I've heard of some excuses for a defeat but I have to say that this is one of the more unique ones from Nathan Jones!

“To me the 10 men was to our detriment because it made it a free hit for them in terms of stuff,”

“It added more pressure on us and it shouldn’t be like that – we should then control the game."

If, as a Manager, you cannot galvanise your side to beat the opposition that then has 10 men for 70 minutes (when you are winning too) and then have to use that as an excuse, you shouldn't be that surprised if you are shown the door the very next day.

Charlton have never been good at playing against 10 men, we have very rarely been able to take advantage of this.
Agreed. But how many times have we lost from a winning position when going down to 10? And how many times has the Manager then used the fact that we have had to play against 10 men to lose from that position?

It is deflection but the fact is that Jones might just be suited to managing a smaller club in a position or where there is less expectation - he has a winning percentage of 47% at Luton and as opposed to a combined percentage of 21% at Stoke/Southampton.

    Southampton sack N Jones
Despite a valiant attempt by Southampton and Jones, Charlton continue to head the table for shortest tenure for a Prem Manager. There is much disappointment in Southampton as they did have Les Reed the record holder on their books as Director of Football for sometime and it is believed he had left a blue print for achieving this status.

Of course, Southampton didn't play for 38 days so Jones probably would have been second to the one and only Les Reed but for the World Cup.
  • I have always felt that Les Read was  caretaker manager. I cant remember what was said at the time but seeing as he was part of the setup, was already in the building & didn't need to be recruited its harsh to say that he was a permanent manager. We were always going to bring in someone long term & as soon as Pardew was available it was obvious where we would go.
  • Colin is back!

No not that one, Warnock to Stoke.  A penny for them @bobmunro?

Oh I obviously read it wrong his first game is against Stoke!
  • Stoke themselves are struggling. Only 5 points above the drop, while also only being 12 points below the playoff places!

  • The rest of the bottom clubs should be pretty worried as that's almost certainly going to mean Huddersfield staying up then.

When will Tony Pulis get a call?
  • Can Colin Wanker do it again?
Seems to be able to get the best out of players.
  • Potter's job must be on the line. We all know it would be stupid to sack 2 managers in a season but Chelsea's current form must mean Potters days are numbered.

I'd be very happy if he was our manager for the start of next season.

Motherwell expect to appoint a new manager this week, with Grant McCann, Ian Holloway and caretaker boss Stuart Kettlewell the last three contenders.

What a contrasting set of options!
  • Queens Park Rangers have sacked manager Neil Critchley after just 12 games in charge at Loftus Road.

They become the fourth Championship club to make a second managerial change this season after Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town.

I wonder what percentage of clubs who employ 3 managers in a season go down? We were relegated both times we went down that path...

Would like to see Ollie back as a manager! What a character he is. His post game interviews have turned up some gems over the years.  :p

Neil Critchley sacked after 12 games into a 3 and a half year contract at QPR !

Without knowing the personal details of his contract, what type of compensation can Critchley expect to get ?

Anyone ITK on the legalities of football contracts ?

Read somewhere a while back that the average wage for a manager in the Championship was about £800k, but suspect QPR wouldn't be at the top end.

And I don't think it's as simple as getting the rest of the contract paid up, more a "mutual agreement" figure that means they get a lump sum but can get another job?

I read on here recently that the contract would be paid until he found another job.  No idea if thats true but would make sense.
  • Ainsworth of Wycombe is fav for QPR again he was fav last two times and never got it

I think that can happen, or both parties can reach a compromise - from the club's point of view it stops manager sitting at home just getting paid in full for the next X years and not bothering with another job, but also the manager can move on and start looking etc.

  • Just seen on Social Media that David Moyes has left West Ham. Even though they have had a terrible season from the last but quite surprised about this one.!

Take that back it was a post I read from 4 years on his first appointment. I won’t inform you Lifers anymore in the future. 😉
Doesn't feel like it's far off though, he's fast working through any credit from the last couple of years.
