He was looking after Appleton.

Where has this myth that Maynard brewer is a "great shot stopper" come from? I see it all the time. He has the 17th best save % in the whole league at 66.1%. The top 10 are all over 70% and can probably actually communicate with their defence a whole lot better.
And for the hardcore stat fans he is also 21st in the list of goals prevented with -3.8 goals prevented which basically means he has conceded 3.8 more goals than would be expected against the shots he has faced.
He needs an upgrade because right now he is one of the worst keepers in the league. Isted might not be the answer but he needs to come back in.9 -

I personally think AMB is a better all round goalkeeper than Isted currently but he clearly has some deficiencies and a lack of confidence currently. I don't see either of them being good enough next season if we are serious about promotion.
It's very hard to think that Isted can do any worse at this point, sadly.1 -
Got some last minute tickets for Reading. Buzzing for it now!2

Re-Isted, I can't recall AMB putting in a performance like Isted did at Shrewsbury away or his peformance at Wembley for Barsnley. He's also held in high regards by a fair few Barnsley fans.
I don't think it's a case of making out Isted to have been amazing when he played for us, it's more so for me, could it get any worse than AMB.
I'd roll the dice on Isted and give him a run of games, especially seeing as AMB just got another injury it seems.16 -

Dillon Phillips was a great shot stopper that wasn’t great at everything else. AMB is an average (at best) shot stopper that is poor at everything else0 -

AMB is a keeper for a team in a relegation dog fight. No where near good enough for where we want or need to be as a team.0

Think I’d stick with AMB. Isted looks like he’s got a howler in him. He’s a little goalie and I always think he’ll get bullied. We defo don’t need any meek performances on Sat. Plus he’s just come back from a long lay off.0

I think the club and comms team have read the room.
Just get on with the job. Talk has become very cheap.19 -

It’s all the other parts of his game that worry me - he’s quiet, his distribution is sooooo slow, he is not particularly great at coming for crosses, he has a tendency to punch the ball back into danger areas.
To be honest I’m not sure Istead is the answer, though I think he is certainly worth a go. At this level I’d want to have a big physical beast who can command his areai'd take him just for another Phillips inspired Twist and shout at the end of next season alone. I think AMB's biggest default problem is his lack of communication. His distribution is also very slow but for me its the talking, or lack of a bollocking for his defenders when they do make mistakes. I sit not to far from the goal and i've never heard him. That for me is a massive factor of any good defensive unit. Isted isnt the answer, just re-watch the games he started and the goals conceded. Not dissimilar to AMB.

Intrigued by the X post a couple of pages back stating that Curtis is now "Assistant Head Coach"...assistant to who, or is he now Assistant Manager (Head Coach) to Jones, wording is just a big vague...or it could be me of course...🤷♂️

I think AMB critics need to realise he is playing behind a dodgy defence. Almost every game one of the defenders makes a diabolical mistake and the opposition take advantage and score. No wonder he is lacking confidence.
Lets hope NJ sorts this out.5 -

Does anybody know if Nathan Jones was at Dartford yesterday evening watching the U21’s play against Wolves?0

When is his interview out?0

In truth no-one person was to blame, there was a very distinct bobble that took the ball away from Phillips's foot...nothing he could do...just a very unlikely fluke, and the only way Sunderland were gonna get on the scoresheet...🙄1 - Sponsored links:

alburyaddick said:I am a bit mystified by the whole drop AMB stuff. Apart from the cock up at Blackpool which he got away with and the dodgy punch against Derby, I cant think of any glaring errors and he was absolutely fantastic at Port Vale - who had 34 !!! shots on goal.
When I've seen Isted , he actually looks awful to me ? - he seemed to let everything in !
I'm not saying Istead is the answer, as I too wasn't that impressed with him (although he did seem to improve in the last couple of matches he played).
I don't expect Ward to be the answer, as I see him as emergency cover. I've been saying for most of this season that we desperately need a solid No1 and it's something that we must address in the summer as a priority.4 -

He's been in charge for 49 hours, and the club said it would be early this week, and it's still early this week2

Tbh, I’d take never hearing from him again if it kept us up.
I can just listen to my mate Rodri, as he sounds exactly like him, talking to me about his dogs………..’they love it hear they do’. 🤗🤣🤣🤣2 -
I’m sure we’ll all hear from him soon…0

To weigh in on the keeper debate. My feeling is that AMB is probably overall marginally the better keeper and has the higher ceiling. However, some areas of his game still need significant work and his commanding of his area and the defence is a really issue right now. His confidence looks shot so we need to get him out the firing line. Istead comes in for the immediate term.
I would go and get Phillips back in the summer. He's not play him much so if we offer him the number 1 and sell him the Jones led Journey I think we will come. One of AMB/Istead as back up will be fine.1 -
