Which pretty much describes what we’ve become.Question...who would be an inspiring and realistic choice of manager?

He was on the EFL podcast yesterday, and seemed to be enjoying his time away. He will go to a championship club.2 -
either someone’s put a big lump on or something’s happening

With all these 'failed managers' being mentioned, I'd rather go with Pearce and see how it works out.8

I wonder if Jon Brady from Northampton Town will be considered.
Overcame a mass of injury woes to still gain automatic promotion from L2 last season.
Has the legendary Colin Calderwood as his assistant manager, ready to bring in and sort out the defence.0 -
I’m not sure how we can compare a managers success at one club and lack of it at another, without knowing the parameters in place, which will clearly dictate their ability to do the job in the way they may wish.
We only have to look at the manager success rate or lack of at Charlton to know this.
Being a successful manager or player at one club is no guarantee it’ll be the same at another.
I’m not encouraged by any of the potential candidates being mentioned so far, but sadly that’s the pond we’re fishing in at the moment and I don’t necessarily think it reflects the owners remit, just the reality of not chucking money at the problem and others not wanting to join an ailing club residing in Groundhog Day.2 - Sponsored links:

At least he'll sort out the long throw problem : - )
Would be surprised by this one, if it happens, as Stockport seem a well run club with serious backing from a committed owner but I guess we're still a bigger club.
Also, always seen him as a northern lad.
But an interview is not the same as an appointment.

If he doesn’t come to us, not sure I’d be too happy as a Stockport fan seeing that my manager was looking elsewhere!2

J BLOCK said:Played football with a lad who works at a football league club yesterday. Reckoned Appleton was one of the best managers he had worked with and is convinced that given the right backing he would be a success at any club. Also said CBT had been offered to his current club this week, didn't know whether it was by Charlton or his agent.
I hope this is just his agent speculating.7 -

I am not supporting Cowley here but I don't understand how he can be considered on the way down. Does that mean he has forgotten what he knew a couple of years ago? In theory a good manager would learn from mistakes and ought to become a better manager, but I suspect those managers fail due to other factors, sometimes beyond their control. Maybe they are the right managers at the wrong club. And maybe we are the wrong club for most managers because we have crap owners. Bowyer seemed to gain success when the owner couldn't give a toss and let him get on with it. Maybe that is our ideal ownership. Ones that don't interfere.5

Challinor is a similar career path to Ian Evatt who has done brilliantly at Bolton. Done very well at National League and League 2 level, a manager on the up. If he’s been interviewed then I’d assume he’s interested and ok with moving down south19

Challinor is very much a 3-5-2 man. I don’t have a problem with it but I’m sure some will0

We constantly chop and change managers, coaches, and usually sign players because they're cheap and available not because they fit a formation or plan.13 -
