Charlton Life is too miserable

Guys
There is far too much negativity on this forum. Yep granted we’ve had a poor season and we don’t like being in the 3rd division.
The takeover thread in particular is like reading one long suicide note No one likes Spiegel, no one likes Sandgaard, no one likes Methven, No one likes their plans , no one liked Southall ( understandably) no one liked Duchatelet, no one liked the Spivs, no one ended up liking Richard Murray ……………the list is endless.
But, we have a proper football team to support. It was great fun today, it was great fun against Shrewsbury, it was the greatest fun at Old Trafford
Moan, moan , moan about not renewing season tickets - for heavens sake whoever owns the club and pays the bills needs every bit of financial support they can get from us. I’m sure quite a few of the people on here who moan about season ticket prices etc have probably never had one.
All of the junior teams from the U12’s upwards have loads of excellent players, particularly at U16 and U18 level. The U18’s recently beat Liverpool U18’s 8-0. We had Campbell, AshleyMB, Morgan, Mitchell, Leaburn on the pitch today with Kanu on the bench with Ness injured, Barker, Chin and Elewere are all playing well in the Conference and there are loads more coming through.
We can be very optimistIc about the talent coming through
Ultimately, I know its very important to all of us … but its not life or death its just football and we can all be glad and happy that we have Charlton Athletic
Next year I will be renewing for my 40th year and I bloody hope I get a few more yet. .
Cheer Up and have a lovely summer !!!

Well said aa.
There was a good atmosphere today and a reasonable crowd, even if there were plenty of comps.
You need to bear in mind that a substantial amount of CL posters don't actually go to that many games.4 -
There’s a reason why I stayed off here for 7 month, it’s bad for the soul, take a break, it’ll do you good7

I stopped posting here because it was repetitive, and I stopped giving a shit. I lost wider interest in football when I stopped playing about 12 years ago, and the last five years have snuffed out any interest I had in Charlton.
I think the negativity is reflective of the state of society and football as a whole, and Charlton in particular. It'd take a lot to convince me that it was worth my time going again (living in Lancashire I've got four or five games local to me depending on what division we're in) - nobody at the club gives a shit about it, it's slowly being gutted in front of us and I have a strong suspicion that we won't exist in five years' time.
Not sure how you take the negativity out if the club with everything that's gone on (and continues to go on)?13 -
It has been great seeing the academy players moving into the first team this year, a real highlight. Charltontv had a few interviews after the game, with RS TC and LN. Really good to see them enjoying their football, and I hope RS positive experience opens the door for other loans next season. I feel sure the talent of the youngsters with some intelligent signings of more mature players will see us push into the playoffs at least next season 🤞

You missed out Ipswich. It was great fun at Ipswich.alburyaddick said:Guys

Cambridge was great fun1

I enjoyed the game today and am trying to not focus on the off field shenanigans as there’s nowt I can do about it, especially after trying hard previously. We stayed and clapped the players, some are okay some aren’t that great but apart from a couple of bad apples they've given their best, sadly that wasn’t good enough. I live in hope. Life really is too short.0

This season was memorable for only three games, Man Utd away and Ipswich and Shrewsbury at home. Can’t see why I’m not allowed to be miserable on the back of that.2

I had a great day today, thoroughly enjoyable. If Im in a mood where I don’t want to read negative posts the. I just scroll past them and don’t really take them in. Your get the full spectrum of views on here and that will only change if people stop sharing their thoughts if they are worried about going against what they perceive as the opposing consensus.
Keep post your positive views @alburyaddick14 -
Charlton Life is bloody great the majority of the time and massively enriches my experience of being a fan of a community club that shares ideas and promotes debate.
Our club is in a negative state, hence why a lot of conversation may not be the most optimistic.
But in depressing times on the field, this is one place that will always give me a good belly laugh to help lighten the mood.9 -

It’s the worst footballing period in our history by miles
next season will be 10th in 15 in the third tier
in the previous 74 years we had 4 in the third tier
our nearest rivals are palace who will be in their 11th top flight season on the spin their best ever run of top flight football
and the scum are knocking on the play off door to the top flight and will be in their 12th season in 14 in the second tier of English football , their best ever run of second tier
yep how can anyone be negative our u12s just won 33-0 the women won 17-0 and my local park team who wear red won 14-0
To me it’s how our first team do that matters most , everything else is fluff …
and of course family friends and real life mean more than any of this shit
but if we’re ever going to be negative , I genuinely believe this is the time , we’re a joke27 -
It's been another brilliant and successful season in league 1. Thank you Thomas and staff.7

