The upcoming away fixture against Peterborough United has been postponed.

Peterborough informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following a recent positive COVID-19 test and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate for 10 days as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

The match was initially scheduled for Tuesday, December 29th and the two clubs will work to reschedule the fixture.

Supporters can purchase a live streaming pass for Saturday's game against Swindon Town here.

Please see below the full statement from the EFL:

Peterborough United’s next three Sky Bet League One fixtures against Ipswich Town (Saturday 19 December), Gillingham (Saturday 26 December) and Charlton Athletic (Tuesday 29 December) have been suspended.

The Club informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following a recent positive COVID-19 test and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate for 10 days as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

Revised dates for the rearranged fixtures will be confirmed in due course.

Why is our game off if it’s 10 days isolation? Do they get a grace period to train before the game?
  • I'm beginning to think this season is not going to finish.

How are they able to call the match off if they only need to isolate for 10 days?
  • Seems a bit off to postpone a game so far away

L1 is really being hit hard by postponements. Bristol Rovers, Sunderland and now Peterborough. It's completely changed the nature of our Christmas programme to a relaxed 1 game a week

So they need to isolate for 10 days, so wont be able to train then the following day are due to have a possible 6 pointer against another promotion chasing team without any training or matches for 10 days so will be cold, so call it off

    Seems very suspect to me.

Clubs are now using Covid for their advantage, which is wrong and needs to be looked at, there is absolutely no reason for our game to be off, if they still have covid in 10 days then fair enough, but right now, they are using a global pandemic as an excuse which is poor

So you think Peterborough want a fixture pile up

Agree - isolating to comply with covid social distancing requirements is a permissible reason to postpone a match. Allowing postponements because a team claims they weren’t able to train sufficiently beforehand is a slippery slope, where does that end?

They'd probably choose that instead of playing us when they haven't trained for 10 days

Probably prefer to play 2 fixtures in a week throughout jan and feb than play a promotion rival on the back off no training for 10 days yes

Like us they are out The FA Cup so have spare dates already, so a couple of extra games in jan on FA Cup days wont bother them at all

And what happens 2 months down the line they have to self isolate again

  • Got to be double headers at the end of the season like they do in junior football. Much more exciting for everyone.

Division 1 teams have fixtures on FA Cup days from 3rd round onwards. They get postponed if 1 team is still in the cup.

Depends who they have to play and how many games they will postpone, no doubt if they are playing Wigan 1 day after self isolation ends they will be happy to play the game

Used to love a double header back in the day. Everybody blowing out their backside after a game only to have to change ends and start all over again.

*edit - reading the above it all sounds rather rude too!

Postponing games unnecessarily could be a very dodgy ploy this season, we could get a covid outbbreak in our squad at anytime later in the season or a period of severe weather could lead to postponements.
Postponing games for tactical reasons will likely backfire on any team this season.

Ha just about to post that myself. Expect the EFL to award Posh the 3 points.

Could backfire on posh if that player of theirs who seems to be scoring for fun moves on in the January window before they play the rearranged game

They won't be selling Clarke Harris in the January window

Why is the whole squad isolating?
