  • We're in an unusual place, when compared with previous seasons, in that we still have one loan spot free, even if we do nothing else with our existing loanees. Cancel the Arter deal, and that's 2 loan spaces

Interesting that Liverpool are giving up on Gomez. Too injury prone?

We have a loan spot free, yet if Squad Registration is still in place then it will have to be an U21 loan from somewhere - Cancel the Harry Arter loan, and get a second U21 in from somewhere.

Arter's spot in the team can then go on bringing in a Senior Player on a permanent deal from somewhere.

Think it's just agent/paper talk. Klopp has actually said he doesn't want to lose him mid-season.
  • Klopp said he does not want to lose him and he will player play a part in the second half of the season. The Spanish side rumoured to be interested are Real Madrid

I can’t see him going anywhere sadly
  • Do Real Madrid actually have any money? Thought they were skint.

It seems Real get bailed out by government funding every time they run out....it's all very odd over there

Barca are meant to be skint too

And they just announced a €1.3b upgrade to the Nou Camp so god only knows

If Klopp really wants Gomez that much, why does he never play him? 14 minutes of PL action this season so far is dismal, with a year to the World Cup

They bid a fortune for Mbappe last summer so they must have some money.

Looking at it they've made over 100m profit on transfers in the past 2 summers.

Ramos left as well, so that's about 300k a week off the wage bill and this summer they have Bale, Marcelo and Isco's contracts all expiring so that's got to be another 1m a week off the wage bill as well. Those 4 combined would've been on at least 65m a year. Crazy money.

Constant injuries. He was coming back after a long time out with a knee injury, then i think he's also had groin and calf injuries this season as well.

Also Matip came in and did really well.

I don't think he's had many injuries this season, as he's been on the bench a lot and played 2 EFL Cup matches and a bit in Europe

  • Charlie Patino 18 year old who scored for Arsenal last night would be a decent loan if he was willing to come here!
  • He can join the great line of loan successes from Arsenal....Frimpong, Sanogo, Mavadidi.

On the other hand Alex Song was a great success.

Matt Smith was unlucky not to win POTY last season. Coquelin decent to be fair
  • Hold my hands up, forgot about Coquelin.

As I said in the summer.  Quality player

Barca have apparently agreed a £55m deal with Man City for Ferran Torres.

If true, where has that money come from and would City really want to let Torres go?

  • Barcelona and Real Madrid have the same accountants as Katie Price mate. There is skint and then there is skint ! 🙄

Rumours are that Torres is homesick and wants to leave, otherwise i'd be surprised that City would sell a 21 year old Spanish international so soon after buying him.

Barcelona took out a huge 500m bank loan with Goldman Sachs a few months ago, so they're probably using some of that. But also the 55m fee obviously doesn't mean they've got 55m to pay out now. Given their current mess it'll probably be something like 15m now and then 10m for the next 4 years.
  • Barcelona won't even be able to play him though unless they get rid of some players first.

"they will not be able to add Torres to their squad unless they sell some players in order to comply with La Liga financial fair play regulations."
  • Coquelin was outstanding

BBC Sport today says they are having trouble shifting Umtiti and Coutinho because they are on very good contracts and don't want to go.
  • Alright, less than a week to go.

In the words of Delia Smith

    ’Let’s be have’n you’

    Rumours. Now.

I thought the family name Now had died out? Are you sure you spelt it right?
  • Tony Watt dropped by Motherwell after reports he signed pre contract agreement with Dundee Utd
  • Any predictions?

A signing lined up for 1st January (or more likely the 4th after the weekend and bank holiday)?

Or no one signed in the first week resulting in the usual debate about getting signings lined up vs being patient to get the right players?
  • If I had to make a prediction, I reckon Arter’s loan will get terminated, and we’ll loan a forward of some sort.

I think/hope TS realises that promotion is unlikely, and maybe holds off on spending another couple of hundred grand on a mid season signing like we did last year, that unfortunately didn’t work out.

Some of you may be more optimistic than I am about putting a run together, but we’ve had a few poor performances like Plymouth & Shrewsbury.  We’d have to go like the clappers and pretty much turn in performances like we did against Ipswich & Plymouth at home every week, and I can’t see that happening unless we added substantial quality.

I think finish as high as we can without adding any more permanents who may or may not work out, get to the summer, and then let Jacko have a fresh go of it with his squad
