The Conservatives, who have closed off legal routes and know full well that this policy will fail. It’s all to deflect accountability and distract from the terrible state of the country on just about everything on their watch. All for a cynical ploy to save their policital skins from a deserved electoral hiding.
Braverman’s blatant lies about the legal position on the asylum bill, including that her “army of lawyers” say it “might be legal”, are so serious and so extreme that she should be disbarred. She is welcome to sue me for libel and I will happily see her in court.
No of course not, but there are people who can't see that.1 -

Very strange watching brief highlights without commentary. Like watching YouTube clips0
-
If this had commentary then it would be the ideal format for MOTD.There’s no need for it to be an hour and a half to cover 5-6 games each Saturday, and about 4 replays for every incident. If people are that desperate to seek out specialist analysis about Wolves or Southampton then they can.
And it saves literally millions in TV license money.6 -
Well I thought it was pretty good.
First time I've watched MOTD in years!
Sack the lot of them and give the sizeable income to charity.9 -
Agreed. A bit of commentary with no punditry and it’s a worth watching.0
-
That was the best Match of the Day since the start of the premier league.0

When did it come a thing that you have to hate those with differing views to you? Not sure how society has evolved in such a way over the last 20-odd years, but it feels the rule nowadays rather than the exception.
No idea how some can hate Lineker. Even if you don’t agree with his non-football views, or think his clear compassion for others is hypocritical simply because he happens to be rich, I just don’t get how some can get so wound up by him.61 -
Britain became divided after Brexit AFKA. In 2016 Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered by Thomas Mair, those two acts have left our society in a very bad place. My own view is that the wounds need to be healed and in any sane society that would be the case but due to their disastrous tenancy since 2019, the Conservative government need a bogey man to blame and the asylum seekers are the bogeyman.19

Braverman’s blatant lies about the legal position on the asylum bill, including that her “army of lawyers” say it “might be legal”, are so serious and so extreme that she should be disbarred. She is welcome to sue me for libel and I will happily see her in court. You are not really paying attention to the illegal migrant policy only to the headline. That's what the government want you to focus on. There are only a few places in Rwanda and it is a hugely expensive and impractical solution. There are insufficient and no suitable accommodation for refugees that would be locked up. The government are not working through the 160,000 backlog of applications that would ensure those that can contribute can work and those that don't meet the criteria are returned. There is no right to return to the country that the refugees arrived from. There is no joined up co operation with the French to tackle criminal gangs. The policy will not work. Its just a dog whistle headline to make it look like the government is doing something. The refugees are being misrepresened as illegal when 70% would be accepted as refugees if assessed. UK takes far lower amounts of refugees than majority of other European countries. The reason why the country is in such a state, your bills are so high, the economy is in such a state, there are insufficient houses being built, lack of affordable housing, extorniate rents with no check on the condition of those properties is largely down to this Conservative government. The sewage in the sea and rivers. It is not due to the refugees coming in on boats. The hard right conservatives are trying to fool people, misdirect and distract from their complete ineptness, denseness and lack of any sense in their policies. This disgrace of a government deserve the electoral wipe out that's coming their way.4 -

In Motty’s immortal words “this is turning into something of a rout”. They showed the table with Charlton on top of the Premier League, and Citeh bottom.Shocking loss of perspective😉30

The fact that a fair proportion of people either don't give a flying fuck what a self appointed mouthpiece like Lineker has to say, or disagree or agree with him is just normal human behaviour. It is all just oxygen for those who earn a living stirring the pot, generating febrile news mulch and serving their own political agenda on both sides.
It's all fucking nonsense.11 -

Attenborough has left the conversations. The BBC said that episode was never going to air anyway. Is that us being gas lit? I struggle to understand that term.0 -
LenGlover said:Those comparing Lord Alan Sugar with Lineker should remember that Lord Sugar is a member of the House of Lords, part of the legislature of this country, sitting I believe on the Labour benches.
His role there probably trumps his part as Big Boss on a BBC reality programme.
He has sat as a crossbencher since 2017 - so he does not sit on the Labour benches.
https://members.parliament.uk/member/3897/career
As for him having an important role, he last spoke in the Lords four-and-a-half years ago.
https://members.parliament.uk/member/3897/contributions
So he's not taking his legislative duties particularly seriously.
Plenty of time for social media, though, where he promotes his BBC series and has rows with people.
Which is where we came into this...

