The visitors went ahead early on and then doubled their lead on the half hour mark, seeing the half out with a dominating performance. This wasn’t the game we were all expecting.
Changes were made early in the second half (Leko and then Washington) and we finally found the impetus to get back into it. Leko found the net shortly after coming on. We looked to capitalise on the momentum from the goal and draw level. But it wasn’t to be. The game was lost in the first half.

The Adkins bouncy bouncy approach has well and truly gone for a Burton.
I still don't think this group are playing for him and he's quite possibly losing the dressing room.

Shambles, but don't expect anything else from a bunch of mediocre League one squad players. Despite all the centre mids we have, none of them look good enough................

Spent all summer taking an ageing, uninspiring squad and making it arguably worse.
We needed some decent loans to add some youth. We didn’t do it and it’s made us look very one dimensional.2 -

If Adkins persists in thinking we can play Stockley as a lone striker we will never get out of the lower half of this division. And despite what some people have argued on here Lee is not a striker. He is more of an old fashioned inside right. We looked much better second half when he was pushing forward with Leko and Stockley in front of him14

As I said on the match thread - for all the talk of fast, attacking football, I'm beginning to lose faith that NA knows how to set up a team to deliver it. Instead we get pedestrian, toothless football; not surprising given some names in the starting line up.

Adkins had to be accountable, first half too cautious let them have to much of the ball, we needed to start on the front but you are never going to get that with Gunter and Watson playing sideways passes and taking 5 touches of the ball every time we got possession. What happened to high press , quick turnovers and moving the ball with one touches? Oh it was a Cheltenham who did that. I really hope NA dosnet come out and try put a positive spin on this6

Lovely day today at Blakeney and then spent the afternoon on the beach at Wells. Got about £100 worth of crab and sea food to eat now.11

That was utterly clueless. There are questions over Adkins now, for me. Cheltenham had so much space, I was laughing. They were picking it up in our box with nobody near them, with time to take a touch and pick a pass. At one point, they had an overlap on the left-hand side... Two of their players... Against nobody. We had nobody on that side at all. What on earth was going on. How a professional manager can set up a side that cedes that much space is beyond me. Cheltenham could easily have had six.
Even in our victory against Crewe, they had a number of good chances. As a team we're a complete mess.
Not just Adkins, though. Stockley was woeful today. Gunter and Matthews awful. Watson and Morgan not tracking their man. DJ really poor. Kirk lazy and anonymous.
OK, we had a go in the second half, but it's not good enough. Cheltenham ran circles around us at times. Cheltenham Town. Playing at The Valley. Christ that's rock bottom.10 -

Where do you even start with that. Don’t want to dig Stockley out too much because the system just doesn’t work for him but he looked like a donkey today. We needed a backup. Every CM partnership we’ve played has been dreadful so unless Arter can play 40 games like he’s prime Iniesta we’re in for a long year. DJ and Kirk awful. Defence was dreadful throughout. Leno is the only one who comes out of that with any credit apart from maybe Lee for a few decent moments1

We weren’t incredible in the second half, but if we’d played like we did in the second for the full 90 we’d have won, I think. First half was very poor though. Players need to up the intensity but Adkins deeply at fault for getting the starting selection and shape wrong and also not changing it earlier.I wasn’t convinced Adkins was the right appointment and I’m still not. This will all take time though and hopefully things start to gel more as the weeks go by. I do still see signs of the team we can be but lots of work to do. Things will need to really gel as it will take a hell of a run from here to get back into automatic promotion contention and even the playoffs look a stretch.4

Defending Albie Morgan all pre season after the lack of signings centre midfield but I was wrong. That’s the most anonymous centre midfield I’ve seen in charlton shirts, Morgan and Watson cannot be seen again, they don’t want the ball, they don’t do anything with it and they offer nothing.
Kirk has been terrible, are we that much bigger than Crewe that their top players come here and look irrelevant? DJ I still have a bit of hope for but not consistent that’s for sure.
Stockley left holding his cock upfront cannot get anywhere near the ball enough cos there’s nothing worth attempting.
So when do we look at Atkins, another one I defended, we looks devoid of any tactics or game plan, unless you call skipping centre midfielder altogether and punting it long to a lone striker tactics. And he’s got a good squad on paper, I don’t want him gone let’s be clear but this is not acceptable and he’s gotta take some responsibility.
This Cheltenham side sliced about 5 clearances today, they’re not even league one standard I’d argue, but we let them have so much time. They’re like a Sunday league side who’ve been given a big day out but somehow made mugs of us.
How the fuck does this club STILL regress even in the face of a bit of finance and positivity around the place, are we plagued, do we have a terminal disease? I genuinely feel like if we signed messi he’d still not score or take a player on.

lavelle looks ok, lee looks promising (being that he didn’t have a chance and very isolated, he grew into the game). God knows why there was so much hype about Leko - as beside his goal, I’m not sure what he brings to the team yet? Right wing was glaringly lacking a Charlton man yet we kept attacking that side- bizarre!Defence really misses a no nonsense Ryan innis - wouldn’t mind seeing him play with lavelle potentially!
papé Souare looks good, and can only be a vast improvement on Gunter, whilst Kirk and DJ looked as if they didn’t wanna play.

Three almost identical opportunities came where the ball was played out to a player in space on the right where he could shoot: Jaiyesimi, Gunter and Leko. Leko placed his shot perfectly to get us a goal back. DJ and Gunter both walloped the ball into row Z.
At the end of the day, if we only make the right decision 1 time out of 3, we’re winning nothing.5 -
8 points off the playoffs after 6 games is a shocking start. Yes there is plenty of time to turn it around but the nature of our performances doesn't fill you with much confidence.1
