Would like to see some of the below happen but appreciate all would be too many and never happen in Jan. Suspect 1, 2 and 7 most likely and maybe one of the others.
1. JFC takes Schwartz place2. Arter back to Forest and we bring in real back up for Dobson.
3. Souare told he won't play again and will be released in summer so to look for another club. Young LB bought in.
4. Watson told the same as above. Bring in young attacking mid as back up to Gilbey.
5. Gunter told same as above. Aneke bought back
6. Innis paid off. Young CB bought in to compete for first team spot.
7. Davisson sold/loaned out. Young PL loanee striker recruited.2 -
Such a shame about Innis. If he manages to make it through this current injury to play till the end of the season, then will be happy to reassess, but it's unlikely.1

Been with us a season and a half, played 18 games, says it all.mendonca said:Such a shame about Innis. If he manages to make it through this current injury to play till the end of the season, then will be happy to reassess, but it's unlikely.4 -
He’s at Charlton, it’s just stretching it a bit to say he’s a Charlton player.colthe3rd said:

I would be very surprised if any of those moved just yet. There seems to be a spirit in this squad now that they are here on a mission to progress with the club. Stockley on record saying he wants to end his career here. For the 1st time in years I genuinely believe we will only sell players that we want to sellFortune 82nd Minute said:Providing we can cancel Arter's loan, he will surely go back to Forest.
More interesting is what happens to Kirk. I wonder if there will be some phone calls to Crewe to see if they want to take him back on loan to get him in the shop window so we can try to recoup some of his transfer fee.
Gunter is another interesting one. Not on the subs bench for the last 2 games with Elerewe preferred. JJ sending out a message?
And whilst we are talking about who might go, much more concerning to me is bids from championship clubs for Gilbey, Washington, Stockley and possibly Dobson. If anyone comes calling, I fear they are gone.
But if someone says to stockley we'll treble your wage from say £5k a week to £15K a week I wonder if he would still want to end his career with us?0 -

I think we need Davison and a new striker. Stockley will be suspended again and Washington likes a niggle, they're both massive for us but we absolutely need 4 strikers.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Which is where the squad number restrictions are a bit silly, as you can't register someone as a coach and occasional player. If he maintains his player registration for the league, that's a squad place "wasted".thenewbie said:

I agree but he seems to be doing a good job assisting the "real" coaches so maybe JJ wouldn't see that as wasted.killerandflash said:

Right now if any one of Dobson, Gilbey or Lee were injured I’d be concerned. Arter and Clare could cover, but Clare is playing well in defence and Arter hasn’t bedded in yet.Up top we’re very thin if either of Stockley or Gilbey miss games. Burstow isn’t quite ready to start yet, and Davison isn’t experienced enough probably. With Inniss and Lavelle out we’re really struggling at the back, although Elerewe is coming on nicely. So I think we need:
a CB,
a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder, (or box to box).
plus one more striker.
If we lose Soare we obvs need an LB or LWB.
I’m happy enough with Mathews as cover RB if a defensive one is needed. Gunter has done ok under JJ.There are a few we could let go to make space.1 -

I just think Davison will benefit more from a league 2 loan than being our 4th choice striker (assuming we sign someone else) and sat in the stands most weeks.0 -

I hadn't thought of Leko although not sure JJ see's him as a striker. I do agree Davison could be better with a loan, but we need to make sure we've got the options too. Personally I'd keep him for now and re-evaluate in the summer.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

CM is such a tricky one, because I agree, we need a DM as cover for Dobson and an AM as cover for Lee. However, it's also the position where we're going to be massively stocked in - Dobson, Arter, Watson, Gilbey, Clare, JFC, Morgan and Lee fighting for 3 spaces. Although not as effective, I think JFC can play CDM or CM. So he could replace Dobson and Gilbey, or replace Lee with Gilbey pushing up a bit. With Morgan, Clare and Watson, I think we're probably better to wait until the summer to replace Morgan and Watson.JamesSeed said:Right now if any one of Dobson, Gilbey or Lee were injured I’d be concerned. I think JFC should replace Arter in the squad. A new striker to replace Schwartz and a left sided CB who can compete with Pearce for a spot and/or cover Famewo. It means either the CB or STR need to be a U21 player.0 -
There's so much of this that would be bad management. There's no reason Souare should be told he won't play again. He's capable back-up for Purrington and unless some genius LB becomes available now we'll be looking to pick one up in the summer when players are more available. More pressing is Purrington's contract. Who is going to come in for Watson and Gunter now at anything other than cost to us if we try and force them out? Gunter is currently, what, seventh choice in our backline? Why alienate him most likely to no positive effect when he hasn't exactly embarrassed himself in the back three this season. Watson isn't there to play, he's basically operating as the third coach for the team at the moment. I think this is the end of his career and he'll be transitioning over to coaching so wouldn't be much benefit to telling him he won't play again other than to annoy him. Inniss is also on peanuts, I'm pretty sure he's on less than Albie so there's no point in paying him off. He gets injured a lot but he's very good when he plays and he's on hardly more than Josh Davison so he's really not much of a drain on the club. Why would Aneke rejoin us down a league and how would we afford to pay him? And do we want a player who would cost a hell of a lot when he can't start games? Also a bad idea to push Davison out; we need four strikers so we should keep him as fourth choice and get another striker in. A young PL loanee would be ideal. Most of our business is going to be done in the summer, if we can move some players on in Jan to make space then great but I don't think telling them they won't play again is the way to go about it. Hardly fits Jackson's positive, team-focused way of workingAthletico Charlton said:Would like to see some of the below happen but appreciate all would be too many and never happen in Jan. Soare put in a lovely pass/cross for Washington's second on Saturday. He does look dodgy at times but perhaps that's down to having played so little consistent football over the years. The quality is there.13
-
I would be happy with a couple of premiership loans a striker and another holding midfielder. We are very reliant on Stockley and if Dobson picks up an injury I think we would be a shadow of the team we are at the moment. Knowing he is there to break up play is giving our midfield the confidence to play on the front foot.6

