It's not a case of discounting evidence, or being surprised, or not willing to ask the questions. The vast majority of us are just normal fans, we have zero control over the ownerships of the club, or how it's run. The means when new owners come in we really only have 2 choices, be positive and hope for the best, or walk away.
The third option is accept it's going to be a shit and waste or time and money suffering week after week, an unhealthy and masochistic choice.
That being the case most of us choose to hope for the best and continue to support the club season after season. I don't think anybody has the right to judge us for that, not to be surprised when we don't want to hear an unending list of negatives. We've made our choice, we don't need the choice questioned over and over again.
Think majority of us have some relative scepticism about any new owners but like it or not, they need to be given a chance before a witch hunt starts.
Think you'll find there's nothing unique about that my friend...🤷♂️18 -
Success I'd say is midtable/top half championship whilst still producing academy talent most seasons.
Hopefully Holden gets the backing to build a squad to get out of League 1 first though.1 -

You said fifth time lucky - well maybe (but we don't know) it might have to be sixth, seventh or eighth time lucky. The fact that the previous four have been a nightmare doesn't predicate with any certainly that the fifth one will go the same way.33 -

Why should he? He’s got a view like everyone else, I’m sure he’d be delighted to be wrong and this group makes a success where others have failed. The desire for positivity is puzzling to me, what will change exactly because Airman starts dancing from the rooftops?
I say this from a position of muted positivity, happy to give these guys a go in the absence of anyone else anyway!10 -
@Airman Brown it seems, to me, that whomever came in to buy the club, currently wouldn't get your support. However, despite what's been muted in the past, I never heard there was a string of suitors queuing up and ready to pounce!
SE7 have followed up their January bid and 7 months later have finally bought the club despite TS jerking them around!
Yes, we had PV hinting he had someone, we had A Barclay sniffing around, then there was Speigal, but none of them carried through! Either blaming TS for not following through or
that they wanted the property as well, which they were not going to pay for, and I don't blame them at the stupid price RD is asking for!
So something had to give, we were going backwards under TS, going into administration under Southall and ESI, RD we all know about and The Spivs run out of cash!
I don't know, anymore than you do what the future holds with SE7, but we seem to have a good manager on board, recruitment so far has been better than many a year, it looks as though the SMT has some English League football experience and the investors have money and what sounds like a sensible plan.
We are now entering a new era, how good/successful will it be? Who knows! However let's give them a chance to show what they can do and what they're about.
It's time to all show some patience, give them breathing space and then evaluate.

Success is getting out and not coming straight back to this poxy league that we've been living in.4

I'm very skeptical about the long term from these new owners also. Like Airman Brown, I can't see how it works for them, but short term it's looking good as they're clearly ready to invest for this season and who knows, maybe the next. I also worry what happens when they realise its not stacking up financially.
I felt much more positive when Sandgaard took over because he seemed to be willing to spend money for his passion of football, not for a return. And look how that turned out.
I guess just enjoy having a season where we might compete.0 -
The OS says "which may take a number of days". Why can't they just give a clear date like next Friday?

Maybe the hope lies in the two years.
It might be in the two years breathing space we have (if the EFL are to be trusted) a particularly rich person, in or out of the consortium, will build a credible liking and affinity for Charlton Athletic, especially if it is quite an exciting couple of years like Wrexham have just had.
So it might have to be some kind of footballing seduction over twenty four months.

Could be wrong but thought I read either on this thread or the closed down one that one of the investors was a well known Charlton fan is this true and if so does anyone know who it is0

A club like Charlton is a money pit. We've twice been promoted from L1 in the last decade so I think we know what it takes - some money, a good manager and the right sort of players including a good striker (or two) and then a bit more more money plus some luck.
I'm encouraged by what I've seen so far - Alfie May and Panutche Camara have come in saying the right things about the direction of the club, but then all new signings say these things. We've persuaded Michael Hector to stay and several good Academy players have signed on who apparently were being looked at by other clubs. While these things happened under TS's regime he will have consulted SE7 Partners who we'll assume have nodded these signings through. They'll be paying the bills after all.
So we'll have to hope that the new owners are going to carry on investing in the Academy and buy in some more players to plug the gaps in our squad.
These people look like they are proper businessmen not fools like Southall for example - they surely know there's no money to be made in L1 and not that much either in the Championship. Why are billionaires getting involved in a L1 football club unless they have ambitions to get us promoted and then presumably into the Premiership where they real money is?
We have no real assets - the stadium and training ground are under different ownership and I doubt that the Net Asset Value of the players is worth more than a fraction of the price they are paying for the club.
Like all of us I'm sceptical about Charlie Methven's involvement and I instinctively distrust Old Etonians for their sense of entitlement, with people of that personality type often their front is often considerably wider than their depth but |I'm encouraged by Prague Addick's interview. I think he learnt a few hard lessons at Sunderland, can he let the management team do their job without interference though?
We shall see how it works out - as always Actions > Words.
If nothing else we are due a break.

You see the more I read posts from Airman, the more I dismiss it. Sorry but it just comes across as bitter old man angry at everything.
I get it, I really do, you know more than almost everyone on here about the plight our club has been through, and the huge amount of work put in to get us back to our home and The Valley Party doesn't go away, and I'd like to think is appreciated by all connected to our great club, but at the same time it's starting to look like you have a vendetta against. ANY new group of people coming in.
Riddle me this, if this lot weren't here and PV and his backers took over.... What would be different? Wouldn't they have to try and find a bottomless pit of money and spend "£100m" too? What makes you so sure that they would be successful in that? I look forward to your answers, and until then, paint you as an angry old man clouded by the mists of the past33 -

The last however many years has been a "journey" to say the least. From marches in Europe, flying pigs, sofa's, boardroom occupancies, trips to Manchester, Crooks, Dentists and a rather looney (but good intentioned imo) Danish/American has led us to where we are now.
I have no idea how this is going to pan out but from what I can see in terms of signings, intentions etc things look alot better. Maybe it will turn to ash maybe it wont but one thing is for certain there isnt some knight in shinning armor so its a case of ofcourse be sceptical but atleast give them a chance2 -
