  • Not a new film. But...
...I watched both Inception and The Prestige after reading rave write ups for both on here (my younger daughter tells me her favourite film ever is Inception). But I keep seeing that Chridtopher Nolan made an even better film called Memento. Anyone seen it, and is it as good as the rumours say it is?
    Memento is really good mate.

It is. But concentrate, it messes with your head.
  • Like most Nolan films, Memento is better the second time you watch it
  • Knights of the Zodiac - When Anime/Manga transfers averagely to the big screen. It tries. My life it tries.

Seems to be attempting to try to set up a franchise. Will need to do more to get people on board. 5/10

Seconded. Not sure it will suffer a bit if you have seen his subsequent, more polished films, first

I remember the DVD having an added extra where you could watch it in order.

I liked memento a lot. But Interstellar on a re-watch is terrible - very bloated film with pointless characters that contribute little.

I've watched all of Nolan's feature length films over the years and Interstellar is one of the only two that I didn't understand what was happening especially towards the end and didn't bother figuring it out either - the other one is Tenet.
tenet is awful, only film i've ever seriously thought about leaving 30 minutes into the film.
  • Finally caught the recent Guardians of the Galaxy 3 film. I liked it a lot - it wasn't quite as funny as the previous two, and some of the Rocket backstory were downright painful, but I thought it was a great film. Sadly it would appear that the current Guardians team is being disbanded and any new films will feature new characters. Shame, but they wre a great trilogy.
    STARLORD WILL RETURN

At the end, suggests maybe they will need Peter to come back.

  • Saw Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, probably the third best TF film after the 1986 animated film and the first Bayverse movie.

If you like football then the Peter Crouch film on Prime is worth a watch.
  • Interstellar is a flawed film but I could watch it on repeat. Some of the sequences in that film are utterly stupendous.

FFS Don't go near Run, Rabbit, Run !!!!!

Avoid like the plague...or maybe that should be myksomatosis !
  • Don't worry darling - Sky/ Firestick - Psyhco thriller
It started promising, but became a bit predictable and drawn out. Personally felt it was too long and tailed away at the end, lots of good actors and still worth a watch but could have been better if it was cut down a bit.
    6/10
  • Loved the new Indiana Jones. Brilliantly cast and clever writing to make Phoebe Waller Bridge almost the action star, while embracing that Ford/Jones is an old man.
Loads of nods to the first three films too.
    9/10

    Limbo
Watched this on channel 4 streaming. Film about a group of asylum seekers who've been located to a small, bleak scottish island. It's a slow-paced film, in part to reflect the experience of the refugees while they await the outcome of their applications. There are some very funny moments, especially in the cultural awareness classes, but it isn't really a comedy.  It focuses on a small group of single men, a syrian musician, an Afghan freddie mercury fan and two africans, one of whom dreams of playing for Chelsea.
It's bleakly atmospheric and you come to care about these people while their time ticks slowly away. Not for everyone but I really enjoyed it.

I looked it up on IMDB and saw that it stars my new favourite actress Sarah Snook who is absolutely brilliant in Succession. Well, guess I'll just give it a miss.🤣
Interested to see if Snook Hmm she… yeah. Ok. Can’t seem to finish. Yeah. Pause. Whisper. Talkreallyfastwithnobreaksbut… still can’t. Finish. A sent… uh yeah. Hmm. In all performances massive upward inflection? Croaky running out of breath? Yeah.

Just watched Extraction 2 on Netflix.

Not bad, more of a beer and popcorn Saturday night movie that goes at a pace which is bloody exhausting for the first hour. Not an academy award winner but okay.
Just watched it. Pile of shite.

Some of the action scenes were impressive, but they went on for so long in the end I didn't really care if the "good guys" died or not.

And how many times can one man get shot, stabbed, blown up, be involved in car crashes, train crashes and still walk away. Yeah, yeah, I know that's just how this type of film is meant to be but it's just exhausting and overall a pretty poor film.

    How so?

It was a generic comment. People were getting shot, stabbed, blown up, etc multiple times and just carrying on like it was a scratch.

Bit touchy this morning, Offy !

SO sorry - should have put a smiley face .
  • If it turned out that Extraction II was produced entirely by AI I would not be surprised. It is almost 100% derivative.

Ever since John Wick we're seeing more and more movies driven by the stunt co-ordinators. I knew before I looked that this one would have been directed by a former stunts guy. They're good visual storytellers, but they're not much cop when it comes to adding anything new to a story. Just something new to stunts.

And the stunts are amazing, even better than most of us will realise (they'll do a stunt breakdown on Corridor Crew and it will be hugely impressive) but the script is designed purely to drive more fights and action. And it's almost entirely built on tropes and cliches from a million other films. There's no effort to do anything remotely interesting with the plot or any of the characters. The bad guy's son is the best example of this, while the bad guy himself is driven by such a simple idea that it doesn't jive with what he gives up to achieve his goal.

As Mr Grumpy said above, the amount of bullets and knives some people take in that film is so stupid that I think it just comes down to laziness. It's lazy to say "well it's an action movie, deal with it!" when it's just not necessary to paint the story into a corner like that.

It's entertaining and very competently produced but I did get bored and watch it in three sittings.
  • I thought the opening act of Indy 5 was excellent. I am not enamoured with where they put the character, but that's okay. The prelude sequence and the call to action were all very good. Some of it is a bit forgettable, which is unusual for an Indy movie, and I wasn't a fan of the final sequence but based on the reviews and the fact that it's bombing at the box office I was expecting a lot worse. It's way, way better than Crystal Skull at least! I mostly thought it was strange that they didn't build on Indy's retirement or age a great deal. It's referenced a bit but I thought they would embrace his age a lot more which makes it feel a bit hollow. It was a chance to put a seal on the franchise and I don't think they took it.  3/6

  • Got round to seeing Asteroid City last night and thought it was pretty poor IMO, I generally quite like Wes Anderson films but don't love them but this one was just a bit too much for me.

Probably didn't help that we watched Isle of Dogs on Saturday night which I hadn't seen before and I absolutely loved that. Think it's my favourite of all of his films now
  • Just back from seeing Indiana Jones.
So glad I made the effort to go & see it at the cinema (40mins away).
It had everything you want from a Jones film with lovely nods to previous adventures.
The ending got me right in the heart.

    Wonderful 🥰
I agree. Went to see it last Sat with my youngest daughter. We both found it very entertaining and it never lagged at all. I thought ending was great.