With apologies to @kentaddick and others who have direct family links to the holocaust. I would like to make this point and am in no way suggesting Linekar’s comments related directly to that greatest of atrocities
i have studied that chapter in history extensively with a professional interest working in forensic psychiatry, with a view to wanting to understand how so many people participated in such a horrific act. I have read numerous texts on the subject and have traveled throughout Europe visiting the death camps where these crimes were perpetrated. But without doubt the most shocking thing for me is not what I read or saw, but was when my eldest daughter was twelve she was taught about it at school. She has autism and a learning disability alongside other considerable medical issues. She said to me ‘dad if I was around when the Nazis were in Germany they would have killed me’.
I nearly cried because she was right.
It is not correct to suggest that our current government have acted anywhere near like the Nazis, but it is also dangerous to not allow them to be challenged when they drift towards that path. The opportunities to stop totalitarian regimes only exist at the start of those regimes24 -

I will however say that if Mr Lineker knew anything about the rise of Hitler and his mob he wouldn't make the comparison. He owes an apology not to the government but to the memory of all those who suffered at the hands of the Third Reich.
If you think the language of our Government resembles Mein Kampf well....I cant really explain that to you.
Your analogy is as much nonsense as suggesting a Corbyn vctory in the 2019 election would have resulted in Gulags up north and the purging of the Milliband brothers..

Strange as on 'Have I got news for you' and when ever Frankie Boyle opens his mouth they seem to bash the Tories; easy target as the cabinet are so right wing and they have a "let them eat cake" mentality.
I think Gary lineker was looking to leave as so many of his colleagues at the BBC have done in recent years: Andrew Marr, Emily Maitlis, Dan Walker etc.
Gary is trying to force a transfer despite the fact his legs have gone.
Does Aunty have balls or have they scored an own goal ?2 -
Well I quite enjoyed MOTD last night.
It's a bit like when Border Force officers went on strike recently and the army stepped in and did a better job.
Extend it to 30 minutes, put a clock in the corner so we know what stage of the game it is, and have the occasional statistic pop up in a box and you have a winning formula.
Public service broadcasting at its best.

That probably sounds overly dramatic to a lot of people but I would be one of those polluting the "Master Race" of actual Nazis due to disability and I'm sure lots of other posters on here would either be on that list or know friends or loved ones who would be.
I'd remind everyone to look up the words of Martin Niemoller. Swap "communist" for "immigrant" or "asylum seeker" and frankly it is not very comfortable at all.7 -

I did watch MOTD and didn't miss the post match prattle, not one little bit. It was odd without the commentary and the chanting could have been amplified, but the biggest miss for me was the theme tune.0 -
Makes you wonder why people bother watching it if they are that bothered with punditry and post match thoughts. It’s like the record button or YouTube never existed.
I also find it weird people say they hate Gary Lineker???? Really? Why does he wind people up so much? Don’t watch him if you don’t like him ffs.
I don’t like Piers Morgan but I’m not watching TalkTV so he can wind me up some more and then whang on about it on social media….oh hang on….😂
People are so precious these days.5 -
If only there was a way to skip the punditry segments of match of the day.3

MOTD reminded me of the game being played on Championship Manager.2

It's not just MOTD (and Football League highlights) that has benefitted from this, but virtually every other programme as well.
If anyone watches The Chase, winding through the bit where the contestants are asked their opinion is a lifesaver. "I think you could get the 25 thousand, but we'd really want you back here, so I'd stick with the 6" ad nauseam.1 -
