    Could we bring Doughty back?
Why again the fascination of bringing back old players? He couldn't wait to get out of the club and flatly refused to sign a new contract. Why would you want any player that disrespected the club like that to come back?
Because people don't actually know that many lower league players but want to be involved in the discussion about targets, which is normal. The average poster on here knows people who used to play for us, fallen big names who used to play in the Premier League, players who did well against us in a game previously, and Scott Twine. That's it.
    And Fraser.....
Twine is the sequel to Fraser. After Fraser went to all-conquering overlords Ipswich he ceased to exist and all is now Twine. Presumably Twine will sign for Ipswich next season and we will replace him on here with another goal-scoring number 10 that we want to sign for our system that doesn't use a number 10
But we did start the season using a system with a number 10. Unfortunately, the number 10 (who was literally assigned that number) was far from good enough. I think we'd have all loved Twine, no?

£2m was the figure i was told, including transfer and loan fees and agents fees
I reckon that's pretty accurate, I'd hazard a guess the transfer fees for the 4 players we signed was around 1.3/1.4
  • Do we actually have scouts and a scouting network in place these days or are so called talented up and coming players identified by their playing stats?
Yes we do but the trouble is their based in Belgium 🙄
  • Marquis has lost his first team place at Pompey but would be better than Davison. If he scored goals we would soon forgive him for being a Millwall fan (like Doughty). He will probably return to Doncaster.

    And Makepeace…

The main issue with Marquis is that he just isn't any good.
Still an improvement on what we've got.

An improvement on Davison maybe but not an improvement on the squad overall.

Maybe so but we should be able to attract a better calibre of player.

If he's an improvement on our third choice striker how can he not be an improvement on the squad?

I think Twine would be decent in Elliot Lee's position, or in a pinch, the second striker to Stockley.

Not that any of that matters, he's not moving in this window.

A lot of people saying that we're going nowhere this year - and now is the ideal time to rebuild for next season.

They may be right, of course. But I don't believe Jacko and his coaching team are ready to surrender this season just yet - although no doubt they realise it's a tough ask. Jacko says:

“I don’t stare at the league table and think about gaps, or things like that. I think about the next game. What we need to do to try and win it. If we win enough it will take us where we want to go – if not we’ll fall short.

“We’re coming from a long way behind, aren’t we? It was always going to be a difficult task.”

We have a very decent team for this level, providing we can field our best XI every game. But if one or more key players are missing, that's when we struggle.

This transfer window, that surely is the issue that will be addressed?

But isn’t the gap (14 points) bigger than it was before JJ took over?

We're a mid table League 1 side, can we really attract a better player as back up to Stockley? I can't see us getting anyone better who is proven, best chance would be a punt which could go either way.
  • Matt Smith, Millwall, 32 out of favour and out of contract at the end of the season.

Tbf any signing can go either way.

The potential at Charlton is there to be seen and players like Stockton at Morecambe may jump at the chance to be part of it even now, as a mid table league 1 team.

If Pompey wanted to loan him to us until the end of the season so they can bring someone else then maybe but long term....na. Even loan would be a last resort from me.
  • Arter gone back, perhaps the start of some movement into the market.

    Arter returns to Forrest
Always going to happen. Heard he was our biggest wages on the book by a distance. Zero chance we were going to continue paying that much if he wasn’t being played.

  • Frees up a loan space and hopefully some wages , maybe we have someone in mind to replace him quite quickly

Got to be done. And pray that a Matt Smith comes through a PL academy between now and next January...
  •  Bye Arter. Thanks for the mem……..Oh wait!

Complete waste of time and money. Note to Thomas. Beware the busted flush.

I don’t think it was Thomas’s idea in the first place.

That's what happens when you get to transfer deadline day & panic knowing you need players in but they're arent any BECAUSE THE GOOD ONES ALL GOT SIGNED UP BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED.

So far the past year under Sandgaard has been worse than average I would say. There have been a few decent signings in Dobson, Lavelle & Clare.....a few average in DJ, Lee & Leko (last 2 are loans so will have to be replaced (yet again) in the summer).....and a few disasters in Schwartz (now left) Arter (now sent back) and Kirk (doesn't play)

From memory, wasnt Arter in contact with Grant Basey about looking for a move - that information then got passed to Steve Gallen

A decent backup to Stockley up front

And it's compulsory for us to sign a Matt Smith in January, who then moves to Doncaster in the summer, so Donnie are relying on us.

Something else to blame Basey for  :D
