Martin Pringle, such a unorthodox playing style. Didn't he get loaned out to Grimbsy with Andy Todd after Toddy gave Deano a right hook?1
-
As this is now the Martin Pringle thread, I once was on the same Ryanair flight as him! Gothenburg to Stansted, back in 2001.

MickeyBennett said:Why did Charlie Methven and his silly mates even bother going to the trouble of buying the club? It seems like they have no intention of serious investment or any coherent strategic plan.
Starting to think that Methven has a kink for sharing fake transfer rumours/other assorted bullshit with gormless Charlton fans.
It's the only explanation at this point.5 -

Back then all Prem players were given a McDonald's "Gold",.i.e for free, Card.
Real special moment as our eyes met.8 -

Pringle is now a manager, if we offer him the job he’ll have his revenge on Challinor.2
-
I'll never forget Pringle's home debut. He was playing a blinder & I turned to my dad as a 14 year old boy & said:
"If we had 11 pringles we'd have a good side"
My dad replied "If we had 11 pringles we'd have a packet of crisps"
It was a shit joke, but it bought a smile to my face. The sort of Dad comment I would now say to my own son50 -
Is it time to puff out our chests and boastfully claim that we haven’t (as of yet) been turned down by the Stockport manager, proud times17

How many levels of shambles are there?
And...
Shit! There's more aren't there?3 -

With all due respect if you're willing to be interviewed then you're foot is half way out the door from wherever you were/are anyway.
I am personally happy that the Stockport Manager turned us down. All the names that have been mentioned like Appleton, Cowley, Johnson have done better than him and then some.
What now concerns me is why are they saying no? We are offering it on a short term basis, are we offering a low salary, are we saying we don't have money for signings etc.
I don't see it as an insult getting rejected by a manager from a lower league, bigger clubs than us have been rejected by managers, it happens. More so want to know what is being said that is allegedly putting these candidates off
So I'm just asking if that is the case I wonder if it's because we are offering poor wages, a short term contract or lack of control over transfers etc. If of course we have been turned down29 -
One of the Swedish Addicks, who is in touch with Pringle nowadays reminded me that Challinor's then manager Carlton Palmer described it as a "horrendous" tackle, and fined him two weeks wages.
"Horrendous" is actually a pretty good word to describe the state we are in. Here's Pringle's Wiki for the benefit of the apparent 80% who have never heard of him. It was actually during the Grimsby loan spell that Challinor did him. Broke his leg in two places. We registered him for the following season but he never fully recovered and retired in November 2002. Here is Challinor's Wiki. A very impressive long managerial spell at , er, AFC Fylde, cannot be ignored.
It's almost surreal that we are even talking about this no-mark pub team player/manager.16 -
I'll hazard a guess. They're cutting the playing budget and expecting play-off performance.6

Regardless of how there may be some right crap in this team, a competent manager should be able to out-compete at least 17 of the shite clubs in this division & get top 6.I’m not accepting the squad is not good enough as an excuse, it’s such a red herring. These players are not coached correctly & regardless of what Holden said, there was no identity being built, no clear style, you can see that from his incoherent team selections.Garner was pants in the end but at least you could see a distinct style of play.Whoever they bring in needs to have a clear and concise idea of how they want to play & stick to it. Like Russell Martin said, have a plan A & don’t worry about b,c,d etc. just make plan A better.

Scott and Rodwell have quite a good chance of earning an honest wage for an honest day's work. A decent one at that.
Lenagan isn't on skid row and Warick is a bit of a wild card.
Considering it took them over six months to get the deal done I really can't see what the quick pay day is. TBH I can't even see what the pay day is.6 -

Its almost like a "no mark" that has been successful in the 4 divisions below us has no chance of stepping up a league.
I suspect he will manage in league 1, one way or another, before we get out of it.
That pub team player played in a League Cup final, have you? Has your "pub team", because if he was a pub team player you support a pub team, ever even been in a league Cup final?

Isn't it fine if you don't want Challinor to be our manager because of that tackle, and also fine if you don't mind him being our manager? Neither seem like outrageous points of view to me9

Opportunity cost though? Are "we" paying Scott more than someone else would?
Don't they only get a serious payout if we get to the premiership? Or at least established championship. They can't make " proper" money by being shit in league 1 can they?0 -
I'd take Cowley over Appleton but getting the feeling it'll be Appleton. It's just all so meh2

It's almost surreal that we are even talking about this no-mark pub team player/manager.The manager did not fine him after all. In his whole career he only ever got one red - for a handball, and that was rescinded.
I didn’t see the tackle, but it would seem to me that his discipline record would suggest that he was not trying to break the leg of a fellow professional.
He also has a first degree as a physiotherapist. Again, does not suggest a Neanderthal.Just adding a bit of balance. As I say, I didn’t see it.5 -

I realise you said a few days ago that maybe they told the "big 3" that money wasn't needed to be spent but clearly it does. Are the yanks that far removed from it all that they.....
1) dont realise we have no manager
2) dont realise that we are 3 or 4 good players short of a decent team, and making us half way to being top 6 needs money being spent.
With ESI we could all see it for what it was once Nimer went public......but this ???
I just don't have a clue what the intention is. And the major "players" are proper football people with reputations. Scott & Rodwell sren't mugs.2 -
