Possibly the most important aspect of a modern day footballers repertoir4 -
He's like a lower league shot stopper who will have some games he stops everything, but on the whole he's showing to have more weaknesses than strengths.7

RonnieMoore said:that game really proved the fine line between winning and losing .. a nasty niggling first half , Accrington tactics never nice and the bully boy tactics .. ref was dreadful he was conned time and time again… Pell should have seen red in first half ..
Key moments .. morgan makes a fine take but ref gives free kick 0-1
OG after good build up 1-1
46 mins Stockley clear header few yards out and he misses a sitter
few moments later Stockley loses an easy pass from Taylor Accrington attack and within 30 secs 1-2 very poor from Stockley
1-3 again out of nothing left back needs to do better
2-3 Good goal from Stockley after excellent work from Washington
Brilliant volley from Davison hits keeper who knows nothing about it and ball goes wide
lot of pressure put on the Accrington area but they held firm .. with a lot of cheating falling over at the slightest touch and time wasting
overall we deserved something from that game second half we showed what a good team we can be7 -

I have no ill feeling towards Adkins, though I agree he needs to go, but I genuinely hate some of these players.
I'm not gonna slag Adkins off, it seemingly just isn't working out and the players aren't helping.
Washington, Stockley, Davison the only three I can honestly say seem to be trying when they play, CBT & Leko in spurts, but everyone else just going through the motions.3 -

Simonsen said:Morgan: 4.5 - Only really got going late on when Accrington dropped deep and gave him space to play. Looked like he was hiding a bit 1st half and that forced Mac to kick long. Could have easily backed Gunter up for 2nd goal (that's what they did...double up) and was very weak for 3rd goal.
Don't disagree on the third goal though, he should have come to his man much quicker and possibly taken a tactical booking had he not needlessly been booked first half. Also not sure how a foul was given for his tackle for the first free kick goal... That was a good tackle probably 60:40 in Morgan's favour.

Nah it was a foul. I was close to it, he came and barged him over clumsily2

Mac at fault for two of those goals last night.1 -
There is a fundamental problem with our tactics. You don’t make 5 changes a week and still get the same results if it’s the players fault. Its not the players ignoring or not understanding their jobs, they’re doing what they’ve been asked and it’s just not working. League one level footballers will make mistakes, every fan should understand that, but ours seems tied down to shockingly poor instructions and then make mistakes on top of that. A recipe for disaster. There is no way that as a full back, you allow consistent crosses into your own box because you don’t close down. It’s a defenders natural instinct to go towards a winger and make the angle and option the smallest possible for your opponent. Ours close to the edge of the box and stop, allowing space and time for their player to pick out whoever wants to finish.
Its every single game and it costs us all the time.
Our midfield is static and lacks any confidence, probably because none have had the chance to strike up an understanding because they’re alongside someone different or suddenly go from 2 to 3 or back to 2 the following week. The spine of almost all successful football sides, especially at Championship and League One level, is built on a strong spine running through the middle of the pitch. Wingers are notoriously inconsistent, so you look to your CB’s, CM’s, CF to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and lay down a foundation from kick off. How can that happen if week on week, none of our midfielders no if they’ll be at the Valley or sitting at home?!9 -

It’s a massive part of modern football. People get through constipation quicker than he gets the ball out2

I'm to upset to be annoyed. Our demise and just how effing awful we are is practically bringing me to tears and I've been through it in the 55 years supporting this club.0

This is the game that's living rent free in my head.
I had it on my second monitor last night and didn't pay full attention, but caught all the goals and build ups and was left fuming, but I know now that it is the pain of what it represents more than the result that hurts. We are not Charlton the family club any more, we are not a big fish at this level anymore.
We are a yo yo club and eventually a yo yo stops bouncing only to begin again... is this our reset are we to become a L1/L2 yo yo now?1 -
Reset. Reset, Reset.
If Thomas Sandgaard gets on that plane back to Colorado and Nigel Adkins is still in a job then we must assume that he is playing the long game. The Championship via League 2.
The only advantage in waiting until we lose at Sunderland is at least the first game will be at home to Doncaster which will be more of a 50/50 match for the caretaker manager. (Unless they have a manager that they had already sounded out about the job in the last month ?)
I said give Adkins 15 games to get the team playing to his shape, tactics, etc and then make a decision.
This has to be brought forward to 13 or 14 games as we are imploding quicker than a falling star.
Reset: the aim is now to stay in League 1 for this 21/22 season.4 -

It bounces down, no-one knows if it's in. There's three Acrrington players charging in on it and ours are all literally just stood there watching. Our best defender in that moment was the pitch, the ball bounced so weirdly back out that it went away from every Accrington player until our lot decided to wake up and maybe think about moving. Honestly, watch it again, it's like our players are being controlled by someone who's nipped off for a cup of tea and forgotten to pause the game. Genuinely infuriating. We'll be lucky to yo-yo back up from L2 the way things are going, everything just seems fundamentally broken5 -
Reading a lot of “the players are to blame”.
If Nigel doesn’t know his best 11, formation or playing style then how the hell are the players supposed to?
I don’t think many of the players can be criticised for lack of effort. It is one man’s job to turn that effort into a fluid and efficient team.
Get him gone.2 -
Any decent manager, considering our form, would have parked the bus for a few games, not Adkins, on Saturday he will still pick a three man midfield and stand there wondering why they are getting overun by four opposition midfielders. He will then start scratching his head as to why his narrow three man midfield does not come across and cover the full backs. Do the maths you thick 'effing Northerner or get TS's out of jail and resign.3

Official attendance last night given as 11,813.
Anyone any idea how many people were actually in the ground?1 -
Chris Gunter retired a couple of years back but just doesn’t have the common courtesy to tell anyone12

too many changes mean that once the (ever changing) team settles down and gets organised, we are already a goal or two behind .. once the penny drops with players, all too often far too late in the game, we look a lot better .. BUT, of course, because we lost said game, Adkins makes yet more changes and the self defeating cycle starts all over again0
-
Sunderland fans must be licking their lips for our arrival on Saturday.
What a time to play us.
I can see a big score (6 or 7 nil) and sweet revenge following our recent successes against them in the two play-off finals.
I have always held a great respect for the Sunderland fans (I think they are very much like us) and readily recall their reaction following their huge disappointments on those days. They showed great dignity in the way they took their defeats and were generous in their praise and respect for our fans as together they made their way out of Wembley.
I feel the time is ripe for them to enjoy a bloody good weekend.

No change and we're down. We can't change the players (and honestly who'd have most of them at the moment). We can change the manager.
Expect Sunderland to put more than 4 past us at the weekend.0 -
It would be interesting to know the number of "belters / worldies" scored against us the past few years.
Our wall and general defending outside the penalty area just means players have to recreate shooting practice from training.1 -
