Surely the American player didn’t mean that?
Think he meant the trick, but maybe not to score

That’s a dagger to the heart for the States
  • FFS... I can write the NY Times headline for them.

"What was the State of that"

They gave us a few scares didn't they?
  • I have an irrational hatred for the Dutch and it’s impossible to support the US, so wanted both teams to lose that one.

My main takeaway from that is watching football at 8am with a hangover and a 3 year old running around is inhumane.

They weren’t awful in the middle and defensive third but they had real problems causing scares for the Dutch.

They played their best game of the tournament against England. Unfortunately they couldn’t get themselves back up to that same level today.

I thought that was down to us rather than them, but hey that's just like, my opinion, man

Next game is the last of the tournament at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

    This deserves a double lol.

I would always consider them to be my second team being that I have family in Australia and I had a fantastic year there when I was young.

For 15  years now though I've been married to an Argentinian. Normally I genuinely support Argentina with her. This evening is going to be difficult.

Don't mind the Aussie football team, just can't stand the cricket team. Hope they whoop the Argies (they won't)

    England couldn't score against them.
Last 16 for the US of A isn't too shabby.

Look mate, I will be cheering on the Aussies but Argentina v Netherlands will be a quality Quarter final.

Argentina will very likely win the game but this world Cup is already an upset mountain.

Will there be more of the same

Another Messi wankfest. When will you stop this, BBC?
(I know it's his 1000th game but then why was there a MWF for the other games we've had so far?)

Aussies 8/1 with bob's lot. I regard this as ungenerous

  • Fair play to the Aussies, Federation Square in Melbourne (you might have seen clips of celebrations there during the tournament) has been packed out since 5am to watch the game on the big screen there. Kick off is 6am local time.

They have to talk about Messi cos they are a one man team. Rest of their side is weak apart from a promising Alvarez.

Enzo Fernandez is a quality player too. I don't think he'll be at Benfica for very long.
