drawnablank said:Wow! Having not been on here all day I’ve come on and I see it’s all gone a bit hysterical.
There is a shortlist, those that are on the shortlist have been approached to see if they want to be considered, those that don’t want to be considered have said no, those that do..have said yes.
Rather than being insulting, an ex England and Premier League academy coach wouldn’t necessarily want a full time League One position, would think about an Interim basis given his links and after considering, decide against. That can easily look worse than it is!Those that say yes, we’ll know nothing about until the last yes remains standing. Those that say no and we find out about, if held in a high regard, says a fair bit about what we’re actually trying to do!Do you know how many ‘yes’s’ there are? When do you think they’ll be a decision?I assume Powell has ruled himself out for a permanent appointment as well. But if not and we want someone who will have an almost omnipotent ability to unite the fan base, and inspire and care for the players, he’s your man.Otherwise Nathan Jones would be my choice.0 -
That Wembley video. Take me back. Donny away in the playoffs too was… bancin.10

Cowley's or Appleton would be underwhelming but feel like the sort of level we are likely to get.12

Emma Hayes anyone?8

Quel surprise Rodney.

I'm getting messages from Sunderland people I spoke to this year. Even they cannot believe it is unravelling so fast.3

I was very sad to see Holden go.
Perhaps I'm old fashioned but I still can't get my head round how managers can be judged in less than a year in the job however that seems to be the way nowadays. He certainly threw himself into the role and came across as a really decent bloke, results have been shocking this season however who knows how things would have gone if he'd had time to turn things round.
As with countless managers before him I think he deserves substantial mitigation given the constant circus that seems to surround our club on a permanent basis.
As for the next appointment, I'd be thrilled if it was Bowyer although cant see it happening.
The promotion season was the most enjoyable time as a fan for some years (There's been very little competition). I was gutted to see him go and none of the appointments since have done any better, although granted they all have plenty of mitigation.
Things didn't end well but there's a huge amount of re-writing history going on with fans saying he got 'lucky' with the players at his disposal. Lots of managers have decent squads and don't get promoted, every season there's about 10-12 teams you could argue have squads capable of promotion.
The fact is if you win promotion you've earnt it on merit and that team played some really good football that season. I certainly don't remember seeing that standard of play matched since he left so he was clearly a decent coach (Or clever enough to appoint decent coaches). I know some point out the later parts of Lee's time didn't go so well but was any of the football on offer even then any worse than what we have seen the last couple of seasons? Because what I've seen has largely been dross.
I know the 'I improve players' line got trotted out a lot by Lee, but the facts are that he did just that. We have a lot of players in our squad at the moment who on paper should be capable league one players who for whatever reason just aren't delivering.
He had a fantastic record of bringing players through the academy as well which again would come in handy given we appear to be relying on a number of youth players this season barring any significant movement in the transfer window.
All that said I don't see it happening. From the names I've seen suggested I think Darren Moore would be a really good shout. Always came across very articulate and already proven he can get a team out of this division. Not seen his name mentioned but Dave Challinor plays a very attractive brand of football and is a promotion specialist (Albeit at a lower level). Stockport seem very well run and very well backed financially so whether he would actually come is another question.
I'm normally glass half-full with all things Charlton but like many fans recent events have led to some real disillusionment with how things are going and I just can't shake the feeling the next appointment will be really underwhelming. Really hoping to be proved wrong.

It looks as if the incoming players will not be good enough to really lift our level, so the speed at which key injured players return will be more important than who we sign over the next few days.
It looks very doubtful we will get a really good manager, but like you, I hope I am wrong. Whoever comes in needs support, but it is really hard to support our club with the shit ownership at the helm.

Please not Mark Bonner. Anyone but Mark Bonner. If it’s Mark Bonner that’s me done.I don’t know who Mark Bonner is, but he’s the only contender who hasn’t had that said about him yet and I don’t want him to feel left out.72

A clamour for Bowyer and even considering Cowley or a return for Robinson makes me wonder if we deserve what we’re getting at the moment.
I know expectations are set to low, but really?!8 -

Bowyer is not the answer.
As to the next manager i would not welcome Cowley since his last match in charge at Portsmouth was Holden's second in charge of us and we know the result. It wouldnt be an improvement. I suspect that Holden had an idea that Saturday was his last match and it is possible that he did not pick the squad, did not want to do a pre match interview, but did what he could to rectify the situation at half time.
Darren Moore would be my preference but is unlikely to be the preference of CM, EW or JR. It could be a Bowyer return, but I fear for a worse outcome and there are plenty worse options than Bowyer that this management team are likely to go for on the bàsis of saving a few quid.

If we appoint Leam Richardson I hope it turns out that Leam is pronounced Leem.7
-
Danny Cowley going favourite is a bit random. Wasn’t he in for the Sunderland job when CM was there?Decent PPG at Portsmouth as well which surprised me.0
-
Have to remember Holden came out of nowhere so wouldn’t be surprised if that happens this time too. Those markets just seem to be the same names recycled4
-
Actually wouldn’t mind the Cowley brothers, they were my first choice going way back to when Bowyer left4
