Not the greatest week for Bowyer. He’s still in credit with me despite the negative tactics. But I suspect his biggest issue now isn’t tactics.
We need to remember that Lee is not exactly a complex character. He’s matured with age but doesn’t do or say anything to suggest that he’s the sharpest tool in the box. To his credit he doesn’t pretend to be so that’s not intended as a criticism. He’s an open book which I like and endears him to the faithful. However, the chest thumping “up and at em chaps” and I’m as hard as nails Alamo approach is ok when we are backs against the wall but under a new progressive owner with all the shyte removed, he’s going to have to show some more sides to him in terms of subtlety and sensitive management. I’m not holding my breath. A great guy to have with you in the trenches and and we will forever be in his debt, but has he the tools for the next stage? Not sure. Don’t forget he didn’t want to be a manager in the first place.
He’s almost like the management consultant who parachutes in to save a failing business. Dead easy to make an initial impression and chuck out all the obvious rubbish but another thing to run the business in an ongoing steady state.
As for Williams. Lovely guy. But his time with us has been one massive exercise in premature ejaculation. So much promise and excitement and then......

I had to like this on the whole but can't agree with the last bit I'm looking forward to a new coach getting the best out of JW if he stays. Premature ejaculation well the story of my life watching CAFC.....
I wouldn't say Bowyer is not very intelligent. I think he is and his tactics have been a positive feature of him previously. As a player, he was high end Premier League quality but he also let himself down on a number of occasions.
I suspect anger management was an issue that he sorted out as he matured fishing and enjoying life. Then he went into management without any real pressure and not even being sure he wanted to be a manager and that helped him as a manager and his more negative features were buried.
During this time, he showed himself to be very astute and an excellent man manager. Then we had the injury crisis, the constant Roland crisis and the ESI crisis. This must have been incredibly frustrating and that along with him deciding that he did want to be a manager, clearly put more pressure on him.
I suspect that pressure has allowed the negative elements of his personality to come out and that is what we are seeing now. It would probably have been a great thing for him personally to move, and whilst I doubt there was a queue of clubs, I think he probably could have got the Birmingham job. He did show loyalty in sticking with us.
But that seems to have been at a cost to him. He was understandably negative when injuries were a disaster and the squad was so weak, but he doesn't really seem to have come out of the mindset. We are seeing the excuses and underplaying things, which was not the Bowyer we saw before all this. That is outside of blaming players and fans.
He is the same man of course and maybe with the help of others he can get his mojo back. But being in charge can be a lonely job and he has a new pressure of expectation. It is a good pressure in many ways and probably one the Bowyer of a year ago would have relished, but I'm not so sure now.
The added problem is if you are not the loyal supportive, confident manager it does affect players. We have seen some obvious signs there has been a change, but they will have probably seen more. When you lose them, it is very hard to get them back. Probably the way to do it is reset, apologise to the group, explain why and promise to change. A clean sheet as it were. Is Bowyer the sort to do that or even admit he was wrong though? if not, this is only going to end badly.

While we're at it , i think Lee and Jonnie need to kiss and make up.
I personally don't like what Bows has done. Everyone knows that JW has mental health issues. It is Bows choice to take him off. However. you do not slate hi,m in public like that. The bloke took a wage drop to join us when he could have walked away. He could have had a word with him privately. To publicly slate him in public that was out of order. I am not one for sacking Bows. However, he does need to change as the team as a whole are under performing in a very weak league.
I might be missing something but why is it being assumed JW's post refers to Bowyer/ Charlton?
'Treat others as you would want to be treated' is a common sentiment and IMO just as likely to be aimed at the all-too-common plebs who give players shit on social media.
Not denying that there might be problems in the camp, but AFAIK there is no concrete evidence of that yet and think we might be getting a bit ahead of ourselves.
Just to say... Williams won a challenge then was off balance for the second, sure he did step out of it but he was so off balance and with his injury history... I can't believe he's been hauled off for that...
Not sure what is going on.. Only time will tell. Love LB but... Sometimes we have LB the old player managing us and not someone that can step back and look at things from a different perspective.
He shoots first and then asks questions.
It's this piece of man management that needs to improve. Calling out players isn't too clever but I have to say Johnny is a luxury player that I think is not needed in this league... We need a Cullen or dare I say it LB type of player.
I just hope we can improve across all areas on Saturday.

Because it's very timely, coinciding with Bowyers comments about JW.

Particularly as Washington bottled 2 or 3 in the game.

He proper bottled that. He would have got their first too. No excuses for a professional to do that.

If all our players did that every time they needed to make a challenge we would probably lose about 50-0.
Did he bottle it? If he had followed through on that tackle he could have easily injured the other player and may have been sent off. He has a split second to make that decision. It looks bad as he pulled out of the tackle it may have been a lot worse for the oppo, him and the team if he didn't. It's all about opinions but I don't think that warranted being dragged off and singled out in the post match interview.
If he'd gone in for that it would have been a yellow card (for Williams) and a free kick (for them) at best. It looked like he was initially fouled by the first guy (as Bogle seems to be protesting). Meanwhile note Watson strolling around aimlessly as per

Oh come on. It was a 50v50 tackle that he shirked, you can't worry about if you will injure them.

No, actually if we left Williams on we would have won the game
That's not a 50-50 tackle. From the side it looks it, but Williams has to travel a distance away from the camera, which doesn't look as far, and the other guy was always getting there first

I don't think it was a 50v50. There player got to the ball first so 70v30. These days it is so easy for players to get sent off for the most innocuous tackles that are deemed reckless and then people would be moaning why he made that challenge when he didn't need to.

Of course he bottled it. Pathetic commitment to fighting for the shirt. As a fan I ask only for 100% effort.
I don’t think we have a particularly good squad and am not convinced that more than a couple of our players (as opposed to loans), would be good enough for the Championship. We need to at least match the commitment of our opponents to win a match. If an individual player cannot do that, best he leave. I like Williams, but I love Charlton.

He showed running and commitment the whole time he was on. That isn't a lack of effort, that's him not wanting to dive in for a ridiculous tackle while he's stumbling that would likely result in some sort of card. There are ways of putting in effort that don't involve making narky challenges

If from the moment Williams was subbed Charlton players didn't put in another tackle I assure you we would have let in a goal roughly every 60 seconds.
Do you recall that Sheff U v Arsenal game when the players stood aside and allowed a goal to be walked in? We would be doing that upwards of 50 times a game.

Not all tackles are undertaken by someone who's stumbling after changing direction at pace

But ten other players would still have put tackles in.
I can understand fans saying Bowyer over reacted and should have handled the matter in private (he probably should). But I can't understand so many of our fans wanting our players not to make a tackle and just wave through the opposition. Mind you those fans won't be saying that on Saturday if we didn't make one tackle against AFC and lose at home 0-50.
Anyway, if you feel players shouldn't be tackling the opposition then there's not a lot else to discuss.

Interestingly on JW Instagram story, he posted a message along the lines of ‘treat people the way you’d like to be treated’. was that a dig at Bowyer?
