Sandgaard ownership discussion 2022-3 onwards (Meeting with CAST p138)

This thread is sometimes uplifting (Bauer mendonca finals) but increasingly concerning. This is the first time I think I have been up to date with it.
I was late to sniffing out MS and ESI. Always thinking they deserved a chance etc.
However twice bitten. TS has now lost my support, my give him a chance view. I really don't like the smell of this.
I don't know what we do about it, if anything. But this isn't a fan base that sits silently by as our, our, club is damaged.
Perhaps more obvious shit has to happen. But I'm afraid the signs are it will.
What if anything do we do. There are people far better able, experienced and committed than me that can give a view, steer, hand.
I do think it is worth the conversation, early, based on our fkin awful experiences0 -
Re the energy prices - maybe Thomas will look to change Saturday kick off times to 12/12.30 so as to avoid the need for floodlights? I know it’s being considered at non-league.1

The only thing that gives me hope now is that Garner has mentioned they need 2 more windows to be truly competitive for promotion. This coupled with the fact they have stated the importance of balancing the books and the due diligence they’re obviously putting into this now makes me hope they really do have a plan in place. That’s my hope but only time will tell.TS didn’t do himself any favours when he spouted off about Champions League football in 5 years, blah blah blah. I’m hoping he’s learned from that and is reigning it in big time. But, only time will tell now.0

Maybe it will take them longer to balance the books but my hope is at least they have a plan. Obviously, balancing the books is strongly intertwined with the performances on the field.0

Wasn't it more 50/50 in the BFG winning goal final and last time I checked we are a tad nearer than Sunderland to the Stadium.
They had had a Shocking run of losing at Wembley which they only overcame last season when there were plenty of Wearsiders in London for a couple of days over the bank holiday.
Who was in the Sunderland end if not Sunderland fans. I can't remember thinking there was empty seats ?

You could say that Thomas Sandgaard is reigning it a lot as we now into the 5 year plan to get back to the Championship but by getting players only when they are out of Contract.0 -

Duchatelet over pricing of Valley & Sparrows Lane assts is still the major problem. It’s preventing Charlton from getting decent owners.Duchatelet divided the club from the assets & used crooks / chumps & charlatans to achieve that. Sandgaard was likely the best owner in the circumstances, that Charlton could have realistically received at that moment.Sandgaard saved the club but misunderstood the level of investment required even to get out of league one. A decent person but got carried away & overpromised & under delivered. It’s delusional to fill the Valley on a squad that doesn’t have the depth to sustain a realistic promotion push & a seemingly amateurish & cost cutting approaches off field that ignores decent friendly & local advice.Evidence is that he will sell off the decent youngsters to balance the losses in a not too disimilar way to Duchatelet. Doing that in League one, gets a lower return, and dismays the supporters. A football team needs to drive forward and if it doesn't have the ambition or realistic chance of promotion, then many supporters are not going to bother. Its a real pity that Cat 1 status didn't happen as this appears crucial to Sandgaards strategy. Not sure why it failed this year, surely it can be addressed ? Garner appears a good manager and I like his honesty in interviews. The football is better and it is a real pity that the squad is left light againIts a worry as to what happens to the club, when Sandgaard realises that a League One club is an expensive thing & is not getting adulation for sustaining it. We have that spectre of Duchatelet in the background, who would happily realise any profits from sale of the Valley and Sparrows Lane to claw back some of the money he misspent / wasted whilst owner. Duchatelet has put his own interests ahead of Charlton throughout his involvement. Its worrying times. The only hope is that the difficulties of the Academy getting Cat 1 status are resolved. The only hope that Sandgaard acknowledges reality and tries to get some significant other investor in but who that might be with Duchatelet holding the assets, is totally unclear.17

But people come with prior allegiances. Proximity matters but not as much as people think, otherwise Floyd Road and Harvey Gardens would be hotbeds.
Of course this means nothing if you are not an appealing option and pricing and winning football are probably key factors. Again you will know more than me as you have been there and bought the T-shirt. I do remember that when we had our recent play off adventure, quite a lot of fans of other clubs attended. I know of an Arsenal fan who really enjoyed it all and it could have been something to capitalise on.
Those people do exist, but I'm not sure there are that many and many will have been converted already. If they wanted to move to the area now may be priced out, and the majority of new housing that's been built close by isn't family housing - so there won't be reams of people coming in thinking "what shall we do with the kids this Saturday? Let's give the football a go", even if they can afford the £15 we're now charging 11/12-year-olds.
My son's wife came. Never been since. And I suspect won't go again until we are next back at Wembley!
There were many people like that there that day.
You are right with your point though, I know at least 15 people who went to Wembley that are unlucky to go to another game until we are next there.
I also think that even if we got back to the Premier League filling the ground regularly would not be a given. I don’t think watching top flight football live has the same appeal as it did around the time Charlton were last there.2 -

Callumcafc said:And sure those folks would also love a day out in the Premier League too. They start coming back regularly enough and when do they no longer classify as day trippers? That grows the fanbase, hence potential.
If we’re talking diehard CAFC fans only, I reckon you’re probably looking at 20-25,000 worldwide. Of course the rest is going to be made up by day trippers and mates coming along for a day out.0 -
Dave2l said:I used to support the players and the club.
Now, I support just the club itself. The players come and go. The revolving door of sparrows Lane peaked when the Belgian had a lust to insert his unwanted waffle.
"Back in my day" (early 00s) the players had relatable personalities. Playing football was not just a job for them. They were living their dream and it was clear they had an appreciation for it.
There was at least some form of genuine loyalty and care!0 -

When we had some budget from RD we signed Cullen and Bielek on loan.
When we had crooks for owners/were on an embargo we didn't ......
Have a guess what changed. It wasn't SG's negotiation skills!11
