Credit to BG. Watching us in the League cup and so far the JPT this season has been delightful. To see our academy players playing so well. This is a great experience for them. We look comfortable and confident with this new Garner ball style throughout the club's structure. Could be 2 or 3 nil up at this point. Great half.

Chin has grown into the game, Ness has been outstanding at the back. Henry looks very tidy in midfield and O'Connel? the right-back has looked decent going forward. Good link-up play with JP.
  • Echo what Callum said a few pages back, but another enjoyable half of football (echoing what FA said without the constant worry).

Really interesting to see how we are set up and how we are moving the ball, very different to our league/efl cup games so far.
  • In a strange way I really enjoy watching these games. No pressure and plenty of good football.

This one is no different with some very entertaining and open football. We've played some good stuff.

And great to see more young players who look like they could make it. Really impressed with Ness and Chin; O'connor looks good; and Charlie Barker looking like the good player who made such an impressive debut a couple of years ago.

    All good stuff.

Nah, it was JFC that took it :/

JFC having a good game IMHO.  Spraying the ball around - most of the best moves going through him.
  • Great to see Campbell on the bench.
Assume Oguntayo and Toure injured as neither featured for U21s yesterday either.

  • Mandron coming on for Gillingham will be a good test for our kids.

JFC chips forward to Leaburn who does well to clamber round his man and eventually win a throw near the tunnel.
  • Oh lovely little exchange from Kanu to Payne, the latter cant get his strike away quick enough but wins a corner

49' 1-0 Jack Payne's right footed shot from just outside the box is deflected wide for a corner. #Gills

Henry plays the ball forward to Kanu on the edge of the area who lays it off to Payne, who struggles to get a shot off, which is deflected for a corner.

50' 1-0 Charlton's first corner quickly results in a second being given. Cleared at the near post. Aaron Henry's cross is headed away by Ben Reeves. #Gills

First corner blocked, Henry takes it again, and it's cleared but we get possession back again.

Chin dallies on the ball slightly, gets taken out near the D of their area by Mandron and we have a free kick.
  • Yup this looks Aaron Henry territory for a Free Kick

To be taken just beyond the D

Not the goal I foresaw, but Aaron made up for the JFC free kick.

JFC takes, keeper palms it away, Kanu and Payne combine to get the ball back to Henry who shoots from distance and scores.
    2-0

At least that one was greated with some enthusiasm from the crowd.
