The Valley Pitch

Watching the Quest highlights, the Peterborough pitch was atrocious on Saturday, joint worst with the Newport one which is always terrible as they play rugby on it as well
I'd be amazed if their game goes ahead tomorrow0 -
Affecting in what way?Hex said:
That would normally be about right on a cold night but the huge amount of rain is affecting that.Covered End said:The last time we had a game off because of a frozen pitch I recall CAFC saying the temperature of The Valley pitch (in a valley) was 2/3C below the official temperature on the weather report.0 -
If the ground is saturated then any frost will penetrate deeper below the surface and it will take longer for the pitch to thaw, and then there will be even more water in the pitchCovered End said:

All looks very pretty and all that, long as it fu*ks off before Saturday, greatkillerandflash said:0 -
Old style orange balls - you just can't whack 'em.

Leave the snow on the pitch until Saturday, then clear it before the match, the snow will act as an insulation stopping the ground from freezing.eastterrace6168 said:

This is my understanding too. A layer of snow helps to prevent freezing0

And solar panels on the top of the stands.Raith_C_Chattonell said:Just a thought, but can efficient heat pump technology be used for under soil heating?
Ground source pumps derive their energy from the ground anyway and with boilers being phased out from 2025 might be worth a look. Any spare energy could be used to provide hot water to the toilets too ...

PWR.
Looks to me like there are tarps covering the entire pitch?0 -
Yes, frost mats that only work up to around -2C (they have said previously).SoundAsa£ said:PWR.

Due to the hard work of the ground staff and the forecast, there are no current concerns about Saturday’s game going ahead #cafc5

Keeping the soil warmer. It’s noticeable today how quickly paths are losing their snow despite the temperature being below freezing.Covered End said:

“and the forecast” - really. Currently London minimum on Wednesday night is forecast to be -8C with maximums on Thursday and Friday barely above 0C, if that.ross1 said:Due to the hard work of the ground staff and the forecast, there are no current concerns about Saturday’s game going ahead #cafc0 -
Mr Weatherman, it looks to be hitting a positive temperature on multiple upcoming days.
