Wouldn't change a thing tbh - Brownie's analysis works well for me alongside the enthusiasm of the two regular commentators. They are ours and it's Charlton TV (not Sky or the Beeb).2

I was hesitating to mention this. I can recall that he was doing exactly this summarising job on live games. Not Charlton as far I recall, I think may have been West Ham. I have not listend to BBC London since the live streams came along, but I thought long before that he did not have that gig any more. When was the last time you (or anyone) can recall him doing a live game for them. ( of course, if he stopped, there could be several possible reasons why).JohnnyH2 said:

Heard Steve on R London a few weeks back on a game that wasn't Charlton .. he is/was excellent and as always managed to get a few comments in about Charlton .. he was certainly not as voluble as he can be when punditing our games .. I'm sure that his passion and love for anything Charlton related means he all too often gets carried away .. for my part he can carry on just as he is3

Again, I agree he does add insights, they are worth having, but, quantity rather than quality, less is more, etc...
@Redrobo Yep, I'm an annual subscriber. I was wondering if that semi-mute button exists, but the thing is, I think Terry and Greg are very good, they hit the right tone and quantity for me, even if Terry is palpably biased. Why not, we are paying for it, and Greg or Brownie soon correct him. But I wouldn't wish to mute them all.
Looks like I'm in a clear minority though, so fair enough, that's why I started the thread, to gauge the general opinion. I'll just have to live with it.2 -

There's a balance to be struck for sure, but for me the longer Brown'ole witters on the less I have to hear those other two mangling players' names and spouting clichéd guff.1

Thought it was just me. I love Brownie, but he over analyzes everything. I know it's just the way he is, but it's not for me2

Yeah I feel the same. At times, he's very good and very insightful. But at other times, he's too much. And I think he's sometimes a little too smart after the fact. I appreciated yesterday that he did acknowledge "this is easier for me to say up here than do down there." Which is how I feel about a lot of his criticisms. But yeah, mixed feelings on him. He could be maybe 10 or 15% less, and still be very effective.
That said, thought the lad they had in the studio from the podcast was excellent. Want him there every match. He brought excellent insight into the opposition and the league as a whole.3 -
I like Brownie because you can tell he just loves doing his job. Always prefer commentators like him to those who make it sound like a chore when they are doing it4

Has he? Didn’t know that. But I think you need a bit less chat on TV commentary than on radio. He does offer very good insights though.JohnnyH2 said:

Glad it’s not just me. I almost had to turn the sound off last night. Between Brownie and the fact that it’s primarily a commentary for radio so the main commentators are in themselves relentless, it’s almost unbearable. There is literally no pause for breath. Ironically, Brown by and large talks a lot of sense and is quite insightful. It’s just the sheer volume of verbal diahorea that is so off putting.5

Charlton TV is of course not just TV its an audio service as well so the 2 different skill sets are required, very difficult to achieveJamesSeed said:

He could probably stand to tone it down a touch, but he's passionate about football and a Charlton fan so get's a bit carried away sometimes. Give me the over enthusiasm over the alternative any day of the week. He doesn't very often say anything I find myself disagreeing with, he's just a little around the houses in getting to his point. Can't say it particularly bothers me. Like Tel's ref bashing - I could live without it, but I can live with it too. All very small price to pay for getting what is an overall great service and something of a life saver for an overseas Addick.

Might have some merit if he was on BT sport critiquing the likes of Chiellini or Van Dijk, not when he's analysing Jason Pearce or George Dobson in League One when his whole career was played above that level.6 -

This thread’s been quiet for a while.
Unlike Brownie, who was apparently suffering with a bout of verbal diarrhea on commentary last night.
He’s never bothered me before, but hellfire, he was rambling on. And so negative even when 4-1 up! Even Tel must’ve noticed because he started making excuses for Brownie’s negativity even before the game was over.
He’s not normally like this is he? I know some moan about his commentary, but I’ve certainly not noticed it being this bad before.2 -
The thing is with Brownie is he isn't subjective enough. It's always my way or the highway with him.
'Hes doing that because....'
'He should be doing that because....'
'Thats happening because.....'
It's like he is some sort of football oracle that's got all the answers for everything happening on the pitch. It certainly grated.0 -
I disagree, I like his analysis, and interpretations of formations and tactics. He can be a tad negative, but overall I feel he adds to the match experience.20

But...did you hear the commentary last night? It was particularly strange to hear him passionately pointing out the team's deficiencies when we were 4-1 up.... I still like him and fair play to him for sticking by his principles and not letting a scoreline sugar coat any issues...but... still...4