How many times has JFC played at left wing back? I can only recall one game in the Championship where he stood in at left back - looked good but got a knee injury and never played again all season. He'll be CM competition for Gilbey and Lee when he returns from injury.thewolfboy said:

He's definitely a bit kamikaze from what i've seen. I'm actually surprised he's a left back as he seems much better attacking than defending. Quality was there, whether it can return is the main question. I'd personally be worried if Purrington was inured for any length of time and he had to play every game.Chunes said:Soare put in a lovely pass/cross for Washington's second on Saturday. Agree, I think this is about the sum of what we need.AndyG said:I would be happy with a couple of premiership loans a striker and another holding midfielder. We are very reliant on Stockley and if Dobson picks up an injury I think we would be a shadow of the team we are at the moment. Knowing he is there to break up play is giving our midfield the confidence to play on the front foot.
Take a look at Jackson's favoured formation and who can called upon to play in each position:
Goalkeeper: MacGillivray, Henderson
Centre back: Pearce, Famewo, Lavelle, Inniss, Elerewe, Clare, Gunter, Purrington
Right wing back: Jaiyesimi, Leko, Blackett-Taylor, Gunter, Matthews
Left wing back: Purrington, Souare, Forster-Caskey
Holding midfielder: Dobson, Watson, Arter, Forster-Caskey
Central midfielder: Gilbey, Lee, Morgan, Clare, Forster-Caskey, Arter
Striker: Stockley, Washington, Davison, Leko, Blackett-Taylor
When you look at what is actually missing from this squad, I think it comes down to a striker that can compete with Stockley. Washington, Leko and Blackett-Taylor can't be that big target man and I think Davison is better suited as the willing runner rather than the hold up man too.
A central midfielder who can sit and hold in Dobson's absence but also has some ability with the ball driving forward would be perfect. Is there another Josh Cullen somewhere?
The only other "weak" spot there is perhaps a left sided defensive player whereas we are blessed with an embarassment of riches on the right side of defence. Someone who can fill in if Famewo gets hurt so we don't have to rely on Gunter or Purrington to play out of position.
My two outs would be: Arter and Kirk who I would've liked to be given more of a chance but he just doesn't fit this formation.
My two/three ins would be: A Cole Stockton / Joe Ironside / Dion Charles type striker to compete with Jayden, a ball winning/ball playing central midfielder in the mold of Josh Cullen and a left footed defender.0 -
Would be nice but for various reasons it’s highly unlikely. 🙁Mendonca In Asdas said:

Except apart from the excellent cross that led to 2nd goal he seemed allergic to going forward when he came on - agree he's a liability in defence.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

No clue if he'd be available now but I know he's not the main man over in Ipswich currently.0 -
What is this fixation with resigning ex-players who didn't want anything to do with us?
Taylor stitched us up royally, his refusal to play got us relegated. Why would we want him back?
Piggott apparently hates us after the way he was let go; we were allegedly interested in him in the summer but nothing got off the ground and he had no interest in speaking to us. He did not want to join us.

The point is we have a limited number of squad places we are allowed, these need to be maximized to get through periods of injuries to key players. If we want to do incoming business then there has to be outgoing. Those in my list are the ones who are easily expendable without weakening the squad. As you say yourself, Watson isn't there to play and Gunter is 7th choice. If a quality young CB came available cheaply (ie Tucker) I would have thought paying off Innis tiny salary to make room for them would make perfect sense to the club. As I said in my original post I am not expecting all of them and that would be mad, but they are the ones that fairly obviously would be easy to lose without weakening the quality.Garrymanilow said:

Yes, but you don't do that by alienating three members of the squad and booting out a popular one because he gets hurt too much for your liking. If we get a team coming in for Gunter and Tucker is available to us then great, but telling Gunter he won't play again (when with our constant injury record of course he will) is just horrible, horrible management. The damage you would do to morale would outweigh the benefit of maybe getting in one player for the ones you've tried to chuck, and as we've seen this season how the squad feels about the man in charge of them can make all the difference. The reality is we have enough players who can operate at CB that we probably won't strengthen there as long as there are no setbacks for Lavelle and Matthews before the end of January. The ideal spots to strengthen are up front and in central midfield where we really are lacking cover and game changers, and we can hopefully fill those gaps with young loanees who don't count towards the cap. If there's interest from teams who want to take Gunter off our hands then great, but it has to be handled well, not by creating a Charlton bomb squad. I do wonder if we cancel Arter's loan and get someone in to replace him as well as registering JFC whether we might just not register Watson. Seems like he's coaching and aiding with training more than anything else.Athletico Charlton said:
