I know Bairstow is playing for England and I should wish him all the best.suzisausage said:successful review for NZ overturning umpire decision. Bairstow out. Stokes starts with a boundary.
But.
I just love it when he's on the wrong end of a review.4 -
Entertaining knock by Stokes, but confused why he was playing in T20 mode. We're not batting for a declaration1
-
Think him and Crawley will be nervously wandering if their test match careers are about to be interrupted.blackpool72 said:

Ben foakes with a great opportunity here. Tired bowlers and part timers new ball losing its shine and 400 on the board.1
-
Stupid stupid Stokes ….. gave his wicket away when we are still long way behind in the match he has to think of the team now not just himself

We've been rattling along at 4 an over & although I love to see attacking batting we are still 150 runs behind.
No need to try to hit every ball for 6.0 -
Yeah but imagine if he would’ve rocketed to 100, with us 50 runs behind at end of play, we’d all be calling him a genius with the game very much on.2
-
He does it too often imo, there will be enough bad balls to put away if you bat long enough. Him and Root should just have kept the score card ticking over. Plenty of value to be had for your shots and no need to force it.golfaddick said:

His job now is to support Root and protect the tail.kentaddick said:Ben foakes with a great opportunity here. Tired bowlers and part timers new ball losing its shine and 400 on the board.

Root is rattling a long with a strike rate of 83. He had to need to try and hit every ball for six.kentaddick said:Yeah but imagine if he would’ve rocketed to 100, with us 50 runs behind at end of play, we’d all be calling him a genius with the game very much on.0 -
This is the only time this test team is crying out for Buttler. Imagine him coming in on this deck against a knackered bowling attack. We’d be at 600-6 before lunch tomorrow. Well, that or 463-7 tonight.1

Fair play to England. Fully expected a typical England batting collapse today. Nice to see a bit of resilience2

Could Root be the greatest sportsman we've ever produced?
Gotta be up there.0 -
Root is definitely in my all time England 11, just counting players I've seen (live or on TV)

He's the greatest English batsman I've ever seen.
Possibly the greatest English batsman of all time by the time he retires0 -
@RonnieMoore will go down in history for his astonishingly low IQ, but you can’t call somebody stupid and not know the difference between your & you’re.Johnnysummers5 said:

The tricky thing is whether to go for consistency over a long career, or to go for players who had a really high peak, but didn't last as long e.g. Harmison. Also Vaughan was a brilliant captain, but scored a lot more runs without the job, so tempted to give it to Gooch who improved his batting as a captain!
Knott gets the gloves as I need a Kent player in the side! Underwood would come in for one of the seamers on a turning pitch.

at their absolute prime, so S jones during the 05 ashes was one of the most effective bowlers i've ever seen. But he was mostly injured in his short career.killerandflash said:

couple of great appointments imo
https://www.thecricketer.com/Topics/england/mark_alleyne_neil_killeen_join_england_staff_netherlands_series.html
if he was in this era, mark alleyne would have 100% been our white ball captain.0 -
Everyone not picking Trescothick, which is all of you, has no poetry in their soul3

too many good openers recently (ironic considering our current problems).Leuth said:Everyone not picking Trescothick, which is all of you, has no poetry in their soul0 -
This is only the case if you look at the scorecard in isolation. I think the pitch was actually decent and had plenty in it for both bat and ball. Good value for your shots but still plenty of bounce and carry for the quicks and just started to show a little spin in day 3 which suggests it'll turn more day 4 and 5. How many dropped catches have there been in this match? would have looked very different if they had been taken.Callumcafc said:Any chance of a groundsman in this country finding a good balance between bat and ball?
Feels like after all the criticism of the bowler friendly pitches following the Ashes, some have gone too far the other way and prepared roads.
Thought there might be some balance coming back after the low scoring affair at Lords but after watching some of this Test, it seems like we’re at one extreme or the other.
dont think there is much to really criticise this pitch for tbh.1 -

I'd like to see those 3 teams (at their peak) play each other! That 3rd 11 has a ridiculously short tail.
