sam3110 said:Not Charlton related really, but Joe Gomez has to leave Liverpool now surely? Matip out with COVID and they're playing Konate alongside VVD, so he's 4th choice centre back now. He would walk into most starting XI's in Europe (providing he's fit)His last knee injury was horrific, it’s an achievement in itself that he’s managed to get back playing1

Richard J said:The way I see it now is that we need signings that are players that could contribute next season and we need to assess the players who are out of contract to see if they are worth retaining . Last January we brought in Liam Millar who clearly wouldn't sign on for this season . I wouldn't want that type of loan again .
Someone like Tom Eaves or John Marquis on loan until the end of their contract might be attractive as effectively it would be a six month trial to strikers who are proven at this level for next season .0 -
John Marquis? Isn't he a self confessed Millwall fan who's had a fair few run in's with us over the years. Not sure that's a good fit.
I have low expectations for this window based on assumed budget and availability but this season is dead so a couple of signings to bed in for next season would be great. I'll stick by Dempsey @ Gills
I saw Mandron is being linked for a move, he did really well for Crewe last season and is a big mobile unit but has completely fallen off this season and the Gills striker Olivier would be a good swap in for Stockley.0 -
Stockton of Morecombe …. Think he would be perfect to get out of league one ….

If Marquis wanted to move back to South East London and was prepared to be part of a squad I would be happy to take him.3 -

If Marquis performed well his Millwall background will soon be forgotten. If he was crap for us I agree that would mean he would get abused.0 - Sponsored links:

We have 4 midfielders who JJ doesn't trust and quite rightly. Too much wastage.
Watson
Morgan
Arter
Kirk

Don’t want us going after someone like Marquis who is too old. I’d be happy with someone like Mandron at Crewe.4
-
Unless those at the top still believe we can make the playoffs, I’d only look to sign Lee on a permanent, and then use loans to keep us safe.Go again in the summer.
No point paying nutty money in Jan if we aren’t going up or down.2 -

He had a crappy start to the season, joined too late and had the death of his dad too.
Unless he’s unhappy at Charlton he’ll come good.2 -

Combined with a solid midfield 3 and overlapping full backs that were solid in defence too, that was the basis of Nigel's team and philosophy.
The main issue is Jackson likes a 352/532 where the winger is actually a wingback, with 3 centre backs forming a solid foundation and the midfield pushing up higher in the press and in getting forward.
It's a completely different shape that needs completely different players, and where Watson and After were seen as good for the more sedate midfield in Nigel's lineup, they can't handle the high energy, high press of Jackson's tactics.
Similarly where Purrington, DJ and Leko work well in the Jackson formation, Kirk (and Blackett-Taylor to a certain extent) don't fit into it very well, but were more suited in the Adkins formations10 -
With our shortage of strikers, I wonder if it would be worth Jacko playing 433 in the Pizza Cup game, both to surprise the opposition, but also to give some of the fringe players a chance, as that's the formation which Kirk was signed to play, and it would enable us to play just one striker, if Stockley is still out.
If we're only going to play 352, then we might as well let Kirk go, as he doesn't fit the system2 -
Arsenal have made available several academy players for loan in January, football.london understands.
The likes of Folarin Balogun, Tim Akinola, Zak Swanson, James Olayinka, Ben Cottrell and Ryan Alebiosu will all be allowed to leave on loan this month.0 -
Balogun would be decent, but i suspect he'll get a championship loan.3
