I would send my season ticket back if Taylor signed for us. But no need because there is Zero truth in this made up story. Even Sandgaard isn't that stupid to alienate half the fan base.

And if he goes to Millwall then good luck to them. He's on record saying that he wouldn't ever play for them due to the way he was treated when he was let go as a teenager.  But then we all know it's just about the money for him

    "I have unfinished business here"

That's the usual type of statement made

I'm sure Joe Piggott would say something similar if he re-signed

Football fans are fickle. Once he starts banging them in and being a shithouse to the other teams, we manage to gain promotion (this season or next) the fans will soon be back on side.

Nobody forgets, but it will slide all the while he hits 20 a season and fires us to promotion

Edit: I’d rather we didn’t sign him personally and I don’t think there’s any truth to it anyway, just stating my opinion

    Nope not true.
He could score 20 in 20 and I’ll still won’t take to him after what was done.

Who buys a winger with 2 goals and 3 assists in 28 games?!  Jesus.  It's not just our wingers then who don't pull up trees!
We’ve not had a good winger since Jerome Thomas in his first season.  There aren’t many around that are any good .
guðmundsson was absolutely class. As was Lookman

"Winger" sounds almost as dead as the dodo with the advent of wingbacks.

JBG was the inverse wide man who hasn't got much pace but could cross the ball with his right foot on occasions but obviously the cut in on to his left was favourite. Also the goal he scored against Cardiff ? at the Valley when we were 1 down was central after he won a tackle.

Lookman is a forward who can go wide but personally I wouldn't call him a winger.

Grant and Taylor the best combo we had for half a season in recent times could both play wide and central during a game which was a superb asset; Strikers with good movement.

Just being a winger won't get you many starts in teams in the top tiers of football now.

Hence why we are trying to convert both DJ and Leko but it will have mixed results as we have found because it's a a big workload.

Lavanier is an attacking right back, if Jacko is fed up with either playing wingers or Matthews as right wing back, maybe that could be an option

I'd rather he just tried Clare there or changed the formation since both right and left wing backs are integral to it and we have no one in the squad capable of playing the role he wants well. Need a Maatsen type player on both sides ideally and I'd say the left is in more need of cover.
I thought we looked better when JJ started his reign by using one attacking wing back, and one more defensively minded one. DJ and Purrington wasn’t it? We looked much more solid defensively back then.
To be fair,I dont think the defence is a problem ,we have let 4 goals in recently,One against Norwich created by a top class player, the other 3 where all goalkeeping errors.
The stats are correct, but other teams have looked like scoring more often than they did in JJ’s early days. Cheltenham could easily have scored four on Saturday.
I mean even as bad as we were, with a bit more composure Aneke's cross bar shot goes in and his looping volley too, oh and their keeper made a good save at one point. 4-4 Same result in terms of point share.
Think you’re clutching at straws there Dazz. The crossbar shot was something out of nothing, and their chances were much easier than ours. Goalkeepers are there to make good saves, and it certainly wasn’t a worldie. They created much better chances than we did, and we stole a point.
‘Bout time we had a bit of luck though! 👍
Only stat that matters is the goal share. Fortunately.

Winger is an outdated catch all, in the same way midfielder is.

I don't think we have had a "proper winger" since Mark Robson.  We have had plenty of players that have played in a similar position to him ranging from Matt Holland, to Andy Reid and Dennis Rommadel.  I don't think anyone would argue that they were similar players, in anyway, shape or form.

Some teams, including England, play with "wingers" and wing backs so they are either/or.

There are still players like Jerome Thomas about, even in the England squad.

Salah and Mane are wingers in the catch all sense.  They aren't really are they.  The laws of physics suggest there will always be wide players and labels necessary for computer games and 24 hour TV analysis has spewed a glut of new terms.  False 9s, 6s, 8 and halves, CAMs etc etc it's a simple game really.

Perhaps we should buy Doherty back .
There you go everyone, we’ve reached the point of no return.  Gary Doherty back at the age of 41 to bring back memories of the Pawel Abbott era

I am 98% sure Lyle Taylor isn’t coming back. Not with Championship interest.

This. I know people will point to the goals he scored for us but this was 2 years ago now and felt he'd only do it in The Championship with us while riding the wave of promotion which to be fair he did pre-injury.

And since going to Forest he's only scored 8 times I think, with a couple of them penalties.

For all you doubters, there is evidence that Taylor was indeed in the vicinity of McDs, Eltham:

If you look at the advert in the window, it explains why Lyle was in there.

They did under Richard Murray .. most of the signings made after Curbs left were all targets Curbs went after in the previous window ..

Screw Taylor, if he'd have bothered to play the final 9 games we more than likely would have stayed up.

I would not want us to sign Taylor under any circumstances, let alone this season when he would probably be helping us to finish 10th rather than 15th. There's no way back for him.

Each manager he has played for at "Big School" didn't or does not rate him - hence the constant bench warming role

If he'd played in the ones within his contract alone we most likely would have. We won two of them, but had he been there for Cardiff... different story

I don't think the Lyle rumour is true, but I wouldn't actually be too upset if he came back. I thought he was a prick when he actually played for us, so signing him again wouldn't change much.

As if his ego would take him back to Charlton anyway. Too much damage done.

As much as it pains me, I disagree.

What he’s done the plonker is that he took 6 months off match practice to make his dream move to forest, a team that has zero patience due to promotion ambitions and other ammunition up top.  And he’s not recovered from that, his fault IMO.

If he hung around and played another two months with us then joined a side that really needed him he’d of probably done well, he did well for us in the championship after all.
  • After seeing the video of him last week, I hope mk dons are the only team interested in him

Even removing all of the previous with Taylor I can't help but think he is the exact type of player we should not be interested in.

31 years old. Made his money so less incentive to bother. Likely his next club will be his last ever contract so once signed and secured that pay day even less incentive.

History of looking after himself above previous club.  Starting to look at his options outside of football (punditry etc).

Last time he was decent was 2 years ago.  Local lad on way to retirement = Watson.

So many reasons to avoid.  Only reason to show interest is that he was decent 2 years ago.

It would be absolutely Charlton if he did sign,  supporter base in mind numbingly boring on line jabber AND he would probably be dog dirt second time around anyway.
    Classic.

Chuks and Lyle as our front two is just a fantasy.

They would keep scoring goals and terrifying defenders. It would never work out.

Better to stay bitter and in League 1.
