Ironically Max was born in Belgium, so could argue that Spa is his home race - Saw yesterday that there will be 50k Dutch fans going to Austria next week - Red Bull basically have about four home races at the moment.DamoNorthStand said:

Problem with Le Mans is they can't use the 24hr track for it, and the Bugatti circuit is dull as ditchwater1

I recall going to the British Grand Prix with my dad the year before he died. He was a Ferrari man but I was a Nigel Mansell fan. I had models of some of his cars and pics of him in my room as a kid. It was a special day and great spending quality time with my father who had been diagnosed with cancer.
We were perfectly positioned to see Mansell overtake near the end and win the race. There was a mexican wave of cheering as people clocked around the track he was going to win. Hamilton is definitely the GOAT in my view but Mansell will always be my favourite driver. My dad was a Mansell fan for the day and the whole place was buzzing. It is up there with our play off victories.
As for Sunday. I think if Mercedes had given Hamilton a better pit stop he would have been ahead of Sainz on the road and would probably have won the race. That proves what a great driver the man is and whatever you think of him, you have to accept that fact or you need to look at yourself.5 -

Part of the reason we got such a good race on Sunday is because the track layout at Silverstone allows for actual passing in different parts of the track. If all that turmoil has happened at, say, Singapore then we probably would have had various cars up each other's jacksies, after the safety car, but much less overtaking.2 - Sponsored links:

Mansell picking Senna up was 91…. I ran on the track from my start line seat as an 11 year old and was standing on the edge of the pit lane as Nige drove past … nigh on close enough to high five Senna1 -

It was this one. Mansell has to come in as he lost the balance in one of his wheels and gradually pulled Piquet in and overtook near the end and we went nuts. It just wasn't on. Everybody went nuts. Mansell would have won that race in a tractor by the way. He called it people power.

Very very very confused by the stewards decision with Checo. But will be an interesting sprint race tomorrow with the pace of the Mercedes.1

Did Sky have their timings right for verstappen on that last lap? Two yellows and a green for each sector but took pole? His last sector must have been ridiculously quick but still not the fastest?0

Sector times don't mean that much right now, because of DRS and the very different ways the cars are setup. For instance I saw a map of the mini sectors in Montreal, and there was about 7 different teams on it, for instance the Alpine carried a lot of speed through the straights, Haas were great under traction out of slower corners etc etccafcpolo said:Did Sky have their timings right for verstappen on that last lap? Was very pleasantly surprised that they didn't just give him a five place grid penalty (I thought thats what he'd get) - But instead had the lap taken away, so starts where he should.cafcpolo said:

Ferrari constantly shooting themselves in the foot, Sainz and Leclerc so busy fighting each other in the opening laps, Verstappen slips off in the distance. If they worked together they'd have a chance of catching him and overtaking0

They need to rethink Sprint races if they're going to stick around - Only way they can be made exciting is if they copy the format used in F2 and F3 where its reversed grid for the first ten places.0

I'm not a fan of sprint qualifying, as the drivers have to balance the chance of making up a place or two for the grid with completely ruining your race for Sunday. Most choose the sensible option, which is why the sprints tend to be mostly non-events.2 -

Multiple reports of sexist/racist/homophobic abuse from a certain section of fans.
Not a good look.

A friend of mine is at the Red Bull Ring this weekend and said the behaviour of the Dutch is unlike anything he has ever known at a GP race. They are all totally shitfaced, and it feels more like being at a 1970s football match than a Formula One event. Tonnes of monkey noises every time Hamilton goes past….. lots of abuse for Leclerc / Sainz as well. He reckons he saw a kid and a dad in Ferrari gear have to leave a stand because they were getting stuff thrown at them by a load of Verstappen supporters. I mean - a fucking kid with his Dad?
That’s not what a race is meant to be about.
I was at Silverstone in the 80s and it was incredibly partisan towards Nige (like Lewis et al now) but not in the least abusive towards likes of Senna or Prost.

Dutch GP could be fun this year then... Hope it doesnt just get disregarded because its a fun / disco venue.
Notice that once again Red Bull arent rushing to condemn any of this - Especially as they bloody well own the track!!0 -
As a British F1 fan I used to think Monza was bad - but the Tifosi are tame in comparison. Zandvoort is the last race I would go to, and frankly my old favourite Spa seems a lot less appealing now as well.1
