Excusing my ignorance, but what are the top few reasons for school shooting in the US? I can imagine a grudge against school mates and teachers or ex school mates and teachers, but what else and why would an 18 year old, murder 4-11 year olds?
It’s not ignorance on your part at all, very few outside America can really understand this.
The sad reality is that in London, Toronto or Sydney a teenage kid with a sudden grudge can’t get a gun, it’s just not possible.
In America they sell the fucking things at the supermarket. They sell ammunition too.
You can get a gun as easy as you can get a baseball bat, the background checks are a joke.

I....I cant. These shooters aren't hard up criminals that would go any lengths to find a weapon. They're you're average Joe who has a gun in his dads wankcabinet. One moment of anger/depression/jealousy; whatever it may be, will always lead to this outcome if guns are readily available.

What nobody mentions is that any attempt to regulate guns - even with the backing of the NRA (which will, of course, never happen) would tip the country into full blown conflict. There would be thousands of mini Wacos overnight.

History is moving past the Americans, no other country in the world would accept this going on, not a single one, and yet they not only accept the gun violence they actively enable it.
America was forged in violence and over the following two hundred years has never been able to escape its violent history, people clinging to their guns like it’s still the fucking Wild West, it’s absolutely pathetic.
The whole place is fucked beyond measure, I know an American family here, former neighbours of ours (the wife is an absolute MILF but that’s for another time), who came here from suburban Kansas City, just about the dullest place imaginable, and told us that in KC they had several guns in the house “for protection.”
They have been here six years now and when I saw them last, just before Christmas, we had a laugh about how much life here in Australia has changed them, they have become completely different people, so much more relaxed, and the husband admitted that they didn’t realise how strange America was until they adjusted to life here.
The Americans love to go round the world lecturing people about human rights, how about they try enforcing the right of a fucking child to go to school without getting their head blown off by a shotgun?
As a kid, I used to always want to live in the US. I thought it was a great country with the best people ever (ok I based my opinions on TV programs I watched) but my God I am glad I never moved over there.
They seem to be the most messed up county in the world. One that puts its love of guns over the love and protection of innocent kids!
The total is 18 children dead, the shooter (killed by police), the shooter's grandmother and one teacher. All of the dead are age 8-11, apparently. The shooter is Hispanic and 18 years old. Word is that he waltzed into a gun store and bought two AR-15s on his 18th birthday. This was the 3rd to last day of school before the summer break. I wish I could say this would finally allow politicians to be elected who want to end this but in reality the GOP will probably take control of both of our Legislative branches this November. Greg Abbott, the Texas Governor and Donald Trump are set to speak at the NRA Annual Conference as soon as this week.

Absolutely correct. When America decided it would do nothing after the horrific Sandy Hook attack, it decided the massacre of young children was an acceptable tradeoff for lax gun laws.
A spokesman on Sky news has just said that in America ten times as many people under the age of 25 have died from guns than from Covid during this pandemic. Madness.
It's so bizarre and alien to me that a majority of Americans would rather put up with this as a consequence of gun ownership being legal (and easy) than just do the sensible thing and ban guns.

Sad as it is nothing can be done until guns are banned in the US. And as the gun lobby is so big over there nothing will change. Its not news any more & doesn't shock me.
If millions of US citizens openly want to own a gun & more importantly see it as a RIGHT then there is no point being shocked when some teenager decides he is going to shoot up a school.

I love the USA but it has some really messed up people with some sick views from torch marchers shouting "Jews will not replace us" in Charlottesville, trying to ban abortion, denial that trump lost, Qanon conspiracies, incels, declinism and "great" replacement theory and that all wrapped up with no gun control and serious untreated mental health issues being exploited on places like reddit and 4 and 8chan.
I went to university in the states and on my second day there was an active shooter on campus, it was the second time it had occurred in 3 years. The attitude towards guns from so many Americans is baffling. In the UK the far right and far left don't agree on much but guns being bad easily unites them

The NRA are pretty powerful and very very wealthy. It's nigh on impossible to pass gun control laws through congress. Some individual states have made a strong stance but little they can do for the rest of the country
I looked this up because I didn't know the answer... 42% of american households own at least one gun, and it's fluctuated between 47% and 37% since the 70's. It's not as if a majority of households, let alone adults, have guns. Wondering if like smoking it can be turned into a generational thing that people just go off them?

Agree with the opinions about a civil war if you tried to take away the guns; But if you don't, this carnage will carry on for ever.
It breaks my heart with the mass murder of Children and the inability of solutions to solve the wild west mentality of the right to bare arms.
