Never again will I be able to say:

    Albie Morgan can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo; hopefully 🤞

Think we need to see O’Connell, Lavelle and Innis start together then next couple games to build some sort of connection. Start from the back. Three decent players for this level need to be on the same wavelength
Why would we switch to a back 3 now?
Fair enough but we were let down badly by lack of versatility last season. What I was getting at was that lack of defensive quality was mentioned yet we have the players, I’d like to see some familiarity at the back over the next couple of weeks.
The back four will be (injury/new signings aside) Clare - Inniss or Lavelle - O'Connell - SS 4 of them will play the first 75 on Saturday and again against Swansea.

Albie's strike was nice to see smash the net but he tries that too often with the ball usually blazed over. Law of averages for me rather than a cute finish. Wish I'm wrong!

    what about the other goalie?
You seemed to complain a lot when we were losing then not a peep from you since we started the comeback?

Morgan is looking good this pre season, as he did last year, let's see if he can take it in to the league this year!

Leaburn from what I have seen looks ready.. Let Davison go, and bring another forward it..

That's the issue with Morgan imo he has loads of ability which I'm sure stands out in training and in friendlies but in a game where he doesnt have alot of time to sort himself out the brain doesnt communicate with the feet quickly enough. Hopefully if we manage to play possession based football he wont be pressed so quickly and will do ok but for me if he is still here this season it should be his last chance
  • An impressive 3952 at Dartford for the Millwall game

It finished 2-0 to Millwall, but Dartford didn't make wholesale changes so had a full strength team out for the 90
I think Millwall played 2 games yesterday so their squad was split between both, so it wasn't a full strength team for them.

Don't go giving them excuses, bloody hell, they only won 2-0, after we softened up Dartford for them Saturday with a 6-1 thrashing...nuff said... B)

Garner does come over well in these interviews.

    Considered, informative, cliche light.

Not sure how he will go down with some who insist a manager has to rant and rave to show "passion" (sic) or how it will be perceived after a league defeat when he's not blaming the ref or the pitch but I like  it.
I was going to say similar.

Ever since we were linked with him and I listened to some interviews I’ve found him to be erudite, introspective and very motivated.

Its clear to me he is driven, and I believe he probably sees Charlton as a stepping stone as he progresses his career. But if he can get us out this league, and leave us with a style of play that another similar manager can come in and pick up and continue on I’ll be happy.

Anyone thinking of chipping up at Sutton on Saturday, looks like around 20 terrace tickets left, a few seats still going though
Would love to but have a date in Bath with Michael Buble.....

Agree. Very clear and knows what he wants which is being seen in the way the players have quickly picked up his style of play.

We will need to hear Ben Garner speak post match after we have conceded a goal after a blatant foul missed by referee and assistance to lose a game in the build up to a goal in a League match to Judge Ben but he seems a calm guy.

Yes agree with this, no bullshit, will be impressed if that’s how he is when under more pressure when things aren’t going well.I was going to post very similar, but would have probably inserted an emoji!!👍😂

we should have been 4-0 down by half time, our backs and goalkeeper can't successfully  play out from the back but we can score goals against a L2 second string - wonderful!

The team that started won’t be our first choice, we’ve brought in a GK and three defenders to give us players who can play out from the back.

I’d much rather let that develop than give up and go back to knocking the ball up to Stockley.

A correction to the U23 team from last night - the team sheet said Nathan Harvey was going to start as keeper, and that's what the tannoy announcer said. I've never seen any of the U23s play and didn't know any different, but now I'm home and can look at their pictures on the website, it's somewhat obvious that it was Henry Molyneux playing as keeper. He was wearing number 13, as per team sheet, so presumably a late change of some sort. The keeper who did the first few minutes of the second half wasn't on the team sheet. Hopefully there will be some sort of write-up by someone who actually knows the players rather than my knowledge-free efforts.

So, bearing in mind that I watched Henry Molyneux playing and didn't realise it wasn't Nathan Harvey(!) my impression of the game was there was a lot of good play on display, the one huge problem being they couldn't cope with an organised and experienced defence. Every attempted final ball seemed to end with a defensive header. But they stuck at it, and profited at the end as the part-time opposition started to tire. A lot of very young-looking players in the squad and a keeper from the under 18s mean it was a pretty impressive outing against decent opposition, IMHO. It was enjoyable enough that I'd be thinking about watching them occasionally if I lived locally.

I think you are being overly critical based on a pre season friendly, when the first 11 haven’t been decided. If a few games in you have to be making the same comments, they would be more valid.

Midfield consisted of Aneke, Gilbey & Morgan. That is never going to be our midfield 3 to start a game. We started with no natural full back on the pitch.

If 2 of the starting 11 start on the opening day against Accrington I would be shocked. No point being negative for no reason.

Decent interview from the new manager but will someone please buy him a clean T-shirt.

Or even better, a collared shirt and club tie.

    😂

collared shirt and a tie in 30 degree heat for a football teams pre season friendly.

It’s the football where we want a high press, not the clothing.

    Standards are dropping Grumpy.
I would like Ben Garner to wear a Bowler Hat and a Dicky bow tie that spins around.

I love Chuks, but he is a goalscorer and that's it. That's okay at our level, just tell him to run into the box at every opportunity. Don't try to play, don't try to pass, just get on the end of it and let your instinct take over.

Interesting on Chuks that Garner wants to look at him as a false 9, which he played at Dartford, puts a lot on midfielders and wingers to get beyond him and run into goal scoring positions.

And to be fair, Bowyer was really calm for the first couple of years, indeed amazingly so given his youthful reputation, until the pressure starting getting to him
