Maybe they could try attending a few league games instead?
We don't need another clown in charge.
It's not hard to do a bit of due diligence if you're serious. They could watch the Stockport game on ITV4 and come to a league match.
I don't want another owner in charge who is clueless about L1 football.
It would suggest they were serious if PV was bigging up their attendance at a league fixture rather than a fairly pointless fixture against Brighton.
The whole thing sounds a bit tinpot in my opinion.

I would hope any potential owner would just watch a video of the play off final if they want to see our potential.
Any intelligent potential owner doesn't make a decision based from a few extra thousand in a ground during a game while the club is at their lowest point in years.
1 There are 14,000 Charlton fans & 6,000 Brighton fans, making a 20,000 crowd and great atmosphere.
2 There are 6,000 Charlton fans & 6,000 Brighton fans.
The Brighton fans out sing Charlton all match & it is largely a great embarrassment to Charlton.
Edit - obviously I don't mean a potential owner is so thick they would buy us solely because of this.
I mean if they have done plenty of research and are keen, but have nagging doubts whether the support has been totally lost or can return very quickly, from let's be honest the @6,000 or so of us that turn up every game.0 -

If there is a potential buyer/investor (it can only be Middle Eastern or USA) who could make a difference at this club would need to be backed by a load of money…This club needs a completely new outfit including a hat. TS must know about this person(?) with initial discussions already taken place and agreed for PV to make his announcement. Otherwise TS will look rather stupid should the new messiah arrive and steals his ego.1

It is to demonstrate that right now, Charlton are still a "biggish" club and can still attract @15,000 home fans in L1. Even though we are 17th and in one of the lowest positions for 100 years.
It is an up to date "show" that we still have good potential if there is a decent game to watch.
You go round there a few times at different times

This isn’t complicated. It’s easier for a potential owner to understand what things could be like by experiencing a packed Valley than looking at old videos or spreadsheets.
If you think the experience plays no part in such decisions you are misunderstanding why most people get involved in football.I don’t see what the downside is. Most of us would prefer to be in a bigger crowd with a better atmosphere.81 -

This is still a site for Charlton supporters isn't it?7

I'm sensing abject humiliation in a valley full of BHAFC fans on a jolly, followed by a load of toxic anger, but I'm looking forward to having pre and post match drink with fellow Addicks.0

He thought we were staying away purely because we had a distant owner that had been neglecting us for years. I believe he thought if he showed up more than Roland and appeared to do and say the right things we'd all come flooding back. But that wasn't the case. And it's far more deep rooted than that.
Our league status is a huge factor amongst other things. Years of erosion and missed opportunity have been slowly nailing the coffin lid
I fear that we are sending this potential suitor down the same path. If they think circa 20,000 are going to turn up week after week once they've unrooted Sandgaard then they will be in for a shock.
Getting those sorts of numbers week after week is going to take a lot of time, graft and even more cash. I just hope they are fully aware of that?
I'd much rather someone take us on for what we currently are and harness it and propel us forward.3 -

Anyone who takes us on is only going to be doing so on potential. Ok it is a big job and will cost some money , but we need someone who is to turn dreams into reality.3 -
What potential buyers? There is nothing to suggest as such. I don't get it. Maybe Varney is just a Charlton fan wishing to see a good crowd at The Valley for a change. There has been no rumour of new buyers at all that I've seen. Fans desperation I'm guessing.6

I’m not saying follow Peter like sheep but just think of the success we had whilst he was at the helm and his love for the Club and realise that anything he says or does will be to help the Club move forward positively. If he thinks a big crowd against Brighton will somehow help then I’m happy to embrace that in turn hope that helps move the Club forward.27 -

If we’re looking to push a sale over the line with the atmosphere we create that may explain the wanky owners we’ve had over the last dozen or so years8

I'd much rather someone take us on for what we currently are and harness it and propel us forward.
I boycotted and protested against Roland, including going over to Belgium.
When Roland agreed to sell I returned for the game after ESI (version 1) took over. I remember those chants of "We're f***ing rich".
It soon became clear that things weren't so rosy and as they quickly unravelled I again refused to go.
The shenanigans that followed looked to be destined to run the club into the ground and I was grateful when TS managed to buy the club. He talked big -Asked what his objectives for Charlton were, he replied: “Three to five years, Premier League, then less than ten years that we are solid, at least mid table.
“And in 15 years I want to make sure this club is one of the best clubs and always playing European football. That is my goal.”
Like most fans I took what he said with a pinch of salt, but I did at least expect him to move us forward, get us out of the 3rd division and try to push for promotion to the Premier League. Covid didn't help the situation but, in the great scheme of things, didn't stop TS from pushing for the goals that he had set. What got in his way was his ego and his decision making.
I have not returned to The Valley since covid because of TS. His treatment of non-playing staff has confirmed to me that my reasons for boycotting again were valid.
I had absolutely no intention of going to some "meaningless" cup tie against Brighton just before Xmas but, if Peter Varney suggests that it might be a good idea to turn up then that's a good enough reason for me to go. All I've got to do now is convince my son that going is a good idea, as it just happens to be on his 19th birthday and he'll just be back from uni!
