Dunblane precipitated the ban on hand guns in the UK. Obviously, the only reason to own a hand gun - as opposed to a rifle or shotgun - is that it can be concealed.

Unfortunately there are many keyboard warriors on this forum, who seemingly spend all day on here, professing to be experts on all things global politics, based solely on what they read in the Guardian or watch on the BBC or CNN.
Having said that, I noticed that tonight the BBC finally presented a truthful and balanced report on the assassination attempt. I can only assume that they've finally realised that the game's up, Trump will be the next President, and like it or not, they'll now need to start presenting the facts, truthfully and honestly.

If they couldn’t change the laws after Sandy Hook in 2012 when 20 small children were killed in a school shooting then they never will. It is consistently said by the gun lobby ‘crazy people are the problem not guns’. I spend a lot of time in the US with family and went into a big chain outdoors store in Minnesota called Bass Pro Shops and I’ve never seen so many guns on sale amongst t-shirts, fishing equipment and the like. We were picking up semi automatic weapons off a display like they were plastic toys. It is so common in many states.
I can’t stand Trump. Where my son is at college in Iowa they honestly believe he will make their lives better. Trump has one aim and that’s to help himself. First thing they could do is ban all guns apart from handguns then. So in the extremely unlikely event someone breaks into your house with the intention of killing you, you can go to the cupboard where the gun is locked away, load it and have a gun fight with the intruder.
