For me, the only people we should be bringing in this window are players who we want to be here next year. No point in a short term loan just for this season.
Depends on who's available, Clubs will want a fee and try get the best deal they can and rightly so. Loans are cheaper, if it doesn't work out, there is nothing lost and you may get a more hungry player, not somebody who isn't in a first team squad and probably for good reason.
Genuinely concerned that we’re going to be stuck in League One for the foreseeable. There was clearly a new manager bounce, but that seems to have diminished to some extent.
We’re now looking at a large squad of averagely decent players who aren’t quite as good as we need for us to be genuine promotion contenders, a promising but inexperienced manager, and an owner who feels we have one of the best squads in League One.
Hopefully one or two signings might freshen things up, but don’t be surprised if it’s not a dramatic transformation. Of course I’d like to be proved wrong.

This sadly is my view after Saturdays poor showing and spectacle.
I just can't see us getting the profile of the squad right for a good couple of years and I absolutely hate league one football.
I've seen regulars stop going in recent years. That won't be me, but away games are a rarity for me as are home cup games. Have to say I find the whole Charlton thing gets me down far more than it should.
The hardest thing is watching old stars return on Charlton TV and you realise the chasm between those teams and today's one, where the fans laud an extremely average player as the new Pele. I cringe in my seat every time I hear it.

I honestly don't think we want or need a dramatic transformation. We are building the core of a very good side at this level, who when all fit are a match for anyone in this league. What we need are reinforcements to support that side and hopefully improve it in certain areas. We don't look like we are going up this season and we don't look like we are going down so use this time to start building and planning for next season.
Why again the fascination of bringing back old players? He couldn't wait to get out of the club and flatly refused to sign a new contract. Why would you want any player that disrespected the club like that to come back?

Because some charlton fans think some players done no wrong also goes for the manager side where you can't criticise anything a past player / manager does and you automatically want them sacked in there eyes, also you can't criticise Thomas oh no Because he saved the club !!!
TS hasn’t even spent all of the KAG sell on free yet. Not expecting anything of note this window.
We also got next to nothing up front in that sell on. West Brom are paying huddersfield over the course of his contract and as such we will get a small amount per payment. This will of course still add up to the same amount but over 5 years.
As Cafc43v3r says in league one we lose c.10 million per year before we spend a penny on transfers.
There seems to be a lot of people throwing negative and often unsubstantiated flack at TS and I am struggling to understand why.
As far as I am concerned the only thing TS has got wrong so far is changing the women's team name which feels like a big own-goal for no benefit.
In terms of the men's team he has:
Saved the club from almost certain admin and possible liquidation.
Appointed an experienced manager who had previously taken a team from League One to the Prem ( yes it didnt work out but the logic was there)
Appointed club legend as manager.
Spent the most in the division on transfers (more than even Ipswich btw)
Made progress towards academy cat 1 status (we would be the first ever league one club to attain this).
Give the guy a break please, he has been here 18 months, he will make some mistakes but he clearly wants the club to progress.

I agree with Bollox on this one, I also feel we could be in this shit division for a few years yet as I don’t see a quick fix and the quality of players we has 3 years ago are far better than the players we’ve got now.
I also get his point about seeing the old players as I find it hard to watch all the great clips from yesteryear as it’s a case of this is what you used to have.

That's not true, they've spent about 4mil
They spent 2.9 million on players, they did however sell downes and dozzell for a combined 2.5m meaning their outlay on transfers was only 400K. We have spent over 1.5m on Stockley, Kirk, Clare and Lavelle with almost nothing coming back in from sold players.
Also, do you think the loan signings we have made came free?

Because people don't actually know that many lower league players but want to be involved in the discussion about targets, which is normal. The average poster on here knows people who used to play for us, fallen big names who used to play in the Premier League, players who did well against us in a game previously, and Scott Twine. That's it.

We brought in significant sums last season between October and January, so only slightly earlier than Ipswich's sales - Dillon, Bonne, Doughty

They defo spent way more than 2.9, where are you getting that figure from? We've also sold Phillips, Doughty, Bonne and got a sell on for Grant (admittedly also bought DJ from that money).
But I'm not criticising Sandgaard, we make a substantial loss every season and I'm happy with a owner that gives a shit and wants us to improve.

Transfer market has it down as a net spend of less than 400k for Ipswich and us as a net spend of about 750k. Both figures are wrong. Our transfer business in the summer was anything but cheap. It wasn't very good, but it wasn't cheap.
I hope the club is being proactive in getting in an additional striker, and not just waiting until the end of the window, assuming we're not already planning for next season. We've got 2 winnable away games next week, lose those and the league season will be over, but they're exactly the sort of games we've struggled in.

And Fraser.....
Twine is the sequel to Fraser. After Fraser went to all-conquering overlords Ipswich he ceased to exist and all is now Twine. Presumably Twine will sign for Ipswich next season and we will replace him on here with another goal-scoring number 10 that we want to sign for our system that doesn't use a number 10

And anyone who has been within 50 miles of Exeter, regardless if its the right player, or even position.
Think fans often view their teams players as being better than they actually are both individually and collectively. For me it’s pretty clear we as a club are nowhere near having a squad I’d feel confident in saying will get promoted. The transformation needed before next season commences seems unlikely to me. I think we will need to get it right over the next two or three seasons. Not going to be easy.
A lot of people saying that we're going nowhere this year - and now is the ideal time to rebuild for next season.
They may be right, of course. But I don't believe Jacko and his coaching team are ready to surrender this season just yet - although no doubt they realise it's a tough ask. Jacko says:
“I don’t stare at the league table and think about gaps, or things like that. I think about the next game. What we need to do to try and win it. If we win enough it will take us where we want to go – if not we’ll fall short.
“We’re coming from a long way behind, aren’t we? It was always going to be a difficult task.”
We have a very decent team for this level, providing we can field our best XI every game. But if one or more key players are missing, that's when we struggle.
This transfer window, that surely is the issue that will be addressed?
Do we actually have scouts and a scouting network in place these days or are so called talented up and coming players identified by their playing stats?

Transfermarkt is missing values for Hladky, Morsy, Burns and Fraser. A couple of those likely to be their biggest signings. I presumed that is where Covered End Lad got the figure from but if it's anywhere near accurate I think my figure is close to the mark. They also make a point about loans not being free but did Ipswich not make 5 of their own loan signings? How comes we have to pay for ours but theirs are free?
I never said our transfer business was cheap. I've never accused Sandgaard of failing to spend a sufficient amount. I'm merely pointing out that we were certainly not the biggest spenders in the league. Not that it did Ipswich much good anyway, they're not bossing the league like a lot thought.

So keep posting guys. We have to get there before the 'slamming shut' happens.
