Yay let's turn on our only forward who nearly got us into the Play Offs last season by leading the line and scoring vital goals.4
-
What did today tell us that we didn't already know? Probably nothing. The frame of the side looks very solid but goals may be at a premium. We certainly have the base to compete at the top if we can bring a couple of the right quality in. I think Gomes should get a year too. You have to think of the squad and he looks like a decent option.0

I'm expecting 5 loans and 2 perms before next Saturday tbh. Anything less will leave us woefully short IMHO.
Edit. We have a strong 1st 11, but with our recent injury record we could be struggling.
The youth have stepped up this PS, but we can't hedge bets on the all coming through. Especially if we are to 'blow the competition away', or whatever Tommy said.4 -
Can’t see that happening.0

Pending any new signings this week, I reckon today's starting line up will be the same next Saturday, v Sheff Weds.

So we may start the season with 2 forwards with league one experience and no attacking left side player (or a left back)
I doubt that was in the plan.3 -
My fear is that if he is our main striker then he wont score enough to get us promoted. Usually with a big man up top you'd have someone playing off him or as part of a traditional front 2. Currently we have neither. Imo we still dont have a "main striker" and the fact that Schwartz has not had 1 second of a pre season game means it's even more likely he wont be featuring much, if at all, this season. That then leaves us with Washington (currently being played wide) and Davison (no experience or scoring record) to score the goals.lancashire lad said:I know you guys think Stockley is great but to me he is still showing donkey like tendencies, Ok he can head the ball and it is useful when we defend corners but so far in these friendlies he has left a lot to be desired as our main striker.
Nope. Just not working for me.
I will hold my hands up to say I've seen very little of us this pre-season and everyone is saying how good we look, especially in midfield. Unfortunately though that just seems to have shifted to problem from being a passing sideways team to a team with no end product.
Big debate on the rumours thread earlier about "who is going to score the goals" and I purposely didnt join in as I've said it all too often.
I've been told to wait a month until the transfer window closes so that I'll do.

We won’t get 5 loans before next Saturday….maybe before the window shuts4

Innis certainly showed he is fit now. Running very fast. Looked good working with Fanewo.0

I doubt we will get 5 more, unless we confirm Famewo as a perm.Elthamaddick said:We won’t get 5 loans before next Saturday….maybe before the window shuts3 -
I wouldn't be surprised if Innis misses out - too soon for a full 90 mins or he has a bad reaction during training.Oggy Red said:

Agree completely. We didn't have enough goals in the side last year and we have less now.golfaddick said:

Only 4 teams scored more than us last season......Cardinal Sin said:

Exactly. Man City played Barnsley today and midweek are playing Blackpool.Cafc43v3r said:
Covid has really hampered who you can play. Man United don't normally play QPR etc.lordromford said:

18 goals in Adkins 10 games league one games in charge - and 21 in 11 if you count Jackson's.Cardinal Sin said:

Of course personnel has changed, and we are currently lacking someone like Millar to create chances and of course Aneke to put them away.
But again, I think many people are underestimating our players and our manager. I really think DJ is really going to be mustard this year, and if we can get someone equal to him on the opposite flank then we will be a massive threat going forwards.4 -

And wasn't it TS himself who said he would rather see us lose 5-4 or something similar.1 -
Don’t think as things stand we’re going to be high scorers but we’ll score goals. The defence I think is going to be strong. 1 - 0 gives the same amount of points as 3 - 0. My worry is what happens when we go a goal behind. I don’t see at present that game changing player. Still time though.2

As it stands, Inniss is probably going to be one of our key offensive players. There are lots of question marks about next season and whilst I believe it can be a good one, I suspect we are going to need a bit of luck.0
-
I know we had Stockley from the 2nd half of last season, but I reckon he will , if he stays fit score more than Chuks did from now till Christmas, and potentially create more chances for others, purely because he’s spending more minutes on the pitch and having a bigger impact on the game.

Agree 100% with this - but when we aren’t getting any change from the CB’s do we not have to try something else - like move him wider onto their short no2 - or play him deeper and have runners going past him ?ForeverAddickted said:

Yeah I was surprised Stockley didn't move over to their left back to try and bring DJ in with some easier headers then Washington and clare could attack the box. The balls up to Stockley were piss poor I have to say though. Most of them just went straight to a Fulham shirt or were towards their tallest CB, which didn't make much sense.
The few times we looked threatening behind Washington didn't have the dribbling to turn the situation into a goal threat sadly.0
