    He would have done in another 20 yards.
    It was a very good performance by Palace Pier, as Gosden said that he was only 80% fit after the illness, which caused him to miss the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

    If that is Palace Pier 80% fit, considering he was giving 6lbs to a very good Poetic Flare, I see him nearly unbeatable over the mile this year

    Off to the Arc de Triomphe meet at Longchamp this weekend... can't wait! Just hope the weather holds our, heavy rain predicted

    Just flicked on a race at the Arc meeting on ITV.  

    about 18 horses running and apart from 3 of them they were all greys. 

    Just looked really strange

    That must have been the Arabian World Cup. Most Arabians are grey.
    There are a few thoroughbred races for grey horses only.

    Yesterday was the first time I’d heard of the Laytown ‘track’ in Ireland.
    Are there any other race meetings run on courses that are not your usual turf/poly etc set up in what I’d consider normal rules race surroundings?

    They race on snow in St Moritz, or ‘the white turf’ as it’s called.

    Its where George Baker really injured his head after falling.