I think its as Positive or as Negative you want it to be in some ways on here.
There is always going to be a bit of misery when things dont go right, no doubt there was more positivity when things have gone well e.g. Wembley '19
Its probably safer and calmer to detach when reading the comments you find a bit negative on here.
I used to get into too many arguments, probably still do, which wouldnt have been good for me or anyone on here - But have learnt a lot this season to think twice before rising to a comment, now I'll often just laugh and shake my head when reading something I dont agree with... Then move on to reading whatever the next idiot has to say

Easy enough to pick and choose threads I think.
Avoid the ones about Charlton is my tip.14 -

Roland Duchatalet killed a lot of my love for not just us but football. The reality of where we are, in reality in the football hierarchy is one thing but that horrible fucker sacking Powell, selling our two best players and not only that. Sitting down with a camera crew and telling us this is how is was going to be and that was nearly 10 years ago now. I can handle us being shit, because we are, the playing staff don't give me any faith they are anything but flat track bullies coupled with a load of shit in my non charlton life over the last few years have knocked my appetite for fun out of me.
That said, I like this site, if something isn't for me I ignore it and engage with the other stuff. The non-football threads are still a lot of fun, @Ketman love life and @Leroy Ambrose frankly disgusting sexual exploits give me nothing but joy

@Leroy Ambrose good to see your name on here, hope you are well mate

Last home games usually produce exceptional goals. So going off thread @AFKABartram is spot on, had a great day. So let's think about our favourite last game of the season at The Valley goal. Me, a Bob Curtis pen 48 years ago, my first game ever. But the ultimate can't decide. Yann v Poolies or SCP v Coventry0

I think people have a natural disposition when it comes to a positive/negative approach in life and this is echoed in how we support the team.
the hardest part for me is that in all my years following us, we were building toward something. I started watching in 88. Alright I was 6, but the memories stick in my mind of the team Lennie Lawrence built and the constant fight to stay in the top division.
After that, it was getting back to the valley and Curbs getting us to and keeping us in the Premier League. Seemed like we always had forward momentum. Even when we went down, I’d had 15 years of a stable, well run club building something, so probably naively, thought things would be good again soon. Then when had Powell, I thought we’re back to building. Ever since he got the boot and RD came in, save for the miracle of getting Bowyer and that team of 18/19, we’ve not got any forward momentum or a building toward anything.
So now, like Oohaah, it does my head in and I am unfortunately for those of a sunnier disposition, very negative about all things CAFC. It’s not good, as it spills into my posts on here if I see a positive post about the team etc. that 6-0 win over Shrewsbury was a great example. I have to be honest, I hated it. I hated the way it validated what I see as a pathetic bunch of players who get a result like that and all of a sudden we’re back in the land of smiles. I don’t enjoy the comms stuff after we get some crappy win against Burton. I get wound up by the cliched photos of all these bang average footballers coming off the coach for an away game and inspecting the pitch with their headphones on.Even today, had I been there, I’d have been getting wound up at a ‘lap of honour’, even if it’s to thank us. No thanks needed, just win more games. You might read this and think, just do one if that’s how you feel, but it’s never that easy. I have tried. I didn’t like the team in the 20/21 season, even on that run under Adkins and finishing 7th. I recall getting excited after beating Plymouth 6-0, thinking, maybe this is okay. The same last season when we beat Ipswich 2-0 at home in the night. I thought, maybe it was just Adkins and this lot are okay.
but we’re not, and it wears you down. For those that remain positive, good on you, but for me this is becoming a bit like death from 1000 cuts, and it feels like there are those on here, that are like ‘it’s not so bad’ or ‘a win’s a win’
It’s football, it’s opinions, there’s no right or wrong way to view it, I’ve just got no love for this team/club at the moment, and can’t see it changing anytime soon. I’ll still go though, because it’s all I’ve ever known18 -

What I liked about today was seeing Maynard-Brewer, Terrell Thomas, Albie Morgan, Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell start the match, and Aaron Henry and Zach Mitchell join in later.
With those players pitching-in one way or another we got three points.
That's a decent amount of positivity, if you think about it, what we witnessed today was something of the essence of the kind of club we are, but especially a club (at the moment) with a bit of hope for the future.4 -
Do you have a date for the Court case between Methven and Sandgaard?seth plum said:What I liked about today was seeing Maynard-Brewer, Terrell Thomas, Albie Morgan, Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell start the match, and Aaron Henry and Zach Mitchell join in later.
