jonny scored today, I even said out loud whilst watching the game how good it would be if he came on and scored, he needs to keep working hard, wish we could close this thread, move on and put this episode behind us.2

I thought it was poor from LB but proofs in the pudding imo7 -
Hmm, well all I'll say is that I'm glad it worked out, and it does do Bowyer some credit that he turned to Williams in our hour of need today2

We’ll never know for sure if the way Bowyer treated Williams helped or not. Personally I still think it was excessive and Williams has been improving anyway - he was already starting to effect games more and a performance like today’s was brewing, regardless. That said, it was definitely made into a bigger issue on here than it really was. What we can say for certain is it didn’t hinder things. Williams was great today and Bows post match comments were spot on. If you’re going to knock people down you have to be willing to build them back up and Bows did that today, as he has in the past with other players.Really hope Jonny can continue to build on it, we look a much better side when he’s in it and playing well.4

Maybe a change to the thread title needed, nothing wrong with Williams
today, and certainly put himself about in a great team performance.0 -
Well done Bowyer. The bollocking last week did the trick. It’s almost like he knows a bit about man management?
Don’t get me wrong. Also very pleased for Jonny to get his goal and he put in a stellar performance off the bench.8 -
Great man management by Bow, and excellent response by JW, no matter what some of the nambys on here thought.....
Onwards and upwards.4 -
PWR. I thought it was a good decision to take him off last week. He’d given the ball away very cheaply twice in a short space of time and it looked like he had shirked a tackle. To me it looked like something was up and he was heading for a serious injury and my first thought was he had been taken off to protect him as much as to protect the team - NEVER SHIRK A TACKLE BOYS AND GIRLS YOU WONT WIN THE BALL AND YOU WILL COME OFF WORSE. Yesterday he was back on his game and it showed, big time.1

My view is that Williams is part of our best midfield so it doesn't surprise me when he does well. He needs to be involved in every game. He probably doesn't do so well when we are too static but when you are trying to play at a higher tempo, he is a player that can do it because he is well above the level.
One subtle thing I noticed with Bowyer's pre match interview was that he seemed a bit more upbeat and positive. I hope that continues. Maybe last week made him take a step back and think too.9 -
I wish we could start Williams and Maddison in the same team, get the game done by half time, 3 or 4 up and take one off, go for it from the first whistle, no mercy!4
-
Williams stayed on his feet and drive forwards riding a tackle or two yesterday rather than fall at every touch. It produced results. He needs to continue like that.1

Whose to say he wouldnt have scored had Bowyer kept him on the other day.
Williams scoring today doesnt justify what Bowyer did to him the other day
Amazing coincidence after 2.5 years and definitely nothing to do with last week's wake up call.3 -
There was movement around Williams yesterday. Players look better sometimes because of the way the team plays, not just them. I would suggest we start the game against Bristol Rovers, pretending we are one or two down from the start. I thought we were pretty turgid in the first half and Wimbledon went in deserving their lead.2
-
I have been one of the people giving Jonny William's a bit of a roasting on here, that is because what we saw yesterday is what he should be doing every game. He drove forward going past people and being positive. It has been so frustrating watching him the last few months just running in circles and trying to win cheap fouls, he is better than that and hopefully he will continue on from yesterday5

2 weeks running he's given away a goal.2 -

It's a shame we never saw him with Aribo, Taylor and Grant because that would have been something in league 1.6 -
