Will we make the playoffs?

Just a little too much. To average 2.05 points per match for the rest of the season would be a tough ask for a good team (if you did it over a whole season you’d end up on 94 points), for a team that were awful but have been decent for three matches it’s too little too late.
After genuinely fearing we’d be in a relegation fight (which we might not win), I’m just looking forward to some drama free, mid-table mediocrity. Who knows, once we know we’re safe from either relegation or promotion we might use it as a head start to begin planning for next season whilst some of our rivals for promotion in 23/24 are still concentrating on this season.3 -
Book your seats for Wembley, it’s
coming home.1 -
We have 34 points from 26 games.After 26 games in past seasons we had:
- 30 points in 21/22 -> 59 points from 46 games
- 40 points in 20/21 -> 74 points from 46 games
- 46 points in 18/19 -> 88 points from 46 games
- 40 points in 17/18 -> 71 points from 46 games
- 36 points in 16/17 -> 60 points from 46 games
The expectation from our current position should be to get somewhere in the neighbourhood of 60-70 points.
But a couple of extra wins here and there above expectation could push us into the playoff mix.
Such a shame to have dropped points to stupid mistakes against Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers etc.1 -
We are not making the playoffs! We have a decent 15 or 16 players and still unbalanced.But it's better than it has been and there is some hope for the future.
However next season we'll have some foundations in AMB, Ness, Egbo, Dobbo, Fraser, CBT, Leaburn, Kanu to build on. Hopefully!2 -
I doubt it. Yes it’s possible but I just think we’ve not done enough over the first half of the season. Will take a top two run of form and I don’t see us having that in us. For me eighth would be a real livener for next season.1

No and when you look what getting an half decent manager in and playing players in the right position can do, makes me more angry that we've wasted another season10
-
Yes! mark my words! The angry ginger bloke has something about him, getting us playing high press counter attacking football and defenders throwing themselves at every ball that comes into the box.
Already booked my flights for the Playoff final!

No, but on the plus side Carlisle are in the play-off spots in League 2 and not far off 3rd, so that may be a good omen for next season.

If we get promoted this season, I’m buying Callum’s first season ticket when/if he returns to these shores .
2% play offs
70% 7th-12th
28% 13th-20th4 -

20 games left.
Is it wrong to think we could get 60 points from them?
Sod being realistic.2 -
No - too many journeymen in our squad.0

I think it's probably easier to ask will the top six continue in their current form, or should I say the teams outside the top two. Charlton would need to average eleven points from every five games, which means at least three wins in every five games, to be sure of a playoff place. In the block of five games which includes todays game, we gained a total of ten points, that block of games featured the defeat at Oxford, a draw at home to Peterborough and wins at Pompey and home to Lincoln and Barnsley. One plus for Charlton, is the run in for the last five games, where only Ipswich away could be considered tough, with a possible twelve points up for grabs.
So the question, is it do-able, yes but it still depends on other teams in the top six not pushing on, Charlton producing something like the form they produced when Adkins first arrived and the owners not selling our young players while adding a couple more to the squad.1 -

I think we could, if we get a fair wind on the injury front. But I think that has been true the last two years. So we probably won't. Saying that...
The worst possible thing would be getting close to, or getting in, the play offs and not going up.
The recruitment has been shambolic and its a happy coincidence, not great planning, that has given us a chance. My fear is that close but no cigar would vindicate that approach and we would see a repeat.

No chance but if we can win a few and entertain along the way it will be better than the first half of the season. The top 6 are too far ahead and too good. I don't see them changing.0

We've won every league match this year. If we keep this up, we'll be several points clear at the top of the Championship at Christmas. It's in our hands.11

Need another 41-43 points.
20 games to go
Need to win 13 & draw 2 or 3
Means losing just 4 or 5 more
Not happening.
But we will stay up.
Away - Peterborough, Exeter, Forest green, Derby, Plymouth, Cambridge, Bristol R, Ipswich, MK Dons, Cheltenham.
Bold i've put as games we'd need to win to have a chance. That would be 13 wins. Pick up a couple of draws from the other 6 games then you never know.
It's tough with very little margin for error and deep down we probably all know it's unlikely but we've seen what can happen when teams get on a second half of the season roll.1 -

If we were 6 points behind 6th and in 7th spot then we’d have a chance but too much in between us and 6th so too many variables needed to fall our way for that to happen3
-
Why not?All this talk of too many teams above us. I find it hard to believe that after our season so far we are actually having this debate…
However, this proves how poor the rest of the division is! Barnsley are in 6th and have lost their last three games, without scoring in any of them!1 -
It is going to be incredibly difficult but it is possible. It is definitely possible. To do it, you need a team that can go on a run and to go on a run you need to be able to score goals, even when teams park the bus which we haven't tested recently but I suspect we will have improved in that area.0

To make the playoffs in this league it's all about having a strong second half of the season
It's starting to look like we are now strong contenders to do just thatso IMO yes Wembley here we come0 -
Maybe. A lot of teams fall away at this level. We just need to make sure we don't.0
-
Of course we COULD but as a betting man I wouldn't be betting on us.New manager bounceTerrible PompeyAwful LincolnBarnsley who had just lost 3-0 back to backI just can't see itTop half yesTop 8 at a push2

Every game against the teams above us becomes a cup final.0

I asked Bob the Builder if we could get into the play-offs and he said ‘Yes, we can’ 🙄🤔1
-
No. We’ve won only 2 away matches this season. Would probably have to win 5 or 6 away games until end of the season.
Home form is fine. Away record is the problem.1
